It seems pretty evident from articles posted so far that "Louie" is Tarkir of a different time, most likely the past when Ugin was alive. I think it'd be cool to see them go back and bring Ugin to the present and then him and Sorin head off for Zendikar to deal with that mess.

Pretty sure Zendikar is the next block anyway, so a story tie in would be neat and expected. I was at the PAX Panel and during the Q&A session, some guy asked about Sorin's motives for trying to find Ugin, asked if he was concerned about the Eldrazi and if he was trying to get the "band back together" so to speak, then asked if we were going to see Eldrazi or Sorin heading to Zendikar. I can't remember the question exactly, but that was the general feeling of it. Doug Beyer answered the question a bit cryptically and then as they were transitioning to the next question, he said, kind of into the microphone but sort of as an aside, "Let's talk a year from now."

I have explained elsewhere why it is illogical for a return to Zendikar to be the next set, but the short answer is: WotC likes to visit other stories between each part of a myth arc to prevent storyline burnout like there happened at the end of the Weatherlight Saga. Tarkir is part of the Eldrazi storyline, even if the Edrazi themselves won't show up in the block. Both Sorin and Sarkhan are on Tarkir to look for Ugin (Sorin to get the dragons help with the Eldrazi threat, Sarkhan because he is compelled to do so). They find his corpse, and Sarkhan goes back in time to either prevent the dragons death or become the vessel for his spirit (we will learn which in Fate Reforged). It is simply to early for the story to continue in the next block.

I'm going to go ahead and trust Doug Beyer's comments more than internet musings. Sorry. :\

Considering nothing I have said goes against anything that Doug has stated, nor that he (or anyone else working on M:TG for WotC) has stated that the next block is a return to Zendikar...

After the large paragraph explaining why it won't be the next set? Or rather, that it's illogical, which is not strictly saying it's wrong, but seems like a very passive aggressive way of saying it...

And you're right, they haven't stated it at all. But I also know what I heard not 20 feet away from me during the panel. Even given that, I know it's all speculation, which is why I posted it here in this speculation forum.

Javier's previous turn, before the video picks up, was him Brainstorming correctly and returning a second Brainstorm to the top of his library (along with another card). That's why he flips it over off the top during his draw. That turn was followed by Castello accidentally drawing two cards (or flipping two for the Delver trigger, not sure which). Then the video happens. I don't buy that Javier performs Brainstorm correctly the previous turn (to say nothing of the countless times he has cast it during the tournament) but then has a lapse the very next.

Better yet, why not combine both? Take my number 2 idea and as the block progresses, we see Sarkhan Vol become a legendary creature (general of his army) culminating in the sacrifice of his own men during the third set of the block wherein he comes a planeswalker and gets sent back in time to Jund. It would be kind of cool to see that a planeswalker of Zendikar/Khanar was necessary in order to open the Eye of Ugin, despite the fact that he had no recollection of being from that plane, even if it was from the future...

    NAAHHHHH

Keep in mind I have no idea how much they've explored Sarkhan Vol in books, etc. so this might not jive with existing lore.

    1) I beat ya to that :p glad to know I'm not the only one hoping for it though.

    2) I like it

But where is the confirmation that this is a desert plane?

Information I've received that I feel is reliable. I'm just going to leave it at that.

I'm hoping for 2, but I'm happy with 1. I mean, 1 makes the most sense because a war-torn plane of fighting warlords is pretty much the definition of where Sarkhan is from.

Well, since it's going to be set on a desert plane, this gives me hope for one of two things:

    1) We finally get to see the home Sarkhan Vol, where dragons have been hunted to extinction or somehow mysteriously disappeared.

    2) It actually IS a return to Zendikar. Since the Eldrazi have ravaged the plane, consuming and draining its mana, Zendikar has become an empty husk of the lush world that it once was. The Eldrazi devastation wreaked havoc with the local time stream, causing the plane to experience time passage at a faster rate than normal. Mana has slowly started to flow back through the world.

Humans and other creatures have began to repopulate the shattered world, adapting to the new desert conditions, many of them unaware of what transpired "so long ago." The population has formed itself into territorial clans, each ruled by a regional warlord similar to how Afghanistan is set up in our own world.

I think it's more likely that it's #1, but I'd like to see #2 since that could be an indication of enemy fetch reprints. Wink
