So, to clarify on the title of this thread, I am wanting to build a peasant cube based around easily playing 3 coloured decks and I am just curious how heavily costed cards should be in my cube. I know for sure that I should't be including cards like Ember Hauler and Wolfir Avenger, as they are too heavily costed in one specific color for 2 and 3 drops, but how heavily costed should the 4+ costed cards be?

@inscho: After some thought maybe I can make aggro work without it overwhelming everything else. I think that I will, for example, be including cards like the blade cycle from Alara Reborn (Like Jund Hackblade), which work with both hybrid 1-drops like Rakdos Cackler and the Apocalypse Sanctuaries.

@palingensia: I am somewhat thinking this myself, and I am thinking that I will just let each colour do what it does best and allow the colours to just meld naturally. I also plan to let each colour be easily splashed for by making sure that not many, if any, cards require more than one of the same colour of mana to cast. While I still plan on having "3-coloured" cards, they don't necessarily need all 3 colours at once to be useful and can be easily splashed for (Like Thornscape Battlemage and Dega Disciple).

Wow, thanks for the advice! First off, I am wanting 3 colour decks to be the main focus of the cube. I have been kicking around several cube ideas for a while now, but this seems to always be the one I keep coming back to. I have considered making an exception to the peasant rule for the rare dual lands, but if I were to I would most likely proxy them as I consider myself to be on a budget and they would just be too costly. I have also considered making my own tri-colour lands, like you are suggesting, and since this is my own cube I don't see why not.

Another exception that I am considering making is to allow for each of Invasion/Planar Chaos dragons to be included. They could each serve as a potential bomb that encourages players to commit to a certain trio of colours. Yet another exception I may make is to allow for the Volvers from Apocalypse to be included. Their easily splashable off-colour kickers, like the Planeshift battlemages, allow people to still play them without having excellent mana fixing.

Beyond that I may take your advice and shift the environment away from aggro and more towards mid-range and control. I may also try to keep the overall power level lower than your average cube to allow for the honestly weaker 3-colour cards to have some greater viability in drafts.

So, I am wanting to start a peasant cube that allows for 3 colour decks to be viable. While I do know that to make this possible I should be including both a decent amount of mana fixing and easily splashable cards, I am unsure of what the archetypes could actually be for this. My main goal here is to find at least one relatively strong archetype for each 3 colour combination, and if possible I would like for there to be some crossover between archetypes with similar colours. If somebody could give me some viable ideas I would really appreciate it.
