Just let temur be a thing and I'll be happy Frown

Just because the deck isn't tier 1 yet doesn't mean it can't be.

Abzan midrange is heavy on removal and Sagu Mauler mauls that strategy.

UB control is pretty much counterspell.dec and Surrak, Dragonclaw laughs at that.

The problem is you need life gain to stay ahead of Jeskai wins before it burns you out.

There's Courser of Kruphix and beyond that you're scraping the bottom of the barrel for green cards that gain life.

Playing stuff like Temur Charm as a counterspell that gives you extra utility might be a good strategy against Jeskai. The one Temur deck that showed up in the top decks of PT Khans was running it main deck.

I have been playing a few variations of temur since rotation and it feels pretty solid. The cards you mentioned definitely work against Abzan and UB, however for jeskai i bring in my hornet queens and bow of nylea. They tend to get the job done

We have this one guy at my LGS who is a total sore loser. If a game goes to like turn ten and you win and extend the hand with a "good game" (going ten + turns usually indicates the game was pretty close) he refuses to shake your hand and will say things like "not really, I would have won, but I misplayed" or if he is really salty you extend the hand after the game ends and he just looks down at the table, packs his stuff and goes and sits down somewhere else while you are still sitting there waiting with your hand held out.

Just bad luck I suppose. I opened one at prerelease and another in my prize packs. A friend opened a foil one in his box on friday.

Dark Ritual add's three black mana to your mana pool for the rest of the current phase. If you move into any other phase or end the turn, the mana empties from your pool.

Example, you cast Dark ritual main phase 1 and have 3 black mana in your mana pool. Then you cast Bloodghast, you have 1 black mana floating. If you move to combat phase, that mana is gone.

I can't tell you how many times I draw a selesnya charm on the masters upkeep trigger. Granted that is just insane luck on my part, but makes me smile every time.

What is the fate of this guy? He seems just so so so insanely good, yet hasn't made much of a splash since his release back in January. I play him as a 2-of in my brave naya list and he has been insane there, but the list is still not T1. Anyone have any predictions if he might do some stuff post rotation? He is easily one of my favorite cards released in a while and I feel he is too good to not be in a T1 deck. I am also thinking about a soldier tribal with him, raise the alarm, preeminent captain, obelisk of urd etc., though I feel that will end up just as a fun FNM deck.

I understand that it's not the biggest deal, but there have been cards released since theros that pretty much single handedly put T1.5 decks into T1. R/G Monsters wasn't considered top tier until BNG with the release of courser of kruphix. I'm still waiting for Brimaz to really do some work, a man can dream can't he! Though he is a house in my brave naya list.

God I wanted to choose both green and white for my favorite colors. They constantly switch back and forth for me. As for least favorite? Black is a great color for many reasons, it's just the flavor of black turns me away. I have always loved the "white knight" or "power of nature" archetypes and black is just the total opposite of those. Blue is my second least favorite. I am a creature guy at heart, I love winning in the combat step and that just isn't blue's strongest attribute.

I'm pretty excited for this card, I play Brave naya so I am generally not worried about any enchantments on my side of the board. A nice way to deal with courser's, master of the feast, d-sphere, connections etc.

I think Liliana Vess is one of the "reprint" cards who's number is greater than 269.
And then I think the actual Garruk card in M15 will be black only (surprising most), not black-green. Preserving their precedent of core sets having single-color walkers.

Nicol-Bolas was in a core set as a "bonus" multicolored walker. Garruk will almost definitely be in the same boat here. 5 monocolored walkers, 1 multicolored.

I actually ended up converting my Naya hexproof list into Brave Naya and went 4-1. I lost round one game 1 to pack rat insanity with no MB answers for it. Boarded in my two mizzium mortars. Ended up taking him to 8 game 2 with two boros charms in hand and 3 lands untapped at the end of his turn. Sadly my one red source was a mana confluence and I couldn't close it out. I played against mono b once more in round 5 and dominated it quickly with brave the elements and boros charm just swinging for 7-12 a turn. Fleecemane Lion ate the control decks for breakfast. I had too many dudes for espers devour flesh's to matter so verdict was the only answer, I was just careful not to overextend and rode to victory both games on the back of a monstroused lion or two.

So I just recently began running in my LGS' summer league. We are about halfway through our 12 week run period and I myself haven't done terribly (I think 8 in the standings?). However, our top 10 is primarily Esper control and Mono Black. There is one guy in 2nd running Junk midrange and one other around 9th or 10th running burn. There are very few aggro decks running around and 0 Mono blue players. So 7 in the top ten are control or mono b. There are usually around 18-20 people there on a given week.

I started playing Naya hexproof with moderate results, then switched to a G/B constellation deck with a lot of rock elements in it for the last two weeks and my standings have slipped a bit. Any ideas on what kind of deck might do well in a control/mono black dominated meta might be? I am fairly new to competitive tournaments and I am absolutely new at trying to dissect meta games and how to properly build for them. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • posted a message on [[Official]] "What Deck Should I Play?"
I just started playing Modern and really want to play something fun yet competitive. I built almost all of Affinity, but I am not really an aggro player. I hate how fragile all of my creatures are.

Favorite Playstyle (Aggro, Midrange, Control, Combo): In order Midrange (mostly big mana decks. Something about ramping into massive threats on turn 3 and 4 makes me happy.), Control, Aggro, Combo (it's boring to durdle until you combo out).
How Competitive (For Fun, Local Tournament, MTGO, PTQ/GP): Mostly at my LGS (though highly competitive players all with T1 decks) and the occasional PTQ
Favorite Cards/Colors: Favorite Colors are Green White and Black in that order. Elspeth, Craterhoof Behemoth, Emrakul
    Budget: $300-500.
Staples Owned: All of affinity save for 3 Mox Opals,4x Thoughtseize, 4X Overgrown tomb/Sacred Foundry/Temple Garden/Stomping Ground, 2x Primeval Titan, 4x Duress, 3x Student of Warfare, 4x Eternal Witness, 2x Garruk Wildspeaker, 4x Bolt, 1x Blood Moon, 1x All is Dust, 2x Graffdigger's Cage, 1x Torpor Orb, 4x Kitchen Finks, 4x Ancient Grudge, 3x Abrupt Decay.

Nothing of insane value save for my affinity list (which I find not fun). I would love to play Jund if I had a limitless budget, but a playset of goyfs is worth more than my entire collection. I love decks in standard such as R/G Monsters, B/G Enchantress, Junk Midrange etc.

So I am thinking of trying out the red splash again this week to bring in a few Slaughter Games. My meta is just so filled with U/W/x control it's not even funny. I will let everyone know how it improves the match up if at all. Though I feel getting a playset of supreme verdict out of the deck will ensure eidolon of blossoms going crazy a little more often.
