posted a message on Rayne, Academy Chancellor ability
Objects on the stack resolve one at a time, and each time before the top object resolves all players must pass priority.
So yes, you can let Rayne's ability resolve, then use that card in response to the original spell.

    Hope that helps.

Not sure how Heartfire is a "slightly worse" Reckless Abandon.
I'll gladly take instant speed over sorcery speed at the cost of one more mana. Lets you use it in response to a board wipe or removal. Plus the added value of being able to sac a planeswalker is gravy.

posted a message on Landfall and Evolving Wilds
You must resolve all of the a spell/ability before anything else can even be added to the stack, let alone something else resolve.
So you complete the full ability of Evolving Wilds, search out your basic land AND shuffle your deck. Then once you are done, the game can put the landfall trigger from Retreat to Coralhelm onto the stack, which won't resolve until both players pass priority with that as the top of the stack.

The fact that there are full stops in the Evolving Wilds ability, doesn't change anything. It is still all one ability that has to fully resolve before anything else can happen in the game.

Hope that helps explain things for you.

Or you can right click on the card you want, when not in craft mode. It will ask if you want to craft that card with the confirmation box popping up.

posted a message on Elvish Piper and Kicker costs
Aetherworks Marvel has you 'cast' the card. So as you are casting Pouncing Wurm, you can indeed kick it if you desire, by paying the kicker cost.

Also, when you have a question for the rules forum, please don't post in a thread that is nearly 2 years old. Just post a new thread for your question.

posted a message on Progenitus and Dragon Throne of Tarkir
Protection means that the thing can't be damaged, enchanted, blocked or targeted by whatever it has protection from.
The ability granted by Dragon Throne of Tarkir to the equipped creature doesn't damage, enchanet, block or target anything. So yes, Progenitus will indeed also gain the trample and power/toughness bonus.

    Hope that helps.

posted a message on Hero's Blade question
    They most certainly do.
Hero's Blade has a triggered ability, which like most things in Magic, uses the stack. Before the ability can resolve and attach the Blade to your Danitha, all players will get priority. So your opponent certainly does have the chance to cast Lightning Bolt to kill your legend.

    Hope that helps.

posted a message on Traverse the Outlands
No you are not allowed to get Breeding Pool or any other dual land with Traverse the Outlands.
Having a basic land subtype (such as Plains, Island, etc) does not make a land a basic. In order to be a basic land, it must have the supertype Basic.

    Hope that helps.

posted a message on Clarification for using instants and abilities during combat damage step
While the above answer is accurate, it doesn't actually answer the question being asked by the OP.
As Peteroupc with how you are interpreting the question, the Hungering Hydra would live. Following your line, the 4/4 Hydra would be dealt 3 damage by the Lightning Strike before combat damage, thereby triggering it's ability. When that ability resolves, it would end up as a 7/7 with 3 damage marked on it, then taking a further 1 damage later in combat. So would trigger again, making it a 8/8 with 4 damage on it.

Going back to the original question, Hungering Hydra has a triggered ability that triggers when it is dealt damage. This triggered ability uses the stack.
So in combat the Hydra is dealt 1 damage, so is a 4/4 with 1 damage marked on it. This will then trigger it's ability, which will go on the stack. It only gets the +1/+1 counter when that ability resolves. And before the ability resolves both players will get priority.
So your wife can indeed cast their Lightning Strike while the ability is on the stack. The Hydra will then be a 4/4 with 4 damage marked on it, so will die. It's ability will also trigger a second time, but neither abilities will do anything, as the Hydra is already dead.

I hope that helps fully explain the situation you were curious about.

posted a message on Kytheon VS Infect & -1/-1 counters
    You have it mostly right.
Kytheon will indeed die, as indestructible doesn't prevent a creature from gaining -1/-1 counters, or from state-based actions putting it into the graveyard for having zero or less toughness.

The thing you have slightly wrong is that all state-based actions are checked together. So the game will see Kytheon with zero toughness at the same time it checks to see what creatures (such as your Glistener Elf) have lethal damage marked on them. All this happens before the active player gets priority.
