Hey guys I'm thinking about adding Blade of Selves to my build, and I'm wondering if any of you guys have used it and been successful with it. I'll probably replace Corrupted Grafstone with it if it is useable.

I played a game over the weekend using blade of selves, and it's always extra value out of things that wouldn't normally give you more value. In the game I was playing I put it on Venser, Shaper Savant and used the ETB triggers to continuously disrupt a combo my opponent t was trying to set up. The tokens died immediately, but the damage wasn't the important part of that interaction.

In my opinion, blade of selves deserves a spot in every multiplayer deck because of the added value it gives you from staple creatures such as venser or Baleful Strix.

FNM yesterday i finished 3-2. my list needs some work, but it seems to do well enough.
round 1 2-1 WRB anafenza redcap homebrew
I don't really know how this guy really expected to win, he never once had a land enter untapped as he was using Temples and Checklands without any way to have the checks enter untapped. i beat him senseless game 1. game 2 i couldn't get a cascade spell or enough lands to cast a 3/4. game 3 he tried to use the redcap anafenza combo, but Faerie Macabre saved me from dying to it.

    round 2 1-2 RG Tron
Game 1 he wins by grinding me out with wurmcoils and the like
Game 2 i win the way LE does, by filling my yard and cascading.
game 3 he casts two Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger in a row and there was nothing i could do after that.

    round 3 2-0 Gw treefolk
this was one of my friends that refuses to netdeck so he always shows up with something bad but fun.
game 1 he knew what i was playing so he held his threats until after i cascaded, so i took that opportunity to really load up the yard.
game 2 went the same way as game 1

round 4 2-1 CoCo Chord combo
game 1 he wins via the Angel Combo and swings for a lot
game 2 he dies to variance because he couldn't draw his combo pieces.
game 3 a turn 3 Jund Charm taks out his field, and i decide to take the attrition route to victory. starting with a hardcast Simian Spirit Guide to block his Anafenza, i get the game by casting a Street Wraith and a Monstrous Carabid that he simply could not deal with.

    Round 5 1-2 UG Infect
game 1 I lose to a Spell Pierce when I try to cascade to kill his 10/10 Elf
game 2 i prevent him from landing a second threat to even try to win with.
    game 3 He got a turn 2 that i couldn't deal with.

I'm recently coming back to this deck and i think i am going to try it at GP Detroit.

I mean what the hell does eldrazi do against a turn 3 restore balance that wipes all of there creatures and lands all at once with a gargadon about to come into play?

I'd wager to say that anyone who knows what they are doing, doesn't leave themselves vulnerable like that. holding an eye and a couple mimics could buy you the two turns you need to turn the game around after a restore balance. just chump the gargadon a couple times and try to topdeck well. this is coming from someone who believes that the eldrazi menace is a real issue, and the only way to help the meta adjust is to either ban it's aggressive stuff, or print a hoser that can still be beaten, but not easily.

for context, i'm currently running 8rack with a white splash for sideboard options and Lingering Souls. i run 4 maindeck bridges, and they aren't enough to deal with eldrazi consistently dropping TKS turn 2 before i can drop the bridge i mulled for.

looking over the land disruption for the eldrazi, i think that if you run it you need to consider how often you will lose game one. because if you're on the play Contaminated Ground would be significantly better than Evil Presence. and vice versa. because if you have the advantage of playing first, that allows you to Thoughtsieze them and see what is happening, and determine whether or not you want to use CG on your second turn. but if you draw first, with evil presence, you have the option to blindly shut off whatever land they play, be it Eye of Ugin or Eldrazi Temple. i think that running either contaminated ground or evil presence could be viable, but it really does depend on the result of game one.

We need to think similarly to how the eldrazi deck sould board against infect, because if the eldrazi deck plays first, they'll keep their Chalices and try to play it turn one. but if they draw first, then they board it out to help avoid drawing cards that won't help past the first couple of turns.

Personally, i think that ill try a few Contaminated Ground in the side for a while. im playing modern tonight at my lgs so ill report how it did against the various eldrazi and tron deck that are running rampant in my area.

I would also like to give my two cents about Pack Rat. If you play pack rat on turn two and your opponent doesn't kill it quickly, they are dead four turns later. i cannot emphasize how many times i have played my turn two pack rat for no reason other than to force my opponent to deal with it. against jund, i hold back my bridges until my opponent uses their removal on pack rat because that way my bridges are safer. and sometimes it simple gets the game. i've beaten tron a few times with a turn two pack rat. i am currently running a white splash list for lingering souls and a better sideboard, and i always keep a single pack rat main no matter what. because nothing is more entertaining than watching your opponent get frustrated over a pack rat.

Regarding a potential counter strategy for Eldrazi:
Turn 1: Birds of Paradise / Noble Hierarch
Turn 2: Blood Moon / Magus of the Moon

This would do the trick, right?

that shuts their lands off, but if you concern yourself with only hitting a turn 2 blood moon, you're going to be weaker to the fact that they can simply play another three lands and do a lot of damage. it's similar to playing a blood moon against tron. if you depend on blood moon to do the work for you, you will lose. they can just hit more lands and kill you just the same. and with an even lower curve than tron, depending on blood moon makes it even more laughable for them.

I've been looking into building a deck for my brother who wants to get into magic. He doesn't have much money to spend on magic, so I'm trying to put together a budget dredge style deck for him.

this is the list I have so far, it's based on utilizing dredge to fill the graveyard with creatures to power up Splinterfright.

I already own the fastlands so they aren't an issue.

I don't yet have a sideboard put together, but I'm thinking a bunch of artifact and enchantment removal to help prevent too much graveyard hate from shutting the deck out.

i really appreciate any help with making the deck better, but please be budget about it.

This won't be do-able. By using his money for school, I'd assume he is doing Tafe, or going to a University. Both are expensive and a lot of the time I found my mates who I was going with to Uni were living off 2-minute noodles with no leftover income. Assuming this is the case, the most budget deck I could think of that was tricky and rewards pilot skill was Sacland Tendrils. Tendrils also has 3 builds he can follow, with $200 being the most expensive list, when he could build it for $75 on the cheap.
Because of FoW and Snaps, Solidarity is out of the question in a Uni scenario, and LED for Inquistion is a no go for it's price alone. To help give us a clearer picture, how much can you afford to spend on luxuries during school?

at this point in time, i do not know how much money i have to spend. all i know is that i would be able to accumulate a deck over a period of time. i already have snaps, and i almost have a full set of all the KTK fetches.

and no offense to the Spanish Inquisition, Sacland Tendrils, or Solidarity, but storm decks are pretty boring for me. they all seem to do literally the same thing over and over via their own unique means. i have been testing on cockatrice with SI, and it seems like a good bit of fun, but it doesn't seem like it is for me. i want a deck that is truly convoluted, something that requires immense concentration and thought. i see that SI and Solidarity are moderately hard to play, but they don't seem difficult enough for me.

EDIT: I just had a look at a version of Spanish Inquisition that runs burning wish, and that adds a level of extra thought and difficulty, so I think that deck seems about as right for me as there can be.

Thanks for all the help! I'm going to start slowly building this deck! might take me a long long time, but I'm gonna do it!

I have no experience with legacy at all, and the only competitive experience i have is with modern living twin.

I want to put together a legacy deck just to have one, and i hate simple decks. i thoroughly enjoy playing convoluted decks that are hard to pilot.

i dont have much money to port to legacy due to needing to pay for school. any suggestions?

Weird ruling question, anyone got the answer? If someone companies, and you company in response, then find him, does he negate the other? It doesnt say "cant be cast" but "cant be played" But I assume, it doesnt matter in this situation, the other company still resolves.

It's an outdated wording. if you check the oracle text it does indeed say "can't be cast" but since the other coco was already cast, it would still happen.

Card text aside, I wouldn't play him. he only bothers against noncreature spells, and the majority of threats in modern are, in fact, creatures. he would be very good against Ad Nauseam, and certain control decks that rely on verdict or command, but otherwise he is pretty much dead.

Maybe people should be complaining about scg and not wotc. Scg and the other big stores are who wotc have to keep happy. Those big stores could put a max of 4 on singles bought to keep cards available (not that I would if I were them)

I think that this kind of rule could be useful, but there are people, like me, who purchase multiple playsets of cards so they they dont have to transfer cards between sleeves between games. i agree that there should be some kind of way to make sure that one person can't simply buy the whole supply of the card, but it is simply impractical.

so I justeft a tournament that I participated in. Not going to talk results. I'm going to tell a story.

Round 1. My opponent is playing time walk. I'm playing living twin. I won game 1 with twin. He won game 2 with 5 extra turns and an emrakul.

Game 3. First four turns are really uneventful. I had a decent grave built up, but not one good enough for a kill. With four mana open, I pass the turn. My opponent plays his fifth Snow-Covered Island. He casts Time Warp. I tell him to wait as I laugh to myself and then slam a Ricochet Trap onto the table. I slyly say to him "I'll take that!" The judge next to him realizes what happened before my opponent and he bursts out laughing. My opponent laughs and gives me a high five for the gimmick. End of turn I flash in Deceiver Exarch. I begin my extra turn and cast a Splinter Twin for the game and the round. It made my day and the story spread like wildfire.

four rounds later my opponent asked me if I had heard about the stolen turn.
