Maro doesn't consider hybrid mana cards as multicolor so there might be a chance still though I dont think it will happen.

It is a long running joke that every character Maro loves is killed by creative right after Maro says it, and even if he doesn't have say in creative he is the go to magic spokesmen and all these decisions where made months if not years ago so we can generally trust him when he tells us something.

i'd like to know how exatcly sarkhan will be able to travel 1000 years back, and after that i also want to know why then urza didn't travel back in time to kill yawgmoth when he was a kid
that's the problem with time travel: it solves problems easily. so easily that you start to ask yourself: why other characters didn't use that?

You do realize Urza tried something similar right It was the entire reason he built Karn.

The bodies of powerful planes arn't exactly common and it has been heavily implied that this is Ugin's plan not Sarkhn the old dragon who at the time was a pre-mending walker with all the god like powers that implies turned his body into a time nexus. Nothing about time travel in magic has ever been shown to be the easy way to fix problems.

But I suppose all our walkers (cept Karn) so far are mammals... Oh well...
    Kiora begs to disagree.

    And... y'know, Bolas too.

Well technically Kiora might be a mammal she dose have breast which would indicate milk and probably live young and being aquatic doesn't rule out mammals so kiora would actually appear to be a mammal so that leaves Karn Ugin and Bolas out of our current crop of planeswalkers.

Any one notice that aside from the dragon being red white and black it has the exact same color pattern as Oros red on top white underbelly and black head ridges and claws.

If the new land does not have its own basic land type I for one will feel very disappointed. I really want Barry's Land.

Edit: On a side note; Hooray! Another DemonDragonJ thread! They are always hilarious.

Have I not already explained why a sixth basic land type would be bad for this game?

And while I do not intend for any of my threads to be hilarious, I am grateful for your praise.

Actually you haven't explained why a sixth basic land type would be bad for the game. What you have said is that 5 is tradition and that it makes coalition victor worse. Not exactly compelling arguments for the level of dread you seem to have at the prospect of a new basic land type. If you have better arguments I for one would be happy hear them.

Perhaps I'm just blind and missing some big huge-ish breaker of the game, but how exactly would a Colorless Basic Land type break Standard/Modern?

If you need to as a question such as that, you clearly have not been playing this game for very long, but I shall give my best effort to answer it, nevertheless.

This game is built around its five colors, and each of those colors has a basic land associated with it. Colorless is not a color itself; it is merely a descriptor for cards that are not of the five colors, so it does not need to have a basic land of its own. There is also a real-world reason for this; is there any naturally-occurring terrain in actuality that could not fit into one of the five basic land types of this game?

Making a colorless basic land would be defying over twenty years of this game's history: for twenty-one years this game has functioned perfectly well with five basic lands, so I see no reason to alter that situation now. If a sixth basic land type were to be added, every card in the entire game that cares about basic land types, most notably cards with the domain mechanic and coalition victory, would be affected by it (it is already difficult enough to meet the conditions of coalition victory as it is, now, so imagine how much more difficult it would be to need an additional basic land type to win). Adding a new basic land would be a greater change than adding planeswalkers as a card type or altering the legend rule, both of which were very major changes themselves; it would break not only modern and standard, but legacy and vintage, as well (i.e., the entire game).

I do not see how anyone here could possibly think that this is a good thing for this game, and I dearly wish that Mark Rosewater would not allow such ideas to linger; I believe that he needs to crush any notion of a sixth basic land utterly, before it can grow and spread, or someone with higher authority (whoever that may be) than him needs to do so.

Maro was the one that designed Berry's land in the first place so he at least thought it was a good thing at one time there are some rules headaches involved in printing another basic land but nothing that brakes the game mostly just stuff that is a pain in the butt for rules and printing i,e a bunch things being tagged with it like coalition victory and that any future card that listed basic land types would have an additional bit of text.

I have gone through and read Demondragons arguments most of it is that the game hasnt had one four 21 years and that it push domain to six, one of the points of a sixth basic and that it would require coalition victory to have an additional card in play. None of which would be as game breaking as he seems to feel they would be. The main argument against it I see is that it is a card that would be pointless aside from EDH and a few specific deck types

and why does he even wish to revive them, at all, knowing that doing so shall endanger all the humanoid races (including himself)?

Because he does not "know" that. Simple as that.

He believes this is a good thing. Yes, maybe many humanoids will die, but the surviving ones will grow stronger in those conditions.
You fail to realize Sarkhan is red, with a bit of green and/or black. He is not even vaguely white (not even when he was Mardu). Look at what he did to its own troops right before planeswalking for the first time, and he liked it!
    that.

I am pretty sure wrathing a battlefield isn't an argument against someone being white I am not saying he is necessarily white but yeah.

"Nahiri was gone and her silence disturbed him." Now gone can mean dead but the silence disturbed him is the odd line. If Sorin means she is dead why would silence disturb him? To my mind this makes me think Sorin has reason to think she is alive despite the mending just not on Zendikar.

She tasked herself with protecting Zendikar and keeping vigil over the Eldrazi. She wasn't present there nor did she left any messages, so such a complete silence would be disturbing - unless he did know her fate (whatever it was).

Another thing that makes me think that she may be alive but not on Zendikar is the Dreams of the Dammed uncharted realms Ob Nixilis dose not seem to know her whereabouts since he has set himself up as an information broker for planeswalkers entering Zendikar it seems odd that if she died there after the mending he would be unaware of it.

You're giving him too much credit. He calls himself a guide - so it stands to reason he would give them information on the unique features of Zendikar, some info about Nahiri, but I doubt he has full knowledge of things that go on around the world

Yes but the death of its major protector a woman that he hates with a passion would have been the kind of information he and and any other planeswalker entering Zendikar would want to know especially if she was so fastidious in her guardianship of the plane that she attacked Ob Nixilis within moments of his arrival. Had it been the mending killing her she would have had time to leave messages for and try and find and warn Sorin and Ugin, who Bolas would already have taken out but still no reason she would no that, that Zendikar would no longer be protected and the eldrazi jailer was dead or about to be.

I am just saying that the only thing we no for certain is that she isnt on Zendikar.

The card is broken, but as probably others have stated before me, if we're gonna return to Zendikar soon enough to deal with the Worldwake, why bring Nahiri as a planeswalker here? She could've been saved for the return to Zendikar block. Sorin, Ugin, and Nahiri again to restore Zendikar. Oh well. I kinda feared that Serra wouldn't appear. I don't know why because Teferi and Freyalise were crucial to the Phyrexian War and so was Serra.
All indications point to Nahiri being dead after the mending. She wasn't around to help Sorin when Zendikar was round, and neither was Ugin. Ugin is dead, so what does that say about her fate?

You know I have seen this argument a couple of times and the more I think about it the more that it seems like an intentional red herring. The one real bit that points to her being dead aside from her absences is the one bit of dialog in Sorins revelation "Nahiri was gone and her silence disturbed him." Now gone can mean dead but the silence disturbed him is the odd line. If Sorin means she is dead why would silence disturb him? To my mind this makes me think Sorin has reason to think she is alive despite the mending just not on Zendikar. How she might be alive there may be a clue in Dreams of the Damned to that as well Obby says in one line that the hedron is what has preserved his mind " Did she know that by doing this to me, she would preserve my mind?" This might indicate that implantation of hedrons could be used to preserver our Lithomancer friend at a state that she was at just after the mending. That is just my thoughts.

I like the card and even if she is somewhat narrow in focus I am interested in trying her out but I tend to run a bit of equipment so my millage out of her may very upward a bit.

From Maro "goldenpineapples said: Is completing the "power two-drop cycle" (Stoneforge mystic, Snapcaster Mage, Dark Confidant, missing red card, Tarmogoyf for those unaware) a thing on the radar at WotC or just community speculation? And how do you feel about specifically Young Pyromancer being more of a reason for blue decks to play red than anything else? ("Spells matter" being heavily in blue's favor, tournament-wise)

We don’t consider it a thing. Also, we don’t go out of our way to make broken cards so it’s not a hole we would design to.

Now we need an Ashnod card, but unless there are two new legends in every color, that's not happening because Gisa and Geralf.

I am hoping Ashnod and Tawons will be in future multi colored decks probably allied colors since they always seemed blue black and blue white to me.

This card is going to be a beast in a boros deck with all the white creatures that bring token friends into play them and gain you life and such and all the red cards that burn things when they die or can be sacked to burn, and I think eveyone knows that his true love is clearly wurmcoil engine... oh god yosei the morning star and they just unband kokusho for commander all the kamgiwa dragons and him will be nasty combos except maybe ryushi who would burn feldon to death every turn. Hell while I am at it rune-scarred demon for infinite tutors great mow I need one for both my boros deck and my rakdos deck.

On a related topic, does anyone actually read the adverts which stop us from getting double sided tokens in regular boosters?

I have a booster pack, you don't need to advertise the game to me???

Yeah, I don't believe the whole "we HAVE to have ads on the back of the tokens" line.

They don't have ads on the back of tokens, they have tokens on the back of the ads. The ad cards only exist because Marketing wants to put ads in the packs. If you're right that these ads are totally ineffective and should be discontinued (because clearly we as players have a much better idea of WotC's business than WotC itself), then you get no tokens at all. They exist because they are ads, and arguing for the ads to be abolished is tantamount to arguing for the tokens to be abolished with them.

Replace every throw-away, paper-wasting ad card (you don't even get a guaranteed token with your ad, that's lame) and in their place, put tokens with regular Magic backs and a chance for the token to be foil (that doesn't screw take the slot away from your foil common/uncommon/rare). Guarantee that would sell more packs than those stupid ad cards that get instantly chucked in the trash by every player I've ever seen open packs, veteran and beginner alike.

But this discussion is getting off-topic (not that there is much to discuss in this thread which will probably be locked soon anyway).

You're ignoring the point. They don't have an extra card to do whatever they like with and somehow chose to make it something that apparently offends you on a personal level. They have a budget for advertising and chose to use it in this way. Replacing the ad cards with a regular Magic card (token or not) would cost more money even before taking into account the loss in revenue from the advertising (which is zero, right, because if you personally haven't seen anyone read those ads then clearly nobody in the entire world has ever done so. Your anecdotal evidence is obviously better than WotC's market data) and I guarantee (because guarantees from total outsiders with no real data to back up their claims are the gold standard in this business) that the increase in sales of booster packs would be negligible because while tokens are nifty they're hardly big money and although the number of tokens you would open would be higher under your proposal, the total supply of tokens would be increased by the same factor (by definition) so the market would remain unchanged. It's possible that WotC could make more money by changing they way they distribute tokens and ad cards, but it's not because they failed to consider the brilliant plan that you in your ignorance of all relevant factors happened upon. I really don't understand how so many people are absolutely convinced that they somehow know more about WotC's business than WotC themselves.

Actually from a market based stand point there argument is that the advertising is irrelevant since they are advertising to a sold market, in other words they are preaching to the choir. The first person actually asked if anyone had ever read or scene anyone read them he was actually asking for evidence that they have any effect.

The next person suggest that guaranteed tokens and the prospect of foil tokens would be more likely to cause the enfranchised player base to buy more packs then the add cards would. Since both are marketing to the enfranchised player ie the one who has already purchased a pack there is a logic in assuming that giving them something that they want and can use would increase profit especially for players who love foils. I could easily see the value of foiled planswalker emblems being higher given peoples love of foiling out there decks. Since his idea has never been tried there is no market data on there for we cant say if his plan would generate more revenue then add cards.

I am not actually sure how they would collect accurate data on the add cards ability to sell magic. How can you be sure once you introduce the add card that any market spike is not the result of the set itself being well received and not the add card or even that the possibility of the tokens on the add cards hasn't caused more enfranchised players to purchase more packs to get tokens for there older token generators? I know that is one of the reason people where purchasing unglued along with the pretty full art land.

Personally I am glad they are putting out tokens for commander 2014 it shows a sign that they are more willing to put out tokens and makes me hope that the black has a sengir autocrat just so I can finally have some serf tokens.

I am betting the red one is the new guy from an old plane I could see a Mercadian Goblin planes walker. Jaya seems unlikely because they said that the proto type for the red walker didnt match an existing archtype and Jaya is Chandra's archetype.

I dont think they will use Nahiri as the white because they have been hyping the lithomancer for years now and using her in a non story expansion product would seem a waist. That and nothing about her suggest anything similar to Ajani who was the proto type for there white walker. Ajani Goldmane however has always be about what I would figure a serra card would do with the life gain, giving creatures vigilance and the ultimate of a Serra's avatar.

Grandmother sengir was my first thought on reading the article maybe pre being trapped and losing her mind she could fit a similar archtype to Liliana but then so could leshrac Tzat while he would be my own personal freferance seem less likely now.

Green either seem like Freyalise or someone new
