I kept in mind the use of the toothpick throughout the alter process and I think it worked well! I also found some Matte Spray, the problem is it's 10*F here. just a tad too cold to work with it.

    Finished Batterskull

I'm not from the US, so I use stuff that isn't sold in your country. I recommend hitting up an art store and finding a spray that applies a matte coat.

Darn! :p I'll take a look when I'm off from work, might take a couple if I find them and test them on the old commons.

I like them! I have noticed the same thing as Qatol, where your edges seem to bleed into the actual picture, but I think it adds a bit of texture.

    Love the detention sphere.

Thank you! I try not to paint inside the box but in some cases it helps me blend colors better. Like in the clouds on the Archon.

I think this is more a question in regards to the Fair Use rules. But would it be kosher to create burlap banners of the Ravnica guild crests for sale at cons and the likes?

I use a toothpick (and a ruler for modern border cards). Remove the paint as you go. If you leave it all to the end, when it is all fully dried, it is harder to remove cleanly.

I will keep that in mind! I've left it to the end (I'm sure it shows!) I have a Batterskull I plan on working soon, so I'll try it on that.

Do you have any recommendations for sealants? All my cards so far are unsealed because I don't know if they will discolor or pull the paint.

Thanks Qutol. It's something I'm still trying to figure out without scratching the card underneath. I had been using a straight edge plastic chisel but that seems to pull more paint than needed.
Last night I touched up two more cards and used a toothpick instead. I think they came out better, but again sometimes they take more paint off than I want.

Thank you! Kai, I have already created a thread over there for my alters. There are some great tutorials I plan on looking at as well. I really hope to find a fixative/sealant that people seem to like and works!

Wumpus, I'm not much of a player really. I do mostly card alters but I'm in the AC area.

I've been doing this only for a short time, and most of the cards are extras or others from my guy's collections. Some of my more recent ones have been challenges from the local game store. Feel free to give pointers or advice as I'm still new to this!!

    Lots of pictures, OMG

These two were my first done. roughly at the same time. I work on multiples at once because why not?

I was still working on just commons at this point. My SO didn't want me touching his rares quite yet. :p

Everyone at the LGS seems to love the Hedron Crab.

The Thalia was done on commission for the LGS.

    Hey guys!
I'm an alter artist looking to share some of my works and maybe meet some others who are willing to share some tips and tricks!

I'm not much of a player myself, that's more my guy's thing. I have a few EDH decks though, my favorite being my Xira Arien bug deck. It's not really that good but it's fun. :p

Please to meet you and yes I am of the female persuasion. Wink
