The MTG secondary market is what happens when you have a market with absolutely no regulation.
In real life the market, especially financial trading/stocks, has tons of regulations that mean people can't get away with the kind of ***** that goes on in the MTG secondary market.
It's just that in MTG, the sums people are dealing in are hundreds and perhaps thousands of dollars, and the fallout is that average joes have to pay a bit of extra dollar for their MTG decks. Unlike real life where the sums are billions of dollars, and the fallout from lack of regulation in the market is millions of people losing their jobs/homes, industries collapsing, great depressions/recessions, political unrest, countries collapsing, nazis, etc etc.
I find it highly unlikely Goblin Guide is in BFZ. 4 playable red 1-drops would be amazing.
Maybe red weenie decks will be a thing in Standard? Plus Monastery Swiftspear will rotate out faster than Zurgo Bellstriker and Lightning Berserker. Khans of Tarkir and Fate Reforged will be considered a separate block from Dragons of Tarkir and Magic Origins under the new Two Block system
I got Goblin Guide's when they were only worth worth $10. Now that Burn is a strong deck in Modern, the Goblin Guides have catapulted in value to $30+.
At least the manabase is now affordable.
On the flipside, Daybreak Coronet's can now be had for $10 each. They used to be worth $35 up until a few weeks back. This I attribute to its reprinting in Modern Masters 2015 and the Bogles deck's descent from tier 2 to almost noncompetitive.
If you cut out Daybreak Coronet, you might as well not play Bogles. Waaaaaaay too underpowered.
But with the reprint of Daybreak Coronet in Modern Masters 2015, the prices have plunged from $30+ to $15+ on ebay. Which makes Bogles slightly more affordable.

Merfolk. They can bring out creatures with Æther Vial and can copy Eidolon with Phantasmal Image. Plus they very rarely play fetch lands and shock lands.
Everything you said makes Nicol Bolas sound like the wish-fulfillment of WOTC for the perfect bad guy. Nothing interesting about a bad guy with unlimited, convenient powers and a motive that boils down to wanting to take over the world(s).
And for the sake of the thread, Jace becoming a living guildpact is just lame...
And Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is cool in several ways. First its a freaking intelligent dragon, not just the ordinary beast. And its a planeswalker, incredible powerfull being that is among the #1 evil beings in the multiverse. Hes not just killing you, hes messing and torturing your mind till you go mad and kill everyone around you and WISH you would die.
Nicol Bolas is the pretty much the definition of "cool" in the sence of a evil being that just seeks power and does what he likes, has plans for everything he does that spread among centuries and multiple planes. He has agents on pretty much every plane that work for him, gather information, start trouble and increase his power.
If you simply dont care for the story at all and just want to play the card game, all these cards are really not made for you.
You have to accept that magic has more than just some spike players that want "good" cards , which means something totally different in the eyes of a jonny player that just wants crazy combos, or a timmy that just wants some ridiculous huge creatures and big impact effects, and then theres also the people that dont care about the game mechanics at all, they only collect the cards, enjoy the artworks and keep them, even others enjoy the flavour, backstory and lore of the game more, thats why theres even books about it and cards still have flavour text on them.
Magic offers more than just some cards to play with, thats the beauty about it.
Sorry to disagree, but your description makes him sound very UNCOOL. He lacks an interesting backstory and a clear motive. He's a grab-bag of evil intentions and superpowers. He is involved in almost all the MTG storylines since WOTC wanted him to be a big bad guy, but he never does anything meaningful. He also lacks clearly defined powers (WOTC gives him powers convenient to the storyline.)
In contrast, the Phyrexians had an interesting storyline (a group of artificers who were exiled to an artificial plane for replacing flesh with metal) and a clear motive (they want to merge their plane with Dominaria because artificial planes eventually disappear.) Nothing Nicol Bolas does comes close to that. He is just evil for evil's sake. He is the definition of a Gary Stu antagonist: a character that is written to be so perfect a bad guy that he is boring.
I don't like Jace, but marketing likes him or something.
Marketing also thought Vizzerdrix was cool and they made it the face of 7th edition. They also thought Erhnam Djinn was cool and made him the face of Judgement. Talk about a bunch of boring cards. Do they even have a marketing department?
And I don't care how much they retcon his story, Nicol Bolas will NEVER be cool. Please WOTC, stop it with the boring storylines involving this unimaginative, one-dimensional character.
The main modern masters thread has been overtaken by people talking about how great their boxes were. Its made the set seem more generous than it may actually be. We definitely need more of these stories over there.
What's the likelihood of seeing a modern event deck this year that has a decent part of a Tier1/2 deck?
I would like to see another one, as long as it is better than the last one, but I don't know how well it did. I can still find them easily for less than MSRP so it is all up to customer demand I suppose.
I wouldn't mind Affinity or Burn.
Yeah, they got as low as about $45 on ebay for a bit, but have been working their way back up since. Seem to sell pretty consistently for about $60 on ebay now. Which, given an msrp of $75, and a card value in the deck that basically equals the msrp, its not too bad.
As for the chances of getting a higher value deck next time? I sort of have my doubts there, but you never know.
Its a good product if you want to make BW tokens deck but nothing beyond that. Its still $50 at my LGS and no one wants to touch it.
I know this detracts from the talk of money, but I think Daybreak Coronet is really not a great card for the set in a limited format. It's a great reprint, for sure, but there's so few positive auras that it can work with. Goblin War Paint is really the only solid support for Coronet. Sure, you can use it with Splinter Twin, but that seems a waste of one or the other. You don't want to use it with a Pillory of the Sleepless or Arrest because of obvious reasons.
I just think it's an awkward addition, considering the lack of supporting auras.
The popular theory seems to be that Daybreak Coronet could only be placed in MM2015 because it would be out of place in either the Khans set or the Battle for Zendikar set. Hence its bizarre position in MM2015.
No one here to defend the job creators?

Isn't Modern Masters 2015 the equivalent of Chronicles: a bunch of bad reprints and some good cards.
Unless you want these additional features:

Didn't even think about that. I guess we will have to wait a little longer for goblin guide to be reprinted.
