Gift of immortality + Medomai the ageless + sacrifice outlet = infinite turns. Annoying casual tables around you for the foreseeable future.

(Edit: although in modern, the flicker cabinet is a two-card combo with medomai.)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but no. Medomai checks to see if you're in an extra turn, rather than the extra turn checking to see if it's the same Medomai that created the extra turn. So it doesn't matter HOW you got it (Lighthouse Chronologist, Temporal Mastery, Medomai himself, or even a Time Walk), and it doesn't matter if it's a new instance of Medomai. If you're in an extra turn, no Medomai can attack :p

Agreed. The hunter is just bad. Most of the time, he will just be a 1/1 - 3/3. If you are sticking that many dudes, you're probably just wining already.

I don't see Gift for weenie decks though. I think its a good way to protect your big dudes, like Archangel of Thune. But a very mana intensive way of doing it. Like in a Azorious Control deck.

Just to point out, he automatically comes in as a 2/2 (since he counts himself), so being a 3/3 only requires 1 other green mana on your permanents (should be pretty damn easy to do). However, I would still agree that it seems quite win more (and a risky one that's vulnerable to boardwipes at that!), since for it to be ACTUALLY big, you really do need a lot of creatures :p

These cards are pretty off-pie, I hope the trend continues so R gets card draw and B FINALLY gets artifact/enchantment destruction.

...How so? The blue one has a siren effect and coastal piracy (both have been previously printed in blue), while deathtouch shows up all over the place on green cards. +1/+1 counters, life gain, damage to flying creatures, and putting cards from your graveyard back into your deck are enormously green effects as well.

Slightly OT, but how do you pronounce "Nylea"?

"Nee-lee-uh" or "Nil-ee-uh" or something else? I'd like to pronounce it right when I windmill slam it.

I actually pronounce it "Ni (as in "eye")-lee-uh." No idea if that's correct or not Slant

OK..I can see this. That is not bad.

OP, yeah, but imo 15 mana (honestly paid) is a reasonable to freaking WIN RIGHT NOW. I feel the real problem w/him is when you cheat him in.

I guess I'd just expect a bit more 'oomph' from a 'God' in MtG. Shrug.

Think of it this way, then: This is the manifestation of the god, rather than the god itself. Kinda like how Greek gods ran around in forms that humans could comprehend, but could become so grand that they instantly killed anyone that saw them instantaneously? I'd imagine that these gods wouldn't really want to kill all of their followers.

is this where Trait Doctoring finally sees play?

Doubtful (and by that I mean it's NOT happening), since after the turn that you cast Trait Doctoring, you would only get to change the devotion color AFTER your attack phase. And that's assuming you'd even hit with the cyphered creature. A good mechanic doesn't make a bad card suddenly good, sadly :p

So I guess the 5/5 for gg that maro hinted about could be the green god, don't know if this has already been mentioned, but it seems right to me. It would normally be an enchantment for gg, but if the devotion is online, it's a 5/5 for gg, what do you guys think?

Really doubt it. He said it was a giant snake; the green god is an Artemis-style huntress (we've seen a couple of pictures of her). It's most likely A) A monstrous creature that becomes a 5/5 after you use monstrous B) A devotion based creature that uses devotion to reduce its casting cost or C) a bestow creature that bestows a smaller value than if it's a creature (maybe a 2/2 uncommon that gets +3/+3 if it isn't an Aura with something like a 5 mana straight cast cost)

I can see this as being a pretty strong tempo card in a UB shell. How does Thassa's scry interact with duskmantle seer and his ability? Another creature to keep in mind when considering devotion isnightveil specter.

Since they're both "beginning of your upkeep", you can choose which one happens first. I definitely plan on dropping a couple of copies of her into my Duskmantle Seer deck since stuff like Augur of Bolas is rotating out

You know, I just realized how well Bident and Thrassa synergize.
    - 3/5 of the way to devotion with just the two cards
    - if Thrassa is turned into a creature, have a 5/5 indestructible creature that you force your enemies to swing into
    - can guarantee a card draw (and damage) for 1U, as long as the creature swinging isn't removed mid attack phase.

...This just makes me REALLY excited to see how the other gods and their artifacts synergize Grin

    So its

    A) Creature Type: God
    B) Cheap: 2U
    C) Is Indestructible
    D) If your devotion (number of blue mana symbols you control) is low, it loses indestructible and becomes a noncreature enchantment.
    E) 5/5, relevant P/T
    F) Has a relevant ability (unblockability) for 1U without needing to be tapped.

So my verdict? All she would need is Hexproof and she would become a 4-turn clock, that is indestructible and easily bypasses your defenses.

    D) is slightly incorrect. It doesn't lose indestructible

This card seems like a solid 2-3 of in EVERY blue deck for the next year. Its a hit for me. I mean its an indestructible enchantment that at worst gets rid of dead draws every turn, and can act as an artful dodge for your finisher, isnt the same CMC as Jace, Ral Zarek or possibly the new blue planeswalker and could become a 5/5?

I just hope the other gods are TOO big and unplayable.

Helio that is pretty win more... this won't see play in legacy at all. It isn't a creature unless you have 5 blue spells on the board. If you have a jace and a counterbalance you are going to win that game 90% of the time without this. Why would you run this over a 3/3 shroud mongoose or delver? You wouldn't. I think its great for standard, and possibly a modern playable.

Just want to point out that it's not that you need 5 blue spells, you need 5 instances of U, so Jace and Counterbalance together WOULD make it into a creature.

To everyone saying the returning mechanic is scry....isn't it actually Chroma rebranded as Devotion....?

There are going to be 2 returning mechanics. One is Devotion, which is Chroma, tweaked slightly to better fit the set. Then there's the second one (which is almost definitely scry) that's just a straight up returning mechanic that "fits the Greek flavor"

That's... not why God would be vaguely inappropriate as a creature type. It's because all deific figures of Magic's past have basically been Angels, Demons, or Avatars. Okay, and Spirits on Kamigawa.

Yeah, I bet that the "god" creatures are almost definitely going to be Avatars and that was just a guess on the OP's part.

Ok, you guys were driving me crazy enough that I actually registered an account. (Speaking of which, hi, nice to meet you all).

To those saying "oh that giant snake Maro teased might be the green god!" This is HIGHLY unlikely. We saw the green god this morning, she's an Artemis-style huntress, not a giant snake. More likely than not, his tease meant one of 3 things:

    1) it's a creature with a higher cast cost, that reduces its cast cost by X colorless mana equal to your devotion to green (would fit with the wording of CAN be cast for GG)
    2) It's a creature with Bestow that has some less than stellar effect (like only giving a small P/T boost) and a higher cast cost than bestow cost on the creature that you enchant with it, so it wants you to cheat the snake onto the field and try to get the creature it's attached to killed. This would be unlikely if we find out that all bestow creatures give their target all of their stats, and nothing less. Unless the snake had some rules text like "as long as ~ isn't an Aura, it gets +3/+3" or something.
    3) It's a smaller creature that has monstrosity, possibly something like a 2/2 with Monstrosity 3.

Also, if what I've seen around the forums is correct, and they're tweaking and renaming one mechanic (chroma -> devotion), and reprinting a second mechanic that is very Greek flavor, I'm more than inclined to believe that this card is real. Scry is extremely Greek flavor (Oracle at Delphi, anyone?), and I can't think of a previous mechanic that fits the Greek better than it.
