Hello guys, restarted playing recently, really enjoyed playing this deck in the past. I was wondering, what is the logic with the Obstinate Baloth on you guys list? Doesnt seems to bring anything special to the deck unless im missing something? Thank you

Hello guys, I started playing Grixis twin very recently and id like to ask you guys some feedback about my list.

Heres a few things I think about the deck. Firstly I dont like playing a list with a number of tasigur and 3 splinter twin main. Id ratter having the full combo package for game one and having the ability to swap some or all of it for tasigurs, batterskull and keranos in the sideboard, specialy for grindy matchup.

Concerning the spellskite main, well I feel like my meta is full of burn and aggro deck so I think its a safe choice.

Ive tested different versions of Grixis Twin on Cockatrice and theres one thing in particular I found difficult is to find the right balance of counterspells. Among Mana Leak, spell snare, spell pierce and Dispel, they are all very good in certain situation and matchups and other time they can be dead cards. I understand the best is probably to get some kind of mix in the main and sideboard, but Id like to know whats you guys opinion on it. What have been worked well for you?

Here's the list I will be playing for now.

Hi guys. I was wondering what are you guys think exactly about Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir and Surrak Dragonclaw for the sideboard slots. Can you guys tell me in which matchup you bring them and give some concret situation where you played them and why it was strong. I have no idea what is the Surrak Dragonclaw for and Im also wondering why not just playing another dispel or negate instead of teferi? I hate to have cards in my SB that I dont completely understand their purpose, so here is why I ask!

Concerning the Knight of the reliquary, the two reasons you mentioned are the most significant one to not play it in Hatebears. I just didnt think about it since I have never played KOTR in modern but yes without fetch its just bad and I dont want my 3drop to die to bolt.

Ghost quarter and canopy are very good lands indeed but what i meant is that there arent many lands that would affect the board that you can get with KOTR. Im not saying that modern should have legacy power level lands but I think it would be nice if Modern have more utility lands that can be played competitively.

    Hi Comrade!

Yes theres two good reasons i can think of why Hatebears doesnt play KOTR.
If you look at the majorities of creatures, they almost all have one thing in common; They have a direct effect on the game, participating in disrupting your opponent game plan. So basicly, I think that most competitive decks focus on applying one specific gameplan and making it effective. For example theres the GW deck that play 4x Wilt-Leaf Liege in which it aim at being the most aggressive as possible to win. But Hatebear doesnt want to be an average aggro deck. It want to apply disruption on as much angles as possible, making your opponent play becomes complicated or even impossible. The aggression comes naturally, the deck play almost 30 creatures in which some are heavy hitter, all that supported by exalted, manland and township.

The second obvious reason is modern utility lands are craps! Specialy if you compare it with legacy. I mean theres nothing really worthy to search with it.

    @ thomaster87

Great list overall but I think your choice of lands is really wrong. Would remove the Eigango castle Asap; it only can be use on thalia which doesnt even save her from lightning bolt and anger of the gods. Razorverge should be x4 and I suggest you think about the importance of tectonic edge missing in your list, all hatebear list play at least 1 or 2. One good skill to have when playing hatebear is knowing how many basic lands decks play. If you think your opponent have no basic lands left in their library then with both tec edge and ghostquarter you can hurt your opponent. For example when I play agains all the Grixis decks, I know they play only 1 mountain so I ghost quarter it and try to shutdown any of their red source so they get locked from playing all their Bolts, terminate and kolaghan command. Also Gavony Township is stupidly powerful in so many games. Last thing id like to add is that Id personaly prefer to have Linvala in the maindeck over mirran crusader (I like the crusader so much but Bolt is just to present in the format and I want to have all my 3drop+ to be bolt resistant).

Good luck & Have fun !

Hi everyone. Ive started playing Hatebear since a couple of weeks but ive always been a fan of this deck. I spent some time trying to improve my decklist as much as possible and now I think its pretty close from being optimal. Let me know what you think about it.

Here is my thought on cards choice.

There is 3 spots that I dont consider necessary and be changed with other cards:
    Aven Mindcensor
    Brimaz, King of Oreskos
    Wilt-Leaf Liege

I like the mindcensor as the fifth search disruption effect. Brimaz is very powerful in general, however it doesnt particulary contribute to the deck really. Wilt-Leaf Liege is good indeed but i would not play more then 2. I would see him suite just better in pure aggro decks with tokens.

For the sideboard I think Sunlance should have it spot there; it help dealing with aggressive deck, can also get rid of dark confident. Gaddock Teeg I can see this card good to deal with many cards like Ad nauseam, supreme verdict, cryptic command, Planeswalkers, Scapeshift, etc. I see many sideboard without the 1x celestial purge and im wondering why because its just one of those card that can deal with a huge amount of permanent. Also one last thing about the sideboard, Grixis deck is now really present in the meta and i found it very hard to beat them without stoping them from interacting with their graveyard, thus why I think 2x Rest in Peace is needed.

Many of you guys only play 2 Qasali but I personaly found it to be one of the best card in Hatebear; a good beater with exalted that can deal with problematic cards like Splinter twin. I dont like the 2 Kitchen finks in the deck but I think its just a safe choice in a meta full of burn deck. CoCo have been super effective for me almost all the time. Like some have mentioned already, one of the reason why CoCo is so useful in this deck is that it can bring you back into games that you are far behind. About the Dromoka's Command, I havent tested it enough to tell but so far it feel just alright, havent done any 2 for 1 yet and I wouldn't play any more then one into the maindeck.

For the lands, I personally never had much issues with the 7 colorless lands. Gavony township is just too good to not include it. Last thing id like to say is that Im pretty sure lands that comes into play tapped are too risky for Hatebear. I play only 1 Stirring Wildwood and I find it already risky. The thing is, the first three turns are crucial for Hatebear game plan. If anything have to be delayed for a turn because of a land that comes into play tapped, it can have repercussions that impact the game more then having a manland that can be activated in a long game.

Nice! Look forward to see your decklist.

What you guys think about 1-2x slaughter game in sideboard; agains miracle you can name Entreat the angel and now the deck have only Jace.

I understand that it will trigger. What I am asking is if you can activate as many activated ability as you want when there is a spell on the stack targeting my Viscera sear. So basically to be sure, when there is a spell on the stack lightning bolt, you can respond by activating or cast as many spells as you want if they can be played as instants? And the spell lightning bolt will only resolve when all the activated abilities and spells on the stack that I played resolve and I pass priority to my opponent?

There just under the decklist you will find the steps for the combo. So basically what im wondering is, can you step 3) to step 9) if your opponent is casting a lightning bolt targetting Viscera Seer let say when you declare your atack step.

    Edited: removed ambiguous sentence

Hi, my first question is pretty simple but my second might be more complexe.

I started playing a combo deck in the modern format that use: Protean Hulk Body Double Reveillark Viscera Seer Mogg Fanatic for a combo that create infiny loop damages.

First question: Is it mandatory to scry 1 when using Viscera Seer activated ability? Or I can just sacrifice as many creatures as I want without scrying.

Second question: Let say I have Viscera Seer and Body Double (that is a copy of Protean Hulk that is in my graveyard). My opponent cast a Lightning bolt (when he have priority) on my Viscera Seer. If I sacrifice my Body double (Copy of Protean hulk) with Viscera Seer , does the protean hulk trigger and resolves? And at this point can I get the combo working (involving searching multiple cards and activating multiple activated abilities) all that on top of the lightning bolt on the stack?

Thanks to anyone for letting me know.

  • posted a message on A few questions - Regeneration and more
Hi , ok I know questions about regeneration and combat have probably been asked million time. But now I have read many post and the more I read the more im getting confuse.

I attack with a 2/2 creature with regenerate, my opponent block with a 2/2 creature. Can I regenerate my creature and make 2 damage to his creature? Now if yes, what I need to know is when is the right moment to active regeneration (at which phase).

So at the combat damage phase after the declare blocker phase, can you cast any spell or active abilities or this phase only calculate for damages.

Also, if I block my opponent creature with a llanowar elves, if I tap it to take a man, would I still make 1 damage to the blocked creature?

    Thanks thanks
