The End of an Era

I think a build interested in utilizing surge will have plenty of one-mana spells to minimize the lost potential in Fall of the Titans.

I feel like I'm pulled several directions here.

There are several choices for the 1-drop. Zurgo Bellstriker, Falkenrath Gorger, Lightning Berserker, and Insolent Neonate all seem viable. I don't think Village Messenger has a place, because we're very likely to untransform it at our opponent's upkeep, leaving its state (mostly the question of whether it will have menace on our turn) up to the opponent. Zurgo and Falkenrath Gorger are fairly similar, but I don't see much use for the Gorger's ability, so I'd rather have Zurgo's extra toughness. Berserker's firebreathing is potentially very nice.
I chose the Insolent Neonate for a few reasons. It has built-in evasion, and the second ability gives us a guaranteed way to transform a Skin Invasion, or simply trade any dead card for a new draw at the cost of 1 power on the board. It can also pitch Geistblast.

The 2-slot, I filled with Stormchaser Mage and Abbot of Keral Keep, neither of which I think need further discussion. I don't think that Elusive Spellfist, Sanguinary Mage, or Stratus Dancer compare, and I don't want to overfill this spot on the curve. Jace, Vryn's Prodigy, and to a lesser extent Thing in the Ice, are out of my decklist for budget reasons.

At 3, I have Sin Prodder. Other tempting cards here are Jori En, Ruin Diver, and Chandra, Fire of Kaladesh. I like that Sin Prodder guarantees me either extra cards or extra damage, and has evasion to boot. Jori En will probably get me cards, but likely later than Sin Prodder, and has no evasion and flipped P/T. Chandra may well be viable, with 18 1-mana red spells in the list (counting an emergency Fall of the Titans for zero).

I've built with a heavy focus to continually digging deeper into the deck. Six cantrips evenly split between Slip Through Space and Expedite, four scries on Titan's Strength, the temp draws on Abbot of Keral Keep, and the option of drawing through Insolent Neonate.

There's certainly a weakness in this build of removal. Surging Fall of the Titans is really the best option, but Geistblast may play a role, and Skin Invasion might be used to force a bad attack in a pinch. Fortunately, most of our creatures, except Abbot and Skin Shedder, have evasion, even without Slip Through Space. The biggest risk from the lack of evasion, then, probably stems from Jace, Vryn's Prodigy and other aggressive decks that can front enough of a presence to shut down menace.

Perhaps my biggest concern is the mana base. While my list is heavily red, I do very much want blue, and the duals available are somewhat lacking. After Shivan Reef, the only choices are Highland Lake and Wandering Fumarole. I wrote in two of the former, though I don't expect it to matter much (with Fumarole's high cost), and I worry about investing in any more taplands.

I think any deck in these colors should consider Geistblast.

Fair, and good to keep in mind during future edits. Personally, I'm absolutely no stickler for typography; I would happily butcher all of the various dashes and apostrophes for the sake of easy typing on a standard US keyboard. =)

I'm thinking to give this through the weekend so that anyone with late ideas or adjustments can get those in.

Unless anyone objects or a deal-breaker comes up, I'll copy it over Monday evening, around 4PM UTC-8.

Now that it displays properly on my phone, it's got my okay. It's not perfect - the mobile extension is actually unwrapping the main-page-chunks and extracting their contents. Setting them to be hidden on mobile gets rid of the odd left-over empty colored boxes, while leaving their contents in place. And it nicely removes the entirety of the "Start here" chunk.

If anyone else has a goal to complete before we push this live, speak up!

Flexbox widths fixed. I'd set them up poorly when I was experimenting with them at first. With how they're set now, the flexbox-item-header template is technically more explicit than necessary, but old don't-trust-browser-implementation instincts are telling me to leave it as is.

The change did alter the spacing between elements slightly, now that the flexboxes are exercising their smarts. Feel free to tweak.

I can look into that this evening, but that doesn't sound right. I'm also seeing that the layout is pretty wrecked on my phone, and I think I can resolve that easily.

I agree, Metagame is the portal furthest from completion. Most of what I'd imagined going into it has been assimilated by other categories, leaving only the task of creating a historical record of the decks being played in each format with each season. That's a lot of work, and without someone dedicated to it, I doubt it's worth starting right now.

As far as a third column on Organized Play, that could certainly work, but it should be said that there's no obligation to use the same layout for each portal. Compare, Geography, History, and Science. As long as the layout allows for the core components, they can be reshaped at will.

And I like the idea of cutting it to three portals and launching it.

Uh, yeah, that's my bad. I meant to fix those. Will when I get home.

They're really part of box-header, iirc. Flexbox is just for evenly spaced elements.

Production portal, in my mind, collects articles for all of the WotC staff and artists, the stages of design, the eras of design, just about any topic Maro has written about in his Nuts and Bolts and "Designing Setname" articles, design skeletons, as-fan, quick pointing, the FFL, the Storm Scale, subpages on individual set design stories, playtest stickers, pre-Alpha playtest cards, Unglued 2 and unprinted mechanics, misprints, the Reserved List, printing and publishing companies, print sheet math (lies right on the border between product and production).

Off the top of my head.

    That's fair!

Wikipedia has a nice tutorial to introduce new editors, but at its simplest, just click the "Edit" link in the top-right corner of any article you want to improve. On most pages, you'll find that most of the article is written almost entirely in plain text, with a little bit of wikicode to style it and to link citations. Wikicode is a bit like Markdown, if you know that. Wikipedia explains it in full, but briefly: two apostrophes make italics, or three for bold; two or more equals signs surrounding a phrase to make a heading; and square brackets to link to other pages.

To link to another page on the wiki is very easy. Just type the article's name in a pair of double square brackets, like so: Urza. If the link comes out in red, that means the page doesn't exist (after the first letter, capitalization does matter: Magic: The Gathering is an article, but Magic: The gathering is not). If you want the visible text to be something other than the name of the article you're linking to, use a pipe character, as follows. Note that Ice Age would link to the set of the same name - wherever multiple things have the same name, some of them end up with parenthetical identifiers.
The Brothers' War was when a rude dude and his cool bro caused an Ice Age.

The last big thing to know is about adding citations. You've probably read enough wikis to have a good feel for when they should be added to the text, but to be sure, you should definitely cite any statement that seems contentious or questionable. As an aside, questionable or not, articles should contain only verifiable information, not "original research", and this is definitely an issue with some of our older articles. That said, to actually add a citation, the most basic syntax is to just write a bunch of bibliographical information wrapped in

For convenience, we've got a few templates to help with citing common web sources, like the Mothership, or one of the official Tumblr accounts. Just copy/paste the appropriate chunk of code and replace the bits as needed - still wrap them in

I hope that's enough to get you started! If you have any questions, feel free to bring them by our subforum, the community portal, or my own talk page on the wiki. Oh, and please be signed in on the wiki. It's much easier to talk when you've got a name rather than an IP address. =)

It's probably not within our control. I suspect the wiki software is set up to blacklist the Main Page and certain namespaces, like User.

To be clear, I can think of a few methods, some trivial, that would effectively block ads for all users. However, much as I hate ads, I think that's a business decision that goes above our heads. Looking for means of letting the page layout gracefully degrade when ads are present is another story.
