I play Burn my deck is safe Wink

Based on this announcement, I would barely be surprised if Mountain is emergency-banned later today.

Banning Twin feels like an enormous mistake, mostly because I'm not sure what can keep Affinity in check. Bloom and Twin were Affinity's two truly "bad" Tier 1 matchups, meaning that Affinity is now 50/50+ vs. a huge percentage of the field. Bloom I can deal with, but Modern falls apart without Twin.

We have $1 entry for Modern, so prize payout is pretty low. Generally, it's 3 packs to 1st, 2 to 2nd, and 1 to 3rd, with 1-4 receiving a promo.

Has anyone looked at Nivmagus Elemental and Eye of the Storm, with a ton of storm cards? You can run as many tendrils and grapeshots as you want, since you're going to be exiling them from the stack, and since each one you cast lets you recast every single previous one. Make some of the spells a way to generate a large amount of non-infinite mana, then use vorel and/or gilder bairn to double all the counters on the elemental, having spells to tap/untap vorel/bairn over and over. I'm not sure if you could use pull from eternity and past in flames in order to replay some spells, but I'm pretty sure that would make the combo infinite if you were playing rituals. You'd probably need something like Manamorphose to turn all the mana into colors you want, which would involve somehow turning on archmage ascension so you don't deck yourself, probably. Unless there's another mana filtering spell that I'm not thinking of. The important thing is that eye of the storm has you playing the copies, so they all add to the storm count.

Actually, is there space for a nivmagus elemental in the current combo? With all those doubling seasons, even exiling a single spell would put on a very large number of counters.

Not really. I'm not entirely sure how many counters exiling a spell would add, but it's not going to do anything compared to adding another Ackermann layer.

Is it possible that Summoner's Pact could be banned? It hurts Amulet's consistency, both with the PrimeTime kill and the Hive Mind kill, while leaving the deck perfectly alive.

I've never purchased a card on pre-order before. What would one estimate is a good price for Oath of Nissa?

I'm excited about this card's potential in modern and would like to get it before it is too pricey.

Oath of Nissa is not, and will never be, Modern playable. It has some casual appeal, and will likely be worth about 3-4 dollars in the long term, but I wouldn't pay more than about $1 for it now. It'll almost certainly end up around there after release

If you can't see the value of looking at the top 3 cards and getting a creature/planeswalker/land from the three cards, then idk what to tell you. If the card ONLY did that then it would be good. The fact that it: keeps dumping enchantments in graveyard to feed goyf, fixes for BG decks to get liliana out easy, and it filters for one mana.

For some reason I thought it only grabbed a 'walker. I think I will have to re-evaluate.

The official wording of it is if you activate the ability to switch power/toughness while it's a 1/4, and the opponent bolts IN RESPONSE TO THE ACTIVATION, then it will have 3 damage marked on it before it switches to a 4/1, killing it. But who cares? By the time we are bashing with this baby resources are on the low, so it's fine in my book
If you suspect Bolt, just hold priority after activating it and make it a 4/1. Then, they need 2 burn spells to kill it, and 2-for-1s are good.

Edit: nope I'm still dumb this doesn't work. Ignore.

@Programmer_112 I would switch the red fetches for blue fetches because fetching island is much more important than fetching mountain.

For a sideboard without moons I would try this:

    • 4 Lightning Bolt
    • 3 Empty the Warrens
    • 1 Echoing Truth
    • 3 Shatterstorm
    • 2 Rending Volley
    • 2 Dispel

The two dispel could also be some combination of Anger of the Gods, Echoing Truth and Defense Grid.

Thanks! I have most of the cards for that sideboard, and I think I can get the rest for pretty cheap, so I'll probably be using that.

I would swap the fetches if I had more blue, but unfortunately this was all I had on hand. I'll be looking to trade into more blue fetches soon, so hopefully that will go well.

On an aside: Today, I got to live the dream of comboing blind T2 against Affinity, which may have been the greatest feeling that Magic has ever given me.

    Hey, guys

I just finished the MB for this deck (happy belated Christmas to me). I'm currently playing the following list:

Obviously my manabase is a bit budgetized (No Scalding Tarn), but besides that, I think the maindeck is fine. Unfortunately, I don't have a sideboard built yet, and I don't have the money to buy Blood Moon (I'm several months ahead on my MTG budget currently). I'd appreciate if somebody could help me put together a non-Moon sideboard.

I'm also a bit in the dark about how I should play before going off. Specifically, when should I cast an engine? I've normally been casting them T2/3 unless I know that my opponent has an answer in hand (through Probe). I don't think this is correct, but I'm not entirely sure what's better.

    Thanks!

Not all of them. Putin is a prime, and rather obvious, counterexample.
Of course not all of them. But would you describe the general attitude as "being very careful what they say about Trump"? Because I sure wouldn't. Even Putin in his praise is not being "careful". What slave said was simply wrong, and Putin does not prove him right.

Indeed, nobody is watching their words about Trump. World leaders speak their minds about him with unprecedented frankness (ironically, adopting Trump's speaking style). It is also obvious that most of the things that he suggests are outright wrong. However, in politics, very few people care whether or not a candidate is correct, morally speaking. Support from Putin, as well as a significant percentage of Americans, shows that Trump's misguided rhetoric is somehow garnering votes.

You can tell a lot of world leaders are being very careful about what they say about Trump. That tells us that most think he's a chance to win.
What? World leaders are calling Trump out for his vile rhetoric with unprecedented frankness, and he has zero chance of winning.

Not all of them. Putin is a prime, and rather obvious, counterexample.
