Catalog is another instant speed filter effect. Not too sure if we need another for redundancy though. Maybe it's a decent replacement for Sire? Hard to say without testing.
Yeah, I'm on the fence about hermit druid. I agree with the Fauna Shaman cut because I found that most often, I just used it to discard a creature to survival ironically. Currently, Hermit Druid is probably taking the spot of Mana Drain since I am patiently waiting for someone to send me one on pucatrade. Should I cut it for, say, countersquall? All of my other counters are the same as your list.
I might have to give windfall a try too. I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the ooze combo in this deck unless you go for it in the first few turns. I found if you went for it midgame, the curve was too low to finish off all of the opponents.
Hey! Long time lurker but I have been playing the deck for awhile. In regards to Sire, would Baleful Force be more consistent since it guarantees the extra draw where as Sire is dependent on your opponents playing land?
For your stax list I think you might want to add a lot more cheap mana rocks such as the signets and moxen. Along with the cheap mana rocks, you can you can add a few tax artifacts and winter orb. It would probably be a good idea to lower the land count to 33-35 depending on how many rocks you add.
The day started with me and my friends getting to the tournament sign up right as it started. In hindsight, this was an excellent decision as the 150+ people signed up for the tournament and since the venue was too small, an additional ~80 people got turned away. The venue itself was nice besides its strange rules like "no hats" and "no outside food or drink or else the tournament gets shut down". Without further ado, here was the match-ups:
Match 1. Melira Combo 2-0:
Nothing too out of the ordinary here, I played a bunch of small things and pushed through his Kitchen Finks' with Atarka's and Grim Lavamancers.
1-0-0
Match 2. Jund 2-1:
Game 1: I run over him with a swarm of creatures + atarkas command.
Game 2: I had my hand stripped away and lost to bigger things.
Game 3: See game 1 (turn 3 kill!!!!!)
2-0-0
Match 3. Skred 2-0
Game 1: Lots of dudes seem to get there and he doesn't draw his pyroclasms
Game 2: He sides in infinity board wipes and doesn't draw any. Lucky!
3-0-0
Match 4. Elves 1-1-1
This guy was an extremely good elves pilot and friendly to boot!
Game 1: I make a serious misplay by playing the wrong fetch at the wrong time which cost me the game. Think before you play Verdant instead of Windswept Heath!
Game 2: Pyroclasm+Goyfs+Kittys=good times
Game 3: I make a dumb assumtion that costs me the win buuuut I play a worship and he had sided out Reclamation Sage so it went to time.
3-0-1
Match 5. Naya Burn 2-1
Very fun and close games! Lots of math and counting = super fun games.
Game 1: My creatures are bigger and get there.
Game 2: I have a really solid start but I get burned out 1 turn away from lethal.
Game 3: Really close the whole way through but scavenging ooze and two goyfs dodged the volcanic fallout and got there.
4-0-1
Match 6. Infect 2-1
This was a pair up so the guy was 5-0-0 and extremely frustrated he couldn't draw his way into the top 8. His tilt only got worse as I swarmed him with creatures.
Game 1: Puked out a bunch of creatures and bolted his dudes.
Game 2: 1 turn off lethal then become immense happens.
Game 3: See game 1
5-0-1
Match 7. Infect 1-1-1
We agree to draw securing our top 8 spots since we were in first and second.
5-0-2
Top 8 Wooooo!!!
First off, all of the players did a vote to do a top 8 split so everyone received $250 store credit. Because of this, no one was in a grumpy mood and the top 8 was more casual/fun than your average EDH night.
Quarter Finals: Jund 2-1
Game 1: He gets super mana flooded and I slowly beat him down with a kird ape and a couple arbors while also being flooded
Game 2: He Pulses my two wild nactls and I proceed to cry
Game 3: I run over him with a bunch of dudes. Did I mention how good Atarka's Command is?
Semi Finals: Elves 1-2
This was the same elf player as last time. Really fun match-up but it seems to depend on the coin flip.
Game 1: He wombo-combos and I die horribly
Game 2: I pyroclasm him. Twice.
Game 3: I was in a winning position but he got ezuri and archdruid off of coco which effectively took over the game.
Overall, I was totally exhausted but I had a blast! Biggest all star besides the obvious ones like goyf and nactl was Atarka's Command. I can't event count how many times that card was the reason I won. Also, Dryad Arbor was insane. It makes land draws not dead, blocks things, trades with Bobs, gets eaten by LotV so your goyf can live, and beats face with a little bit of help from Atarka's command. Dryad Arbors are the reason for running the 3 verdant catacombs over arid mesas. Worship is also hilariously good against certain decks when they don't know you run it and they side out mainboard enchantment hate. 10/10 would worship again. Thanks for reading my write-up! Fire away any questions if you have any.
Seeing new Kozi in action makes me definitely want to test it. Seems absolutely nuts! Also Jaya got new friends! Gauntlet is courtesy of a kind soul on pucatrade.
I went 4-0 tonight with that small zoo scg list. The deck absolutely slayed. And besides one iffy keep, I have nothing bad to say about the dryad arbors. They pushed that one extra damage I needed for lethal in a few games and they were excellent for fetching out of nowhere to block or sac to LotV.
