The snakecat really isn't that big of an issue guys, in any format. In standard, we're flush with removal and, as has been mentioned before, a ton of counterspells that get around the ability regardless. In modern, i mean, Gaea's Herald is already card and has seen zero play. Unless you're attempting to make your pet mono U deck work at the kitchen table, i don't think the cat does much, especially at 3 CMC. If nothing else, it adds another interesting dimension to standard. Won't see play outside of that, but that's okay and good nonetheless

Gaea's Herald is not exactly a main deckable card or a clock where as this beats for 4 starting turn 3. It's also not counterable itself.

More to my point of this card's play-ability, a 4/3 that stays a 4/3 isn't really that difficult to get rid of. If the control decks cant get rid of this card, there are a lot more problems going on. Gaea's Herald dies to literally all removal while that cat only dies to all the removal that's played, which is extensive, especially in a control deck worth it's cardboard.

Hey guys, went to a GPT in NYC this weekend. Went 3-1-1 to ID into Top8, but I lost to the same Affinity deck in the quarters i lost to in round 2. I play the spoils version and i felt like a dog all 5 games we played (Round 2: 1-2, Quarterfinals: 0-2). I have recently taken out Hurkyl's Recall from the side because of Affinity's fall from grace. I put it to you all, is it time to put them back in? Looking at the metagame break down it seems it is still out in force and i may just be missing the match-up. Are there better SB cards that cover a larger range of matchups? The usual fogs don't seem to be hate enough. (Didn't help he always seemed to have Spell Pierce whenever i was trying to go off as well).
    Top8

Sidenote: Had a fun time beating TWO other Ad Nauseam decks on the way to Top8 as well. One was an almost direct mirror with just some more spice in his SB ( Slaughter Games ??) and one had copied the list from the last GP winner. He seemed a little uneasy with the deck. One of the more thought provoking match-ups we have.

Was this the one at the geekery yesterday?

    Yup! Were you there?

  • posted a message on Visiting NYC this weekend? Best Magic places to visit?
Like the title says, I'll be visiting NYC this weekend. I'm visiting my brother but he has a conference for most of the afternoons/early evenings. Any suggestions on what i should hit up while I'm in town? He's a player too, so a good FNM recommendation is also appreciated.

Hey guys, just wondering what everyone body is feeling on the optimal sideboard configuration with the current meta. I have the usual fair in the side myself, but especially with the (re)rise of Death's Shadow, I'm thinking of adding Wall of Shards back in, at least as a 2-of.

  • posted a message on [KLD] - Spoiler Discussion for Modern
It's not that the cards cant be good in modern and not good in standard, its that R&D does not test or design for modern. MaRo has specifically stated they do not have the resources nor the time to test for modern, which is how we end up getting banned cards like T-Cruise in the first place. This is more the point Niall was trying to get at.

  • posted a message on Ethics in Streaming MTGO
As with paper Magic, it is certainly unethical to seek help from outside sources, both within the rules and the social contract. Now whether or not someone wants to do it is personally up to them, still doesn't make it right. Ghosting is illegal and can be punished under certain streaming services, not that it makes it any easier to prove. As with bigger (ie more important) online events, those are usually done in person, but on computers, oddly enough. See the recent MOCS for an example of two people at a table playing with their computers. Easy to enforce when Wizards knows what the two players are looking at.

WTF? They enforce the guidelines of the website, which you all agreed to when you signed up? Certainly there is some stuff that is left up for interpretation, but thats the whole point of them being mods? If you don't like the way they moderate, you can have your discussions on another medium, where they can't moderate you.

Variance and luck are inevitably tied to MTG. To change the variance would be to change the game, which i am sure none of us want. The only way to rectify your issue, reducing skill variance, would be to change the variance inherent in the game.

Not enough people want to play other formats. The events you are talking about would exist if enough people wanted to play them, even at FNM.

  • posted a message on Grand Prix Weekend Megathread - GP Charlotte/GP Los Angeles 2016
All the top-32 of GP Los Angeles are solid decks. GP Charlotte... I'm lost. Especially Ad-Nauseam. How often does it win before turn 4? And where does it get its consistency from? You need multiple pieces, it's like a collected company deck without the beatdown plan. This is one deck I have no clue how it works.

Its gets its consistency from the usual blue cantrips like sleight of hand and serum visions , but also in the 1 mana "tutor" spoils of the vault . And to be sure, its only a two card combo, with Ad Nauseam being paired with either Angel's Grace or Phyrexian Unlife . Lets you draw your entire deck then and win with your kill cards, eiher Lightning Storm or Laboratory Maniac . Its consistent and dodges a lot of hate.
