I was looking at the infinite mana combos available in Modern, and the two most obvious to me were Pili-Pala+grand architect and Composite golem+Nim deathmantle. The latter combo is color neutral so I focused on it. The two obvious colors were red and green, with green having the superior searching options but red being better at cheap board wipes and having a number of pseudo-fireball creatures. My attempt at a cheap red version is below, it is clearly no good but I think the idea has merit.
The biggest thing is Faithless Looting is insufficient for finding the ingredients, but there are several field wipes available to red which is why I am focusing on it. Any better ways to run this or make a green version would be appreciated.
You know you could do this in just red/green, might work a little better. Presence of Gond+ Goblin Bombardment+ Goblin Sharpshooter works, untapping the goblin and doing 1 damage to an opponent an infinite number of times. Blasting Station works as a replacement or backup for Goblin Bombardment, but either way you get a three piece instant kill combo (if you get haste.)
Sigh, I thought Sharpshooter had been updated but apparently not.
I love the idea of this deck, and I was wondering how rapidly you put down Shrine of Burning Rage or Quest for Pure Flame? Say you have Quest for Pure Flame in your opening hand, do you drop it first or run it like a burn deck and when it slows down on turn 3 then move into it.
I like those suggestions, I am thinking about Gloom Surgeon against aggro and Phyrexian Negator as a side-board when facing off against control decks. The Gloom Surgeon is immune to other critters, and with only 1 toughness he only mills one card a turn. The Phyrexian Negator is a super beater but sucks against critters or lightning bolt.
My current casual deck (which came out of a Lotleth Troll deck,) the goal is to lock the enemy down and destroy their life with big creatures. The card that seems to fit the least it the Flesh Reaver, but I am not sure what would be a better 1-2 mana block critter.
It shouldn't short you mana. If you have a post on the field and you sack for another one you stay exactly equal, and if you have 2 posts on the field you have a net gain.
So my favorite, non-tribal, creature has always been Hydra's. But sadly, they have no real place to call home. So here is my version of the Hydra.
(This was taken from another poster on this site and slightly updated. The posters name was TheGreatGodLoki)
I like the idea, but I think 4 colors is too many. 2 colors is the limit to what I would consider in a Pauper deck, so the question is which two are the best.
Green has the biggest creatures but no in house way to flip them, so I would say it is out.
Blue has the ability to both flip and the second biggest creatures, so I say it is in.
White is the cheapest flipping, but nothing to flip so it is probably out.
Black has indirect flipping and something to flip, so I would say it is in.
Obviously you can disagree, but blue black seems the best way to go.
I do love me some shriekmaw, although I would want to drop one of my two kill spells down to a 1 mana spell. Maybe Disfigure? It might also be interesting to run Undying Evil as a way to offset the ancient's upkeep; pay 1 for undying evil, it drops into the graveyard and loses all of its upkeep counters and then comes roaring back.
Double black can be a little difficult to work around is the main reason.I posted an updated version below, not sure if it is exactly better but it seems to be closer to the goal.
Oooooh, I could run Spellskite and give my skite the 1/1 counters. That way even if they leave their side clear to kill the sheltering ancient I can beat at them.
4 spikeshot elder
4 mogg war marshal
4 composite golem
4 nim deathmantle
2 buried ruin
20 mountain
4 lightning bolt
4 pyroclasm
2 Anger of the Gods
4 faithless looting
2 molten rain

No Feral Hydra? With 8 post you can keep making it bigger on empty hands.

Yeah I added that one before in exchange for Child of Thorns. Shriekmaw is a good replacement for Fume Spitter but it pushes my mana curve up a bit.
Edit: OMG Spike Cannibal. Spend a couple turns switching the 1/1 counters between enemy critters and then steal them all.
Double black can be a little difficult to work around is the main reason.I posted an updated version below, not sure if it is exactly better but it seems to be closer to the goal.
4 hymn to tourach
4 go for the throat
4 Grisly Salvage
4 Doom Blade
4 hex parasite
4 Fume Spitter
4 Wall of Blossoms
4 Tombstalker
6 Swamp
4 City of Brass
4 evolving wilds
Fume Spitter seems pretty weak in this deck. I am thinking of something like Hunger of the Howlpack as a replacement. Any other suggestions.
