I love Chemister. Don't know why he wasn't on my maybeboard before now.
I've been doing a lot of thinking this week, and I'm starting to seriously consider a Jeskai(WUR) build instead of Grixis. That way, I can keep my Izzet colors and splash some white in there for all of the sexy artifact synergy.
Does anyone else have suggestions for white cards that synergize well with artifacts? Or perhaps you'd like to suggest something really cool that black can do that I haven't thought of?
I've recently become intereseted in Canadian Highlander, after seeing LoadingReadyRun's "TapTapConcede" podcasts about it. I'm trying to see if I can make Grixis(UBR) Artifacts work. I know that Esper(WUB) is probably a more conventional choice, but the Izzet player in me would have much more fun with a Grixis build.
Here's a list of the singles I'm kicking around right now. This is not a deck! It's just an amalgum of cards I've purchased recently or pulled from my collection to start brewing deck ideas.
I know that without W, I'm missing out on a million cool things like Scourglass and a spellbook full of other cards that synergize perfectly with artifacts. I'm trying to figure out if R has enough to offer a UB artifact deck, and what advantages it has over W, if any.
Mostly, I want to get a group together that plays Canadian Highlander, which uses a point list in lieu of WotC's 100-Card Singletonban list. I'm down for 100CS too, if you don't have any power cards or something.
If you're curious about Canadian Highlander, you can hear LoadingReadyRun talk about it in this video and this video, among others.
Turns out, as I was waiting for the name change, I browsed the forums a bit and noticed that there are no posts under the name Jim. Is the name "Jim" available, per chance? If not, I'm happy with this one, but I've actually secured the name Jim on several other forums like Hummingbird, PSO-World, and Skullheart. Having it here too would be the bee's knees.
Sorry about the indecisiveness; I'm new here, so I'm still getting acquainted with the site. It seems pretty groovy!
Edit: I see it was available. That's great; thanks again!
Right, I just realized my wording was a little funny there. I just edited it to "my opponent will be effectively unable to counter the Forge", since countering it will just result in wasting mana.
...that my opponent will be effectively unable to counter the Forge with Ice Cave's ability, since Mishra will just fish it right out of the graveyard.
As I understand it, when a spell is played, Ice Cave triggers regardless of whether other players want to counter my spells. Since Ice Cave is mine, I choose where it goes on the stack relative to Mishra's ability, and can force my opponents to decide whether they want to counter the Forge before I even search my graveyard for it.

When I really step back and look at my pool, I realize that black isn't doing all that much, besides letting me cast a few favorites like Baleful Strix and Demonic Tutor. I want to run a decent amount of equipment like Batterskull, Darksteel Plate, Sword of Fire and Ice, Darksteel Axe, etc. With a little bit of artifact-white-weenie like Court Homunculus, Ethersworn Canonist, Metallurgeon, etc, this deck starts to look a lot scarier.

Your post made me realize that I hadn't searched Gatherer for the "Artificer" creature type yet. After doing that, I picked up Embersmith, Synod Artificer, Renowned Weaponsmith, Muzzio, Visionary Architect, and Wing Splicer. I'll be adding all of these to the card pool in the OP.

Anyone want to play?

Glad this works, though. Thanks for the reply!
The stack: (Resolves top to bottom)
...that my opponent will be effectively unable to counter the Forge with Ice Cave's ability, since Mishra will just fish it right out of the graveyard.

Is all of that right?
