Sep 19, 2015Dragon Tech posted a message on Archive Trap: The World of Zendikar: Part IA few tiny typos here and there, but thoroughly informational overall. Kudos, I hope these articles continue so more of the mewling masses can be indoctrinated into the interesting lore of Magic.Posted in: Articles

Though, Dovin has a particular voice for me: a clear, concise and careful voice that can often just go straight into motormouth when speaking technobabble or laws/rules. That one's my favourite. Also a hint of an accent. Not sure what kind of accent though.
Fumiko the Lowblood and Godo, Bandit Warlord pull their weight, and Heartless Hidetsugu is just broken with infect.
Meloku the Clouded Mirror provides as many landfall triggers as you want, so long as you've got the mana (as well as some other cards [Walking Atlas, Retreat to Coralhelm])
A good deck should be able to function without its win condition, if needs be. A good commander deck should not need to rely upon the commander, unless that's the entire reason for the deck. Even in Godo, I have other big hitters for the voltron package. A solid reanimator deck doesn't need a specific general, aside from colour dictating what cards you can use. Same goes for enchantress, voltron, etc.
Personally, I suggest playing around w/ Spiritcraft. It's a fun mechanic, and works very well when you have enough. You don't need a specific commander, aside from one who gets you access to the right colours (Green and white are the best, black has some useful stuff, blue and red are also good). No matter what colour combination, you can make Spiritcraft work.
compelling eye-candy.Liliana is a pretty simple character: Selfish, afraid of death, shirks responsibilities, doesn't care for the consequences. If Wiz wants me to sympathize with her, they'd better give me something more than a freudian excuse and some shady deals for a backstory. I don't care for her character, I wouldn't be sad if she died, and I wouldn't be likely to miss her. The same goes for the rest of the Gatewatch. I don't find them compelling enough to care for their well-being. None of the current 'walkers are. The non 'walkers, on the other hand, are the single most compelling things in the story for me.
If Wiz starts to flesh out her character more than "Snarky, rude, selfish", then sign me up.
The founding of the Gatewatch (Call the Gatewatch)
One of the Weatherlight crew (Hanna or Gerrard. Maybe Sisay)
The climax of Ravnica block (Kraj and Rakdos kaiju battle royale (Not sure on this one)
The Mirari (Odyssey would be Mirari's Wake. Mirrodin would be Memnarch)
New Phyrexia's victory (Overwhelming Forces? Phyrexian Rebirth?)
Old Phyrexia's defeat (Vindicate or Legacy Weapon would be prime picks. Pernicious Deed too.)
The Phyrexian Invasion of Dominaria (Death Cloud or Damnation could represent Yawgmoth arriving on the plane)
The Brothers' War (Strip Mine is the obvious choice. Or we could add another mass kill spell with Devastation [RIP Argoth])
The Mending (I really don't know. Temporal Cascade? Winds of Change?)
The Conflux (Maelstrom Nexus, Conflux, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker)
The Kami War (ANY of the notable legends (Konda, Lord of Eiganjo, Toshiro Umezawa, Kiku, Hidetsugu, Hisei, That Which Was Taken) in the story.)
The Eldrazi's release (All is Dust, any of the Titans)
Avacyn's return (Terminus? Avacyn, Angel of Hope?)
Sarkhan's Time Travel Boogaloo (Ugin's Nexus, Ugin, the Spirit Dragon, Sarkhan Unbroken, Time Reversal, Reverse the Sands, etc.)
The Chain Veil (either affected individuals [Liliana, Garruk, Kurkesh], or the artifact itself [The Chain Veil])
However, if Wizards started incorporating it into the lore, that might get messy. Suddenly, we'd have all these 'Mysterious Planeswalkers/ Unnamed Planeswalkers' running around. Then the player base wants names, and depictions, and then they become just another known 'walker. There's a reason the canonical Duels 15 story has Jace doing everything you did; it keeps it all neat and tidy, and allows Wizards to continue using their main characters as they wish.
Also, MAGIC had always followed a bunch of the same characters for the longest time. We had Urza, the Weatherlight crew, Karn, Kamahl, Freyalise, Eladamri, Teferi. Then Bolas came back, and the Neowalkers were introduced, and we've arrived at current times. Changing this now would be kinda messy, and people would continually ask "When are we going to see X again?" (More so than they already do).
It's a fine sentiment, to want some kind of actual in-story representation, but it's not the story Wizards wants to tell, at least not right now.
