How do you feel Unearth being paired with High Priest of Penance?
Perhaps I am reaching. In a deck that has a great way to clear boards, why use them? I figure it would be for more pinpoint removal that the deck can't touch, such as opposing enchantments, artifacts, and lands that can run rampant on casual tables. They could also be paired with crypt rats to make a pseudo pestilence deck type.
Anyone given this a try?
You could even do a "pestilence" deck without Pestilence at all. Something like:
With Faithless Looting and saclands it's easy to get threshold, and it's a draw 3 with minor drawback since we got Past in Flames. And it can generate U which goes great with Preordain/Ponder
@CadaverousBl00m
Sure Fiery Gambit is a great finisher, but it only works with Krark's Thumb, otherwise it mostly becomes a 2R: flip a coin and maybe deal 3 dmg. If you want to get the full effect without thumb the chance is 12,5% to get three consecutive wins. On the other hand if you have 2 thumb in play it goes to 82,39%. So I don't know if playing a full set would be worth. Plus, this effect seems more fair on the late game, it just feels too unfair getting it early, so I think 3 is good.
@Kalynis Chance Encounter and win the game cards call too much attention for a not so good effect. By the time you get 10 counters on it everybody will have smashed you. Same goes for Goblin Bomb.
Now Goblin Kaboomist is just so good that I'm thinking running 4 of them. The tokens remain in play even if it dies, so basically you have a very strong rattlesnake that just keep growing every turn.
So, it's for casual kitchen table multiplayer play, mostly for the fun than for efficiency. The idea is to use red randomness and abuse it with Krark's Thumb and Goblin Bookie. I know Planar Chaos is kinda bad because it stalls the game, but that way you can gather enough mana to cast the really fun cards like Grip of Chaos, Risky Move and Tide of War.
I don't know if Blood Artist will work with Pestilence because it pings 1 damage per activation, killing it on the first damage. In order to make it really useful you'd have to use Crypt Rats (or something like Infest).
What do you think about suicidal removals like Vendetta or Ashes to Ashes? I like them a lot, but maybe it's a bit too much to use on a Pestilence deck.
If you use some targeted discard like Ravenous Rats or Hymn to Tourach it doesn't go nuts. I think Duress goes great, because then you eliminate one threat from the opponent and draw a card, not so ultra overpowered but nice nonetheless
Yeah, actually this deck originally used Withering Wisps instead of Pestilence, but snow lands are sooooo overpriced where I live that I changed back to Pestilence. At least with Pestilence I can fetch it using Dimir House Guard so it's not that bad.
Dread is a great card indeed. I think it's just my preference using Avatar of Woe, they are somewhat similar for this deck purpose.
Isn't Circle of Affliction better than Treacherous Link? I mean in the late game it does almost the same thing (kill your opponent without killing yourself). In my opinion circle is more versatile, it's harder to remove and can even be used earlier against the opponent's color to save some early damage. I'm considering running 2 Circle of Affliction to see if it's worth.
And what about Blood Artist? Does his ability trigger when we wipe out the board? If so he could be the replacement for Orzhov Euthanist in my build. In multiplayer it's not so hard to kill 6+ creatures with Pestilence in one swing, so it could be worth it.
You could even do a "pestilence" deck without Pestilence at all. Something like:
4x Amoeboid Changeling
1x Crookclaw Elder
4x Imagecrafter
2x Keeper of the Nine Gales
2x Mistform Stalker
4x Mistform Warchief
3x Riptide Biologist
1x Riptide Director
2x Barren Moor
8x Island
2x Lonely Sandbar
1x Salt Marsh
7x Swamp
2x Tainted Isle
Enchantment (4)
4x Engineered Plague
2x Artificial Evolution
3x Misery Charm
2x Trickery Charm
Sorcery (6)
3x Endemic Plague
1x Extinction
2x Peer Pressure
Any thougts?
Good luck trying to combo
There is a lowland stompy thread on legacy forums, you might check that out:

With this you have 12 enablers for superion and it would be easy to get him on turn 3 and maybe a wurmcoil on turn 4.
And with:
It's possible to infinite draw. The good side is that diviner works even without pili-pala, so it's worth testing
With Faithless Looting and saclands it's easy to get threshold, and it's a draw 3 with minor drawback since we got Past in Flames. And it can generate U which goes great with Preordain/Ponder
4x Flagstones of Trokair
10x Plains
4x Remote Farm
4x Ruins of Trokair
2x Enlightened Tutor
Creature (16)
4x Glowrider
4x Serra Avenger
4x Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
4x Mother of Runes
4x Sphere of Resistance
4x Thorn of Amethyst
Sorcery (8)
4x Armageddon
4x Balance
4x Limited Resources
So basically on multiplayer it's very strong since you get maximum of Limited Resources

@adambelcher88
I don't think splashing blue would be good, because you have some pretty strict mana cards like Game of Chaos, Risky Move and Puppet's Verdict. Besides, Ral Zarek also calls too much attention to be a slower Fiery Gambit.
Now Goblin Kaboomist is just so good that I'm thinking running 4 of them. The tokens remain in play even if it dies, so basically you have a very strong rattlesnake that just keep growing every turn.
1x Grip of Chaos
1x Impulsive Maneuvers
4x Planar Chaos

1x Goblin Archaeologist
4x Goblin Bookie
2x Goblin Kaboomist
3x Mogg Assassin
4x Krark's Thumb
1x Mirror Gallery
Sorcery (6)
3x Fiery Gambit
2x Game of Chaos
1x Strategy, Schmategy
Instant (6)
4x Goblin Tutor
2x Puppet's Verdict
Any thoughts?
Something like this

I'm a little worried about the creature count, because effectively there's only 11 creatures that can hit before Pestilence

I'm really fond of Unearth on MBC decks, 1 mana to get back your Crypt Rats or Cemetery Gate seems just beatiful.
But honestly, you can't have the perfect deck that is good against combo, control, aggro, multiplayer, 2v2 and everything.
If you use some targeted discard like Ravenous Rats or Hymn to Tourach it doesn't go nuts. I think Duress goes great, because then you eliminate one threat from the opponent and draw a card, not so ultra overpowered but nice nonetheless
