Is anyone playing G/W anymore? If not then why not? With a tiny bit of tuning I've found it to be very good against G/R/[B] Monsters, U/W control variants, and MBD. Honestly, MUD was the only deck that made it less viable but no one plays that anymore. Thoughts/opinions?
My current list:
I'm kind of iffy about the two dark betrayals, but I'm not sure what I would replace them with.
I'm playing in a tournament tomorrow and the meta is fairly balanced, so any advice is super appreciado.
I've played this variant and currently play Jund which is similar. I can guarantee you'd rather have the fourth Abrupt Decay than the Ultimate Price. Other than that it looks good, good luck.
I know some people continue to report success with the deck but for me I find it's underpowered against Mono B, Mono U, Esper, UWR, etc. It's not to say that picking up a win isn't possible, but it's unlikely at least for me.
I haven't seen anything yet in BNG that seems to shore up this deck, but we are still over 100 cards to go.
I'm not sure if it makes more sense to go Rakdos for Anger, Return, and Slaughter Games, or go Golgari for Decay and the Charm. They all seem so key, but it feels like maybe the deck needs to be more focused. I've also seen a variant of Mono B splashing W for Blood Baron and G for Decay and Charm. Maybe that's the way to go? Seems like the deck needs an evolution.
That all being said, I really enjoy the play style of Jund. I just feel like it's a couple key cards away from where it wants to be. Looking at the summer Jund list they just had a lot more happening.
I have two mortars main for BBV. Also, I just said that I think UC belongs in teh SB for more game against mono B.
So I went to a PTQ yesterday and I found that Slaughter Games and Anger of the Gods just didn't do enough in the SB. In my opinion we need a little more game against mono B so I think I'll put in some Underworld Connections and possibly some Dark Betrayals. I think 4x Underworld Connections would likely be better as it's also very good in the control match-up.
Also, for anyone who cares I went 4-5(I dropped the last round). All of my losses but one were to Mono B variants, the last one being to a Burn deck. I beat three Mono U deck with ease along with a Naya Aggro deck, interestingly almost all of these games were total blowouts.
I've been testing your list for the past two days, and I think its easily the best Jund list I've seen since rotation. My only swap is -1 Rakdos Return in the SB for another Mortars. This just beat out my RW deck as the deck I'm taking into DEs now, so thanks
Glad you like it. (: I'd appreciate it if you could post results as I haven't taken it to a proper tournament yet.
Why Polukranos? isn't better in a devotion based deck? The monstrosity ability is huge but it needs lot of mana to be very effective.
If you had the 4th stormbreath what would you remove from your MD list?
Btw interesting list. Wanna give it a try for next FNM
Polukranos, World Eater gives respect to both mono blue and cards like Blood Baron of Vizkopa that dodge most of my removal, he's also a HUGE blowout against any weenie type strategy and a very fast clock if he goes unanswered.
As title says, my meta is now 70% Mono Black Devotion and I did horrid today.
What cards can wreck them?
Cards that give me a hard time:
Desecration Demon
Blood Baron
Opposing Under. Connections
The MANY Kill spells they have.
Rakdos's Return wrecks days. Honestly, that card resolving for anyone's whole hand is just a win unless you're way behind on the board. It's especially effective in Jund as Jund can actually run ways to remove Underworld Connections via Abrupt Decay or Golgari Charm post-board.
I've been getting curb-stomped by Mono-Black Devotion (and similar variants) a fair bit recently - game 1 is 50/50-ish, or even slightly favouring UW mostly because they have a bunch of mostly dead creature removal cards but post-board the number of hand disruption/information effects is very high (Thoughtseize/Duress/Lifebane Zombie). What's the general strategy to power through this?
And that all said, I think the list William Jensen took to second place at GP Dallas/Fort Worth is an all-or-nothing approach - certainly the main deck and virtually all of the sideboard. It seems built to be as resilient as possible to hand disruption in addition to drawing your entire deck. Any changes - take away a Quicken, swap out the Ratchet Bomb, Essence Scatter/Negate for Syncopate, put back the fourth Jace, add another explicit win-con, etc. - and the deck doesn't have that consistency or versatility. Thoughts?
My current list:
4x Experiment One
4x Soldier of the Pantheon
2x Imposing Sovereign
4x Voice of Resurgence
4x Fleecemane Lion
3x Banisher Priest
4x Boon Satyr
4x Call of the Conclave
4x Selesnya Charm
4x Advent of the Wurm
Lands
4x Temple Garden
4x Temple of Plenty
8x Forest
7x Plains
4x Mistcutter Hydra
4x Rootborn Defenses
2x Eidolon of Countless Battles
2x Unflinching Courage
1x Banisher Priest
1x Spear of Heliod
1x Skylasher

+1 Golgari Charm
Against UW Control
-2 Polukranos
-3 Scavenging Ooze
-1 Mizzium Mortars
-1 Dreadbore
-1 Abrupt Decay
-1 Hero's Downfall

Are you going to the PTQ in Madison?

Speaking of mana though Xenagos, the Reveler's +1 is super good in this deck as it fuels monstrous and Rakdos's Return.
I think I'd most likely take out the one of Dreadbore as that still leaves the deck with nine removal spells MB which is plenty.
This list should be pretty good against mono-black. /: Perhaps you've just been unlucky with it. Maybe just keep at it and see if it gets better?

They've been at $20ish for the past year and I doubt they'll spike up to much more than that. If I were you I'd sell now if you're not using them.
What list are you currently running?
