So to start off, I'm an Affinity player, but I used to play goblins in legacy and I know the modern version is pretty different then it's older brother. Once I heard piledriver was getting reprinted and modern legal I really started to look up deck lists and find out which one works for me as a starting base before I'd make personalized changes to fit my own play style. I see a lot of people trying to go G/R and I was like it kind of works and kind of doesn't, I felt like the lists were missing something, how would Domri Rade work with this? Would it fit? Does it play well into the strategy? I think it could give goblins a better late game and a chance for more creatures, also if playing against Affinity have a Goblin fight off the pesky Signal Pest to slow down Affinity game plan
Anyone can "play Affinity" but not everyone can actually play it right. A lot of people think the right idea is to puke cards out. That is NOT always the case. You need to learn what's the best decision every game. Also, this deck seems to have a new strategy every game, even if playing against the same deck 2 times in a row. There's a bunch of little things that a lot of people don't know or understand.
Such as sacrificing one Ravager to another leads to the Ravager that sacced an artifact gets the +1/+1 counter and then the sacced Ravager's Modular ability can go anywhere.
Or another scenario, Having Spellskite out and your opponent uses PtE on your Ravager(like they probably should) you respond with Spellskites redirect ability and then Sac him to Ravager.
This deck is NOT easy to play, between poison and regular damage which should you go for? Also this decks strategy changes per player(as I have noticed) so how I play will most likely not be the way you play it.
@FNTwin Affinity is in a bad spot at the moment with all the UWR Control and UR Delver. But I still see Affinity as a very strong deck, some how we alway have a way to work around the hate. Master of Etherium is not NEEDED, but I would say highly suggested as it adds a big threat to the table. 1 of the biggest arguments is whether we should keep a hand that pukes 4-7 cards onto the table on our first turn or do a "first turn land, Springleaf Drum go, 2nd turn land, creature, use creature with Springleaf Drum and continue to puke out cards on 2nd turn". This deck is really a high risk high reward deck that has a LOT of choices that need to be made. It's not just a sac all to Ravager and move to Inkmoth deck.
The problem I see with Defense Grid is that UWR hardly ever uses mana on their turn, they keep their mana open to counter your stuff and wasting 2 mana on a try hard card and have it countered just isn't worth it to me.
Then why do we run Inkmoth Nexus? I mean quite a few articles say 40% of our games should be won with Infect, and that's just from Inkmoth, so we can raise that ratio to 80%+, no?
Well in my LGS there's a new guy there who I for some reason always play against and he plays GW Boggles and destroys me due to Spider Umbra, I use Whipflare, but that only helps if he hasn't enchanted anything yet. Maybe I'll use some Back to Nature.
