Its basically removal. You have it fight a bunch of stuff, it dies, you have it escape again, fight more stuff, it dies again, rinse repeat.Quote from seilaoque »not sure on how to evaluate this.
2BG for a 6/6 body is great.
3 mana at instant speed for it to fight anything is amazing.
the fact that it has no built in way to recover the counters it loses is a BIG letdown.
6/6 for 4 without any evasion at all wouldn't see play in today's standard....
one that loses a ton of power if it ever fights anything relevant or is blocked/burned is also a big drawback.
If I was to bet I'd say this thing is nowhere near good enough for constructed....
but stats are so inflated that I'm not really sure.
I personally hope there is a card that lets you return your exiled cards back into your graveyard (Similar to Pull from Eternity) -

I apologize. It’ll be my last comment on the matter. I just wasn’t aware that Terese Nielsen May very well not have any commissions for this set because of something I feel isn’t related to her work at all or anything she even said or claimed to believe. Only over people assuming her views based on what media outlets want them to believe are her views. That’s absurd. I hope that’s not the case honestly. But that topic needs its own thread I’m sureQuote from DJK3654 »Guys. Guys. GUYS.
******* stop bringing diversity politics into ******* card reveal threads that have absolutely nothing to do with it. Do the mods really have to intervene on every third thread before you just let it go and talk about it somewhere else? What am I saying? Of course they do.
Card seems pretty decent. Compare to Obzedat's Aid. Gets less permanent types, but can get multiple cards at once. -

You just advocated for discrimination (And essentially persecution) of people based solely on their thoughts. Let alone views shared by half the country that voted in its current president. That’s a far cry for a nation founded on the grounds of religious freedom. Which for the record, are also views and thoughts. But far be it for me to convince someone who just supported discrimination of any kind, while somehow claiming the moral high groundQuote from Xeruh »Sure, I'm fine with that. They aren't good views to have. It's also completely legal on top of moral in this case.
As for the US being free I find it more funny than anything that you believe that ever to have been true. Or that somehow what would make the country more free is tolerating intolerance. The only real thing that is up for debate is whether or not she actually holds those views, not if the action is wrong if those are views she holds.
bring Terese Nielsen back to MTG -

So you advocate people losing their jobs or being discriminated against with their job opportunities based on their political views? All in the name of “consequences” for their beliefs? And you believe that makes a free country as long as it isn’t the government conducting the discrimination?Quote from Xeruh »Quote from Tiro of Meletis »
How about you enlighten us all on the “consequences” of having an opinion on your personal twitter account that aligns with half the country.Quote from Xeruh »Freedom of speech is not remotely freedom from consequence.
The consequence, in this case, seems fairly self evident is it not? -

Fog should be like a timewalk, it's only good if you are doing other things with your turn as well as fogging. I guess while Wilderness Reclamation is in standard there might be some value to it because in effect you do get to play it the turn you drop the Reclamation.
That’s... honestly a pretty absurd comparison. If you turn 5 a Time Warp, it may not be the best thing you could do with that card but at least you’re pulling ahead by ramping by one and drawing an extra card before your opponent gets to do anything more. A fog doesn’t prevent your opponent from developing a board, from drawing more cards, any of that. Fog is reactive, Time Warp is proactive.
A 4 mana fog is bad for the same reasons a 4 mana counterspell is bad. -

Kraken Tentacle would have indeed made this card far more elegant and desirable. Good idea. I frankly don’t mind the stats since I imagine it’s to justify the cmc. I can imagine the kraken slowly emerging, unfurling more tentacles with time.Quote from Tormented »I love that this is an anagram of drain (nadir). I love that in addition to the old standbys - mutant ninja turtle, ninja dinosaur pirate, I can now have tentacle faerie. I love that our sea critter tribe gets another low drop (where's my segovian kraken?). But...I agree that the card feels wonky. The tentacles should have been "kraken tentacle" - tentacle is a class like warrior/knight/noble - right? And then...the power and toughness. How would you represent a huge critter that needs to be empowered to be effective? I would have made some game play sacrifice for flavor and make it a 0/5, 1/5 or 0/6 - the answer to which of those potential combinations depending on limited metagame (removal, common power toughness amounts, etc)
but losing the tokens to whelming wave just doesn’t feel right -

I'm not sure it's necessarily worse. Unlike Yawgmoth's Will, cards that enter the graveyard after it comes into play also get escape. This means that you can potentially do some crazy stuff with cards like Lotus Petal or Lion's Eye Diamond (and obviously Black Lotus), if you can keep your graveyard stocked enough.
Yeah the bit that clinches this as potentially busted is the fact that things don't exile going into the graveyard, I had to do a double take on the card when you mentioned it. I can see this doing something nuts in legacy/vintage/EDH though it's potential outside of those formats is probably limited. I say probably because there are always small interactions that can break cards like this in half but as of yet are just unseen (obviously legacy/vintage/EDH it's fairly apparent what those things are but Standard/pioneer/modern less so at the moment.) - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.

I could see white being something like Journey into Nyx, and use Gods and Mortals, since Heliod was a major antagonist of that story.

Also, (and potentially more importantly), unlike Trade Routes, you can cycle away extra copies of the card. Plus, it's on color for Seismic Assault, which could potentially use a card like this, since that deck usually runs a ton of extra lands to make sure it has the necessary fuel for the assault.

While I agree it's a really good card, do note that it only hits for activations on the battlefield, so it's not going to hit street wraith cycling or dredge activations from the yard.
EDIT: Or Ghor-Clan Rampager Bloodrush, for that matter

I think the better comparison would be a red mini-Exhaustion, since neither Rubble nor Exhaustion actually tap the lands down (and both are sorcery speed). Still, a fine card. I'd be quite surprised if this saw play in Modern, but I'd be happy to play this in standard if the right deck pops up for it. Maybe alongside Fevered Visions, since that deck is all about tempo? It seems like there could be a pretty decent list that could be built for UR Fevered Prowess deck (including stuff like soul-scar mage, baral, thermo-alchemist, storm chaser mage, etc) A normal control deck wouldn't find the tempo play of "keep some lands tapped" to be particularly exciting.

...You do realize that what you proposed is a 1 mana, instant speed Divination that will sometimes be used as a better Negate if absolutely necessary?
On the topic of Kefnet himself, I think that he's fine as a potential U finisher. There are serious problems with the viability of blue based control in the current standard format, but considering him in a vacuum, you can drop him mid to late game and still keep up a counter spell, which is a pretty good spot to be in for control. As for the viability of getting to 7 cards in hand, I'm actually a bit surprised that they didn't make him require 6 cards in hand to reflect Hazoret's condition of requiring 1 or fewer cards in hand. However, I also think that with the way that the current set is shaping up, it should be easier to stick 7 cards in hand than people expect, especially since you can use his ability to increase the number of cards in your hand by 2, if necessary. It does seem odd that a God would have an ability that's comparable to a lowly Azure Mage, though...
So... Better than I think people are giving it credit for, but certainly not a crazy good card, and probably not viable in the current meta at all.

Yes, it is. For one thing, they've already got embalm for this set. Two different mechanics that can't be countered would be a very VERY bad idea. Second of all, it lets them play with the idea of multi-typed cards, like creatures that turn into instants or enchantments that turn into sorceries. Also, to a lesser extent, it means that they can do some CMC matters stuff with the cards, due to them having a combined CMC cost. The main issue, though, is that the uncounterable nature of the proposed idea is too much, especially for the context of this block.
