For those running TKS. Wouldn't boreal Druid be a better option than nettle Sentinel? I already think boreal is just as good as nettle without have mandatory colorless

Yeah, that definitely makes sense! I like it Smile

On a different note, you guys have me on the eldrazi hype train now. I've been testing the following list with great success through cockatrice.

The Fauna Shaman is a flex spot I'm testing out; I couldn't find a better 2cmc Elf that perfects my curve. 11 Sources of white and 11 sources of colorless ensures I never have a problem with mana. Overall I'm pretty happy with the list, I'm tempted to take it to Cash Modern Monday to test it out.

Edit: Wastes is actually 3rd forest.

That's hot! I haven't been able to play Elves in a while. Really getting me pumped for my next trip to the LGS!

Don't think I've commented in a little while, but so far still having the most fun with black so been sticking to it. Been playing with the deck below. Anyone else having fun with Throne?

I've played around with it the last few times I've gone to my local shop. I really like what it does and want to continue testing. Just haven't played enough games to know if it's for real or just fun. Really glad to see more people testing it though!

I think if I was to take the GB list and jam TKS, I'd do something like this: (deck cut)

Hmmm...so you'd completely cut Chord? It seems like that would still be an important piece to grab a Shaman, TKS, Witness, Ezuri, etc.

Plenty of options for starting our very own Eldrazi Winter.

    LOL! Let's do it!

I don't believe it's practical to jam TKs into Shaman lists simply because any more than 16-18x 3-4cmc spells will skew the curve. The UG list is plausible because it falls within this curve parameter.

That being said, I do like this idea of TKs being thrown in. The card is a powerhouse across the meta and is miles better than Sculler or Maggot.

That makes sense. I wasn't really thinking about the curve with all of the available mana producing creatures in the deck. But you're probably right. I might give it a run just to see what happens at my local shop. I could go -2 Visionary / +1 Sentinel and +1 Land. It would be weird to have no Visionaries in the deck, but that would drop the curve ever so slightly while upping the land to 19. Can't hurt to just run it out there for a casual Modern night and see what happens.

Thought-Knot Seer proved as a viable option in my limited testing with Eldritch Evolution back when it was spoiled. People simply weren't expecting an Eldrazi from an Elves deck.

That makes me curious to try something like this:

12 potential sources of black mana for Shaman along with 10 sources of ? mana for TKS should be enough. 29 Elves for Gilt-Leaf Palace and 30 3cmc creatures for Collected Company. Possibly switch Chord for Evolution? But I like being able to EOT Chord or CoCo, so maybe keep it as is. I might have to give this a try...

The attached BFZ one is my favorite. The lighting makes it look like there's something powerful happening. And I like the appearance of the full art lands in general. I try to use them in my decks whenever possible.

Don't forget that Vizier combo is good against Ensnaring. Devoted Druid can swing with 0 power then get buffed.

That's true! I haven't moved to the GW combo deck (yet) since I really like the way GB feels. But if GW keeps moving up the ranks, I might have to consider an adjustment. Thanks!

Has anyone done anymore work on throne of the god pharaoh? If so how has it been performing?

I'm still testing it. I've been running 2x mainboard because I want to see it more often than not to get a feel for it. As has been mentioned though, it's Legendary, so seeing the 2nd one usually isn't great. I've liked what I've seen so far out of it. Landing one early along with the usual horde of Elves who can tap or be tapped for mana is glorious! Also, topdecking one late can be a nice surprise play to end your turn with lethally tapped Elves. My local meta has a lot of Ensnaring Bridge type stuff going on, so any extra chance to damage without attacking is useful for me. And if it doesn't seem like it'll be useful in a matchup after Game 1, it's easily sided out for silver bullets or specific deck hate.

I think it's time to say goodbye to the Master. 3 is the absolute maximum for the current meta. I think our position in the meta share reflects this shift, sadly..

Thanks for the reply! I'm feeling the same recently. I'm going to go -2 MoW +2 Copter for a while and see how it feels. I didn't get to play it last night because when I showed up everyone wanted to play Legacy. I'm never going to say no to that Smile Hopefully next time I'll have a chance to test it out.

Take this with a large dose of salt since I'm only a a couple months back into the game after 15 years off, but I've gone from 4 in the deck to 2. And if I have to sideboard, he's the first thing I pull out.

Yeah, that's kinda how I'm feeling about it right now. I'm sure part of my problem is small sample size. I don't play MTGO and have only been able to play against the decks at my LGS recently...no major tournaments. But MoW consistently getting axed as soon as I play it feels bad.

I'm still running the 4 Master of Waves to good effect.

You play a lot more than me, so I'll definitely take your word for it. I completely believe that it's still putting in good work. It's been great for me until recently. I think it might just be time for me to play around and see what feels right in my local meta for a bit. Hopefully he'll have a chance to shine for me again!

Are the majority of people still running 4x Master of Waves? With all of the removal available in Modern, I have a terribly hard time ever getting one to stick for more than a turn. I've been thinking about dropping 1 or 2x to make room for Smuggler's Copter. This would reduce my curve by a bit (I'm still on 19 lands, so that's relevant for me), add more draw / looting, can be cast off of colorless lands, gives some evasion, and is a strong early threat that has to be answered by my opponent. Of course, it doesn't work with Vial, doesn't add U for devotion, isn't a Merfolk, can be hit by artifact hate, etc. so it's not perfect. Just wonder what most people have been thinking. I still love MoW when he sticks around. It's just a bummer to put out tokens just to see him get wiped and have them all go away every...single...time. Here's what I'm going to try out tonight in some casual games at my LGS:

    Thanks!

The spell deck is the active library. If you run out of card in it and can't draw, you lose. A card like Gifts Ungiven allows you to pick up to four cards in either library.

It seems like this would allow players to easily build broken decks. Just off the top of my head from one deck that I play (Elves) how do you handle cards like Collected Company, Lead the Stampede, or Sylvan Messenger? Taking out 1/3 of the chances for those cards to draw blanks (lands) makes them pretty devastating! Now, it's a lucky swing if you hit 3+ creatures with LtS, but when you'd almost be guaranteed to get 4-5 every time, that's insane! Plus, you can play Eternal Witness as well, get LtS back to your hand, and play it again.

Anyway, not saying you shouldn't play by those rules. By all means, play however is fun for you and your group! But I like playing by the actual rules where if specific cards get out of hand, there's threat of a ban by someone higher up than just me and my friends. It definitely sucks to get mana screwed / flooded, but that's part of the game (to me) and makes me just re-evaluate my deck to make sure I've included the best amounts of land, creatures, spells, etc.

Also, you might want to look into a similar card game called Force of Will if you haven't already. It plays very similarly to Magic, but with a separate mana deck and spells deck, much like what you're doing here. Just a suggestion. Keep having fun Smile

    Check this list out.

Finished 16th without Ezuri and instead ran 2 Throne of the God Pharaoh. You think that's better than Ezuri in the GB builds?

In my small amount of testing, I've really liked how well Throne of the God-Pharaoh fits in this deck. I don't know that I'd feel comfortable getting rid of Ezuri for it, but I made other adjustments so it could fit. I'm no one to question his deck choices, but I'm definitely an advocate for more Throne testing! Glad to see it working out in a competitive environment.

Finally finished the playlist and still feel the way I thought I would. In his games, the Stakes seemed more cute than good and he only casted them once (which was in a winnable matchup where he already had the board state to take over.) If anything, it screamed to me that a budget Norin build is fine and another way to attack the meta that not's the traditional build. Honestly, as far as budget goes, it seems like it can do a better job of going big and wide thanks to the Champion of the Parish acting as a back-up Pridemate and Genesis Chamber allowing the go wide. Depending on how far budget you'd want to go, I'd probably cut the Outnumber for a more consistent budget removal spell (Condemn if you want to hit creatures or O-Ring if you want to hit everything) and cut the Burn at the Stake for another big-mana win condition. Not sure what that would be. Probably just Ranger since it's so cheap now and fetches both sisters, the Norin, and the Champion of the Parish? You might confirm that with the folks over at the Norin Sisters' thread, though.

Thanks for the review! I'll definitely dig around and see what I can put together. I have a handful of the cards already, but still need most of the main core. Interesting about Stake...I might check into Ranger instead and see what price I can find on it locally. I didn't even know there was a Norin Sisters thread. Thanks for that as well!
