posted a message on Does Tibalt Cosmic Impostor exile itself (at 8 loyalty)
    Quote from fillasophy »
If I control a Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor with 8 loyalty counters, then activate its -8 ability, its number of loyalty counters would go down to 0 and thus it would go to my graveyard as a state-based action prior to the resolution of the ability, correct?

    Correct.

If so and nothing interferes, the resolution of its ability would then exile its own card (since it's in the graveyard as the ability resolves), and then the emblem it gave me would allow me to cast it once again... am I understanding that correctly?

Yes. The emblem works even after Tibalt has left the battlefield, and sees that Tibalt has exiled itself, allowing you to recast Tibalt.

posted a message on Day/Night same as original werewolf mechanic?
Also, the original werewolf mechanic cares about all players: the human-werewolf side transforms if no player at all cast any spell during a turn, and the just-werewolf side transforms if any player casts two or more spells in any turn.

The new mechanic cares only about how many spells the active player casts. Spells cast by other players during your turn don't count either way.

And, as already said, being night or day is a "trait" of the game itself. The old mechanic is tracked by each card individually.

Let's say it's my turn, I cast a Village Ironsmith and pass.
During the opponent's turn, neither them nor I cast any spells. I have a Shock in hand, but I don't cast it because I want the werewolf to transform.
Now, it's my turn again. During the upkeep the Ironsmith transforms into Ironfang. Then, during my main phase I cast Breakneck Rider. He doesn't enter as Neck Breaker. And I still won't cast Shock, because then it would be a second spell and my Ironfang would return to Ironsmith!

Now let's use the new cards.
During my turn, I cast a Kessig Naturalist. It is the first card to care about night/day this game, so it becomes day. I then pass.
During the opponent's turn, they don't cast any spells. I cast a Play with Fire on them safely.
Now, it's my turn again, and it becomes night. Naturalist immediately transforms into its nightbound side. I then cast a Harvesttide Infiltrator, and it does enter the battlefield on its nightbound side!

posted a message on God-Eternal Kefnet and Magecraft
Kefnet does not copy a spell. He copies a card from your hand. And then he allows you to cast that copy. Casting that copy counts for Magecraft, but creating the copy doesn't, because the card you drew and revealed was not a spell on the stack.

posted a message on Necromantic Selection and creature that reshuffle themselves in graveyard
The different wordings do matter here.

Progenitus has a static ability with a replacement effect ("if X would happen, Y happens instead"). It applies at the moment Progenitus would be put on the graveyard: it goes to the library instead. This means Progenitus is not, at any point, actually on the graveyard. So it was not a creature card that was "put into a graveyard this way" for Selection.

Kozilek, on the other hand, has a regular triggered ability that uses the stack ("when X happens, Y also happens"). This means Kozilek first do goes onto the graveyard, then its ability triggers. The ability can't even be put on the stack while Necromantic Selection is still resolving, so Kozilek is still on the graveyard and can be selected and returned to the battlefield. The player still gets to shuffle whatever else is on their graveyard when the ability resolves later, though.

posted a message on Void Winnower and Overloaded Cyclonic Rift (Mana Value)
Player Alvin has Void Winnower on the battlefield.

Can Player Beth cast an overloaded Cyclonic Rift?

Beth can't cast Cyclonic Rift overloaded.

(Does using an alternate cost change the card's mana value?)

    It does not.

Oveloaded Cyclonic Rift is still a Mana Value 2 spell.

posted a message on Dream Devourer + Adventure
You can cast Petty Theft from exile this way, for U. If you do, when Petty Theft resolves it gets exiled (again), this time "on an adventure", and then you can cast it from exile only as Brazen Borrower (for the full cost).

posted a message on Boast Questions
No, it doesn't work, for the same principle that "whenever this attacks" triggers don't work.

A creature that is put on the battlefield attacking is attacking, but it never attacked. You can't activate Boast abilities of creatures Alesha put on the battlefield.

    Reference: Kaldheim release notes

If a creature with a boast ability is put onto the battlefield attacking, it was never declared as an attacker. Its boast ability can't be activated that turn.

posted a message on Companion question
    Quote from The Fluff »
Hi for example, Kaheera, the orphanguard is my chosen companion. First game, pay 3 to get it from the sideboard then cast onto the field, it get killed and put into gy. On the second game is Kaheera shuffled into my deck, or is it back on the sideboard?

It is not part of your deck,

400.11. An object is outside the game if it isn't in any of the game's zones. Outside the game is not a zone.
400.11a. Cards in a player's sideboard are outside the game. See rule 100.4.
400.11b. Some effects bring cards into a game from outside of it. Those cards remain in the game until it ends.

Once the game ends, Kaheera is not part of the game anymore. The actions your performed during that game, such as bringing cards from outside the game to it, don't carry over to the second game.

While not playing a game, what you have is a list of cards that form your deck, and another list of cards that form your sideboard (including Kaheera). But as you are between games in a match, you can use the sideboard to modify the deck, so you may put Kaheera in your deck if you want to.

posted a message on Very specific question regarding the beginning of end step
    It works fine.

Mimic Vat's activated ability sets up a delayed triggered ability that triggers at the beginning of the next end step after the activated ability has resolved. It does use the stack.

So, when the end step begins, the delayed trigger to exile the Trynn-copy, and Trynn-copy's own token-creating ability, both trigger. You can put them on the stack in any order you want. You can also activate Silvar's ability in response to those triggers, sacrificing Trynn.

No matter the order they resolve, all abilities will resolve. Even if Trynn has been exiled or sacrificed, her ability is already on the stack, so the 1/1 token is still created.

posted a message on Cascading with multiple triggers
    Quote from LotusAndAjani »
I know a single block of text is a single ability and can't be responded part way through.

This isn't true for keyword abilities. Multiple keywords in a single line are still multiple separated abilities, not a single one.

    ---

Each instance of Cascade is a separated object on the stack. When one resolves and casts a card that also has Cascade, this new instance of Cascade goes on the stack above the 8 CMC spell and the remaining original Apex Devastatpr cascades.
