assault suit is some equipment that is tailor made for Zurgo voltron. He get's passed around the table, stays indestructible and racks up the damage. If you find a way to make him hexproof he's very hard to dig out and is an inst-clock.
After also reading the books and growing up playing magic, I think what made Urza the greatest protagonist was the best antagonist, that mainly being Yawgmoth. Mishra was great and all, but to beat Yawgmoth it took so much effort from arguably the most powerful character in the multiverse to win and even then, Urza had a ton of help. And their rivalry was fantastic.
