playing the Grixis (fury) version for the past month or so, I've mostly learned to play through/around countermagic. Discard is a much more difficult thing to beat. Still have not gotten around to trying leyline of sanctity in matchups like jund. Anyone have any experience there?
run some snapcaster mage, flashing back discarded vengeance can allow you to win out of no where against them.
its possible but unlikely that the game will go long enough for you to flashback through the breach snapcaster, though it could happen.
alternatively flashing back cards like lightning axe, and izzet charm has proven to be useful for the longer game as well.
I've thought about snapcaster mage but have not yet tried it.
I went 3-1 in another daily last night losing this time to B/W tokens. In reality I lost to taking a poor line and leaving myself dead to a card I thought he would sideboard out
I beat:
UW control
Tempo Twin
Affinity
The affinity match I won by hard casting griselbrand in g3.
I've gone back and forth on trying out Leyline of sanctity. One one hand it does alot when Jund gets its multiple discard draw. On the other hand they only play 6 discard spells. What I've found to be the biggest issue in games I've lost to Jund (which still is at around 50/50) is their ability to just 1 for 1 me to death.
To that end I want to find things that allow me to see more cards/get ahead on cards to fight their discard
maybe however I'm looking at this completely wrong and we want to just find the way to Jam the combo as hard as we can and not slow down to their speed.
3-1'd my second modern daily in a row with the fury of the horde version. My loss came to jund, but really to double mulls to 5.
I've also been messing around with the fist version. What i've found in the games i played is that getting a Griselbrand into play is still often gameplan 1 such that you can sculpt your hand to win the next turn. Clearly Fist + Emrakul is the most bonkers thing you can do but also requires a total of 8 mana (over 2 turns) to 3 mana for reanimating Griselbrand.
I think they did a good job in creating a format that has a specific game speed. With the unbannings above they can start pushing the limits on the polar ends.
wild nacatl would help to push Aggro
visions would help to push control
I've been messing with various versions on modo. 3-1d the modern daily last night with the pretty established Grixis version. I lost to Naya pod in a match that I feel I could have won with a few better decision making trees.
I might try the fist plan as a sb plan. The issue then becomes building a mana base that can handle it.
Has anyone given Dzl's fist of suns variant on this a try? I mean to but I haven't gotten around to it. In addition, I've been struggling with how and when to board out/keep in Fury of the horde.

was Mono blue looking for more counters?
