Redtwister, I disagree. They have such easy answers for our threats and even when we do land our sideboard bullets, they're only a Bauble draw or Traversing away from an Abrupt Decay or K-Command to put us back in place.

Stabilo and Redtwister and everyone else, what do your sideboards look like these days?

I'm thinking Leyline of Sanctity needs to join our SB soon. Wish there a way to direct burn them in the dome also within our colors (white or colorless). Valorous Stance is looking better and better.

So what is the plan against death's shadow? Haven't won a single Match against it yet. Any suggestions appreciated.. Annoying how they can abrupt decay and kologhans command chalices... I'm almost to the point where it's better to side in more removal and take out the chalices.

Are any of you guys having good luck against it? What's your plan.

    Thanks stabilo!

I also recently won a couple more D&T matches... Mostly against the mono white version with thraben inspectors. I would agree this version is easier to deal with. Do you sideboard in Stony Silence against Merfolk and D&T? I generally don't but have recently which I think helped me win my recent marches against d&t.

Ok now moving on to very low probability hypotheticals, if sfm got unbanned, what would we do about arbiter? What kind of split would you guys go to?

To be precise, after playing 138 competitive matches in MTGO (got a few 4-1's recently so back up to 89-49 65% win rate), here are the creature-based matchups I feel good about that the record backs up:
    -Eldrazi Aggro
-Zoo (the new HIdden Herbalist/Voltaic Brawler versions are a bit tougher than before, but have still managed to win 100% of the matches)
    -Red Deck Wins/Burn
    -Goblins
    -Soul Sisters

The bad creature-based matchups are the following for me:
    -Merfolk
    -Elves
    -Faeries
    -Tokens
    -Spirits
    -Creature Toolbox/Abzan Chord
    -D&T
-Affinity (3-5, it's shaky, but definitely winnable)

The highly synergized, value-based, and interactive decks appear to be tougher for us, but other than that, it's hard for me to pinpoint what makes some of these matchups just so dang unwinnable, but obviously siding in all removal from the board has become a no-brainer. Looking at how Eldrazi White is now starting to pop up in Legacy now, I feel like Stoneforge Mystic would literally push this deck right into Tier 1 overnight, but alas, that'll probably never happen.

    Hi RedTwister,
Yes, exactly that. Merfolk, Spirits, Hatebears/D&T, Elves, the whole lot. Affinity is also not a great matchup though Stony Silence is obviously great. The Abzan/Creature Toolbox Combos are also terrible for me as well.

Death's Shadow I've only played once and lost but I feel like Chalice should put in great work there...we'll see.

I only run one THalia, Heretic Cathar...she doesn't come up too often and if she's not useful, easy to side out.

    Guys,
Haven't been able to play and been in the discussion as much. Currently sitting at 83-47 now in MTGO Leagues & 2-Man Queues (.638 win rate) so have been regressing to a mean somewhat from the days when I think I was sitting at 70% win rate. I've bumped the Spellskites due to the changing meta in favor for the Matter Reshapers and Aven Mindcensor as redtwister suggested. Still doing great against Eldrazi - 12-1 right now, but pretty much auto-losing to every wide creature based strategy. I think shucking up the cash for 2nd and 3rd Horizon Canopies and Cavern of Souls as well as the 4th Chalice of the Void may be necessary.

    Current Build:

    http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/eldrazi-staxes/

Stabilo, you've probably already figured out a lot of these but you asked these a while ago and didn't want to leave you hanging:

Q: How do you SB against Bant Eldrazi? Chalice yes or no?
A: Yes. Shut off Nobles, Ancient Stirrings, Paths, totally keep them in.

Q: How is Smuggler's Copter for you?
A: Ehhh. By the time you guys started talking about Aven Mindcensor and Matter Reshapers, I was more than ready to trade Copter out for either of those 2.

    Q: How is EE?
A: Sounded like you figured this out already but yeah an EE that can realistically only go up to 2 most of the time is more than sufficient to be sideboard-worthy at least for me. I'm glad it's in there and plan to keep it as well.

Crossed the 100 match mark in MTGO Competitive play with this deck! Record is now standing at 72-38, all in MTGO Friendly Leagues or 2-Man Queues. I've been able to basically go quasi-infinite with this deck thanks to the Friendly League Prize Structure (except decided to buy a 3rd Chalice of the Void since I only had 2 before and the Engineered Explosives in the board)...after 2 1-5's in a row though was down to 40 tickets but was able to win 4 2-Man Queues in a row to get back to 80. Probably too much information, but for me this is a big deal ever since MTGO's economy changed to the play points structure it's been a lot harder to do anecdotally for me at least playing mostly traditional D&T and E&T builds. My current build is below:

    http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/eldrazi-staxes/

My thoughts re: match-ups at this point:
-GREAT Match-Ups are: Tron (7-0), Red Deck Wins/Goblins/Burn/Zoo (14-1), Unfair Decks (Ad Nauseam, Reanimator, Eggs, Cheerios, Infect, decks relying on 1 CMC spells)
-GOOD Match-Ups are: Valakut (6-1), Soul Sisters - which used to always be a terrible match-up for D&T/E&T back in the day, but so much more winnable thanks to Chalice and Smasher (4-1), Eldrazi Aggro - this I think is huge because it's Eldrazi Aggro has become the largest part of the meta according to MTGTop8 (10-1 against both Bant and Eldrazi Tron configurations).
-FAIR 50/50 Match-Ups are mostly what you would expect: Jund, Control (UW, Jeskai, UB, Grixis, etc), and Affinity is 50/50 ONLY thanks to the sideboard cards, which brings me to the final point:
-BAD Match-Ups are almost entirely all creature-based strategies that go wide and long. Goblins and Affinity are the only ones I would consider fair or good because of Chalice, Stony Silence and Engineered Explosives plus additional removal we carry. By and large, D&T, Elves, Merfolk (my lone Merfolk win was thanks to a Game 3 win that went to 30+ turns with a Worship on board and a Selfless Spirit and Blinkmoth hitting every turn and Eldrazi Displacer tapping down his lone flying Vendilion Clique), CoCo Chord of Calling (any of the Creature Toolbox decks), Bant Spirits, and Tokens comprise half of my losses. I'm fortunate that with the exception of D&T (1-7 against D&T so roughly 7% of my matches), none of these decks individually comprise a huge part of the MTGO competitive meta. Been following Stabilo's advice to load up on ALL removal which helps, but doesn't really turn the tide yet. The only non-creature based match-up that I would actually say is bad is UR Storm. With Baral and Electromancer they have 8 ways to reduce cost of spells even with Thalia on Board. One match was won by them winning game 1, then game 2 turn 2 Desperate Ritual into a Blood Moon that completely caught me with my pants down. I've seen Storm win through a Rest in Peace as well. I'm 1-3 in this match-up and would like more samples to see if this is truly as bad as it's felt so far as I would imagine this should be a decent match-up.

    My thoughts in general:
-The base as described in Stabilo's Primer is rock solid. I would not mess with any of those at all (Lands: 3 Gemstones, 4 Eldrazi Temples, 4 Ghost Quarters, 4 Plains minimum because Blood Moon can really suck Spells: 4 Simian Spirit Guides, 4 Chalices, 3-4 Thalia 1.0's, 4 Arbiter, 1-2 Thalia 2.0, 4 Displacer, 4 Thought-Knot Seer, 4 Reality Smasher, 3 Dismember)
-With that the main development point for this deck is that the manabase still need to be optimized. I commented on this earlier but even after 100 games I don't know what will give us the extra push. Agree with Stabilo in general the following lands are good and should be considered but in what # I'm never sure about (Cavern, Horizon Canopy, Battlefield Forge because late-game Simians really can be useful sometimes), Mutavault, Blinkmoth Nexus for the flying, Tectonic Edge and Eiganjo Castle). I also wonder if 24 lands is sufficient or if 25 is really the optimal number. 23 is definitely too little while running Ghost Quarters to cast Thought-Knots and Reality Smashers reliably without a Vial.
-From the non-land side of the deck, I think there are 4-5 flex slots TOPS. I have 2 Selfless Spirits, 1 Spellskite, 1 Smuggler's Copter. All have proven useful in match-ups here and there to justify its consideration in the deck (ie. Selfless saving my creatures from Anger of the Gods, Wraths and Verdicts, and negating Oblivion Stone), but there have also been plenty of times where I've wished these cards were something else. This is where I also believe a lot of great discussion still remains to be found.

OK thanks for letting me ramble when I'm jetlagged early in the AM from travel. Hope to hear your thoughts and continued discussion on what's been a really fun deck to play in Modern that doesn't make feel like I've been cheating on my first Modern love of D&T/E&T (maybe that's why I keep losing to them). Thanks again Stabilo for the great innovation!

    Hi Stabilo,
Congrats on the last couple finishes...haven't been able to crack more than a 3-2 recently (currently holding at 48-24.667 win rate).

What do you think is the best turn 1 play in a Game 1 (play and draw) when you have a Thalia/Arbiter/Chalice in hand?

Boom//Bust could be interesting in theory. I think you absolutely need the Reality Smashers though. 100% they are the finishers of this deck and don't get stalled behind chump blockers or lingering souls.

I would cut 2 Selfless Spirit, 2 Thalia 2.0 to see if you can make that work.

I've been playing a very similar list to stabilo's and that is mostly where you want to be. I'm currently 45-21 in League play on MTGO (only 2 5-0's thus far though). There are a few flex slots but deviations anywhere else makes this deck a worse D&T or E&T deck.

I think where the most flexibility lies is in the manabase. Do we add manlands? How many horizon canopies etc.

Jund, the new Ur storm, and BW E&T incidentally are my worst matchups so far. Let me know what you guys are seeing and how you guys combat.

Edit: my current list below (would up the chalice count if it wasn't so expensive... Bought my first 2 at $14 per)

    CatMix,
Like the new build...Aethersphere Harvester was the main takeaway I got from Trophy Mage testing. Overall, I didn't like how heavy-loaded D&T became on the 3-Drops when running Trophy Mage and the results weren't impressive playing the Friendly Leagues).

I've ran through with your updated build (running 1 Smuggler's Copter, 1 Aethersphere Harvester instead and 3 Concealed Courtyard + 1 Aether Hub since I don't own 4, kept the Arbiters - Arbiter 4 Life, and snuck in a Kytheon & Reality Smasher as singletons), but mostly identical. I like how it runs so far. 3-2 in my first league (Affinity still sucks and strangely lost to Mono-Red Burn), going to keep running through a few more times and post my thoughts. Love the whole D&T community for constantly innovating and testing and keeping this thread so active.

That's huge!!! I was working on a build already trying to model it after the Legacy version (with 3 equipment and obviously Trophy replacing Stoneforge), but was having issues figuring out the splits for the cards without getting too 3+drop heavy.

Sigh...Stoneforge seemed OK as everyone and their mom runs Kologhan's Command (Jund, Grixis Control, any deck that has those colors) that's constantly 2 for 1-ing fair decks all around. If anything the existence of Kologhan's Command is the perfect argument for Stoneforge's unbanning. We'll keep up the good fight in the meantime.

All, from playing in MTGO Leagues with Mono-White D&T (my list was posted a few pages back after my first 5-0) - these are the results distribution I am showing (62.3% win percentage in Leagues & 2-Man Queues). The TLDR version is that D&T (the Mono White version) seems really bad against any type of Control (Draw-Go type) and aggro decks like Merfolk, Soul Sisters, Affinity. Are these matchups that improve when playing the BW version? The Tidehollow-Strangler interaction seems legit as well as the Zealous Persecution and Kambal sideboard tech you get. Is it safe to say BW is the best version? What are BW's bad match-ups?

    Hi guys,
Just 5-0ed my first Modern League (Friendly) with this monowhite build. Thought I did great - beating Dredge, UrzaTron 2x, Burn, and Bloomless Titan. Really loved the build, but some questions for my other Monowhite D&T players out there:

    1. Selfless Spirit - is it really that good? I eschewed my Judge's Familiar 1-drops for 2x Selfless Spirits. I noticed many of the BW builds don't even run it at all...is anyone having great success with Selfless Spirit and not wishing it was something else? Only running 3xThalia and wonder if that should be a 4th one instead.
    2. Thalia, Heretic Cathar - Same question? Who is loving this card instead of a Brimaz or something else a bit more aggressive? And why?

Excited to be playing D&T again...a long-time favorite but been out of MTGO for a while.

Agree with DHCell, the Puresteel Paladin build is most competitive in my opinion. I built a monowhite vial version went 8-8 in the Mtgo Modern Constructed leagues and 2-man queues. The Puresteel version is currently 10-5 so I'm sticking with that one for now on Mtgo. Instead of steelshapers gift and Worship, I opted for 4 vials instead. Lands at 4 Caverns, 1 Mutavault, 2 Tectonic Edges. Threw in an infiltration lens instead of bladed bracers also but otherwise same build. Pleasantly surprised with how the deck is working and recommend people give it a shot.

    @cloud030

A minimum of 12 flyers is what I would recommend. In my list that's gone 4-1 twice and a 3-2 finish in the League's (all of the losses were to eldrazi or the new uw control builds sprouting up), I run 12 flyers (4 Flickerwisp, 2 Serra Avengers, 1 Aven Mindcensor, 3 Lingering Souls, 2 Blinkmoth). The great thing is that Magus of the moat buys you so much time that you can actually just draw topdeck into it. But 12 is bare minimum as there were definitely times we just sat in a stalemate waiting for me to draw my flyers. I'm sure with cat mixes build of 16 flyers should be much less frequent.

What's your take on eldrazi Displacer, DeathandCatmix? I've noticed none of your builds run them. I'm running one in my bw build but may change to 1x resto angel since I run 3x Magus of the moat in the sb and may need the flyers.

Is it crazy to maybe run Magus of the moat as a 1x main???? That's how impressed ibe been with it playing in the modern leagues. Doesn't do much against affinity but does a lot against the decks it's very good against. By the time it comes out, most opponents have already burned their removal on thalias, tidehollow, arbiters etc.

DeathandCatmix, I gotta say Magus of the Moat is an absolute house from the SB. Love that tech. I'm running 3 in the SB and roflstomping merfolk, allies, kiki chord/Creature toolbox variants. Helped me win a lot of matches I had zero business winning in the modern leagues. Gone 4-1 a few times now hoping to get a 5-0 finish soon.

Thanks guys! Appreciate the encouragement. Just frustrating when I feel like I have a pretty good list, decent plays, and match ups against an extremely wide field of decks but then pretty much auto lose to the deck that conveniently has become an obscenely huge part of the meta. I remember so many of us saying how well positioned we were after the twin bans only for eldrazi to ruin the fun!

Here is the list from my 5-0 2 days ago in the MTGO League against a diverse set of decks but once again was my first League where I did not encounter Eldrazi deck...

@Deathandcatmix - Thank you, very helpful information! Hopefully SoI we will see some banhammer action. I think the BW Build is a fantastic way to go for D&T and is a great match-up for the rest of the format as I saw in my 3 league entries. The Eldrazi deck is near hopeless in my testing responsible for 3 of my 4 losses across the 15 matches. Tidehollow helps (I run 3x), but every card they draw is the beats. Their topdeck is better than ours in most cases even when you have a stalled board. Even after my 5-0 with a BW build, I am thinking of switching to a RW build that runs 3x Magus of the Moon, 1x Phyrexian Metamorph, 2x Wall of Resurgence (credit to @Deathandcatmix of course) and 2x Crumble to Dusts in the SB tho I'm not even sure how effective that is if they get a solid opener...

Does anyone know when the soonest Eye of Ugin or Eldrazi Temple can get banned by WOTC? Like how often do they do ban announcements?

I played in the Modern League on MTGO several times this past week, getting 3-2, 3-2, and finally a 5-0 (running BW D&T - similar to the other BW builds, but I run a main-deck 1x Infiltration Lens, 2x Lingering Souls, 1x Zealous Persecution, and 1x Kytheon). I noticed my 5-0 stint was the only League where I did NOT encounter any Eldrazi decks the whole time and therefore had a chance to actually win games. Smile The Eldrazi deck is such a menace and really hard to stop. Not being salty, just curious what the realistic timelines are for WOTC to do something if they were going to...

Agreed. Played in a few queues on MTGO today. Currently 2-2 against Eldrazi decks...1 win against the Eldrazi Control version (the slow one with Blight Herder and Oblivion Sower) so effectively 1-2 against the Eldrazi Aggro version that's much faster that cleaned up at the PTQ. This deck is incredibly hard to beat and also anticipating a ban. I play the BW version that has Tidehollow Sculler 4x which helps A TON in that match-up, but NOTHING stops SSG + Eye of Ugin/Eldrazi Temple on T1 or T2 into Thought Knot or Reality Smasher...1 guy's Turn 1 play was Eye of Ugin into 2 Endless One's at 2/2. I played a T1 Vial with only 3 drops in hand so got smashed for 8 before I could do anything or put anyone on the board while he advanced into Thought Knot Seers...was just so lost.

Wall of Resurgence is looking very very good these days...just picked up 4x - thanks for the tip, DNC!!!

    Hey guys,
So finally had a chance to test out the RW D&T build (see below) today and went 3-1 beating 8-Rack, Red Deck Wins, and the Eldrazi Control only losing to Utopia Sprawl/Emrakul/Overgrowth deck. Didn't take any great notes, but few things that stood out - putting this to tournament level practice:
-Magus of the Moon maindeck is actually a HOSS and probably the only way I beat Eldrazi Control deck. How is everyone else faring vs the new onslaught of Eldrazi Control?
-Kiki Jiki combo only happened I think twice the entire time but definitely helped me win games out of nowhere. Kiki was still useful in other ways by adding tons of value to Blade Splicers, Flickerwisps, and Finks. Was even able to get through Lingering Souls by hard casting Flickerwisp + Vial-ing in Kiki and having another Flickerwisp token take out any Lingering Souls to get through the final points of damage with everyone else attacking on the board. Wish Kiki could copy a Mangara, but realized Mangara is legend.
-Mangara 1 of is perfect. I know he's mostly fallen out of favor but even running only 6 flicker effects, he still was extremely disruptive everytime he popped out. When he was good, he was VERY good.
-# of Bolts and Helixes were just fine in the deck and Helixes life gain was useful and helped me beat Red Deck Wins on Game 1. I plan to cut one Bolt for Eldrazi Displacer as a 1x in the deck, which still leaves me with 7 sources of removal instead of 8 currently (3 Paths, 3 Bolts, 2 Helixes).

    Creatures:
    2 Figure of Destiny
    4 Leonin Arbiter
    3 Thalia Guardian of Thraben
    2 Flickerwisp
    2 Blade Splicer

    4 Sacred Foundry
    6 Plains
    3 Flooded Strand
    4 Ghost Quarter
    2 Tectonic Edge

    Hey all
Now that it's been a few days since Oath came out, how is Eldrazi Displacer performing for everyone? Has this become a D&T staple hands down as a 1,2,3-of? What are everyone's thoughts? Everything cracked up to be and more or underwhelming in real life? Just saw the Erik Townsend list running 2x Eldrazi Displacer so was curious!

    Hi all,
Finally bit the bullet and got my d&t decks on MTGO. Still getting the hang of Mtgo new version but would love to be able to test with the community here. My username is bmchu168. Hit me up - I have a bw and rw version - would love to see what you guys are working with!

QQ for BW players, what is the right turn 1 play when your opener has inquisition and Aether Vial? I can see arguments for both but don't have all the cards in the bw deck so have never playtested.

Do you know what your opponent is playing? If so does that deck have a one or two drop (depending if your on the play or draw) that you need to hit? Then play discard then vial. If you don't know what your opponent is on look at your hand. Do you have multiple options turn two that additional information can help you decide what's the right play? Then discard. Is your hand full of threes like Flicker and reliant on the value provided by vial? Than play vial.

Sadly it's not a............ black and white answer.

Badum chi. Ha-ha thanks. Yeah figured as much, I guess most confusing is what you do game 1 with no information but yes I guess best to see what best synergizes the rest of your hand.

Quick question to everyone - what is the right way to play Kytheon in D&T? Do we ever want to drop him T1? Seems like he's virtually guaranteed to just be a Savannah Lion in that case. For those of you who have run him, what are the usual interactions you see with him? How does he end up working in this deck? We dont' have token generators except for 4 Blade Splicers but by the time they are online Kytheon becomes like a T4 play and I doubt he survives T1-3, I may be completely wrong though so would love yall's thoughts. Thinking of squeezing him in as a 1x.

Kiki-Jiki is 3 red mana in his 5 CMC. I agree with what someone said earlier, this idea might be better off as a "Oh Hey Look, just Drew 1 of 2 Kiki's in my deck with a Resto on the board - I win" but I want to test it either way. I am going to LGS tournament tomorrow so will provide report then. The manabase is rough to cast a 3 red mana Kiki. The only way I hardcast him is either: 1. Vial him in 2. Luck with drawing my lands 3. Magus of the Moon acting as an enabler turning my nonbasics into Mountains. That said, I'm still able to get him out more so than not. In playtesting live (quit MTGO a while back), it definitely helps you win games you had no business winning and can get through a lot of the times because even midrange decks have used up a lot of their removal on Arbiters, Thalia's and Magus's so by the time Resto + Kiki comes online - it can actually get through.

Still struggling to fill my 2x 1-drop slots...got Vexing Devil in there currently, but I really liked that Alesha Who Smiles at Death card so want my 1 drop to at least some have synergy with her now.

LtGlitter - Elspeth Knight Errant could be great in SB and worthy replacement over Leyline. I've noticed most recent D&T lists no longer include Leylines in their SBs - back in the day, used to be always be a 2 of in the SB. Willing to go down to 2 Kiki's as multiples sitting in your hand does suck. Still trying to figure out right mix of instants/removal...when is too many lightning bolts and paths ever a bad thing? Smile

dsmonsta - I guess obviously people can tell I do not play Standard because if I did, how the heck did this card escape my gaze??? Definitely finding a way to add this!

ThirdDegree - I will say my manabase is definitely a little muddled, but no more so than the BW build and it can work. The fetches can easily be played around with Arbiter. They could easily be Clifftop Retreats though and the reason they are not is because the fetches help me make sure I keep a Plains on the field if I'm about to drop a Magus on some folks. The hard part about Magus is how awesome she is, but then plenty of other times when you wish desperately she was some kind of a 3-drop beater instead (Blade Splicer, Crusader, Brimaz, even). When she's working she's awesome but when she's not - you notice how much you wish she was a Flickerwisp, Blade Splicer, Crusader or any of the 3-drops found in the traditional WW builds.

This is all great feedback - need to pick up some Alesha's before Thursday!

    Hi guys,
Long-time lurker here. Been playing D&T for 3+ years now though. I have been trying to innovate a RW D&T build that lets us win with alternative win-con of Kiki-Jiki and Resto Angel (with all of the value creatures) underneath. I've got a few specific questions, but wanted to share the build first:

    Creatures - 25
    3 Vexing Devil
    4 Leonin Arbiter
    3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
    2 Blade Splicer
    3 Magus of the Moon
    1 Flickerwisp
    2 Kitchen Finks
    4 Restoration Angel
    3 Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker
    Artifacts - 4
    4 Aether Vial
    Instants - 8
    3 Path to Exile
    3 Lightning Bolt
    2 Lightning Helix
    Lands - 23
    3 Windswept Heath
    4 Sacred Foundry
    6 Plains
    1 Mountain
    2 Clifftop Retreat
    1 Eiganjo Castle
    4 Ghost Quarter
    2 Tectonic Edge
    Sideboard
    2 Rending Volley
    2 Celestial Purge
    2 Mirran Crusader
    2 Stony Silence
    2 Kataki, War's Wage
    2 Kor Firewalker
    1 Leyline of Sanctity
    2 Spellskite

I would really like feedback from the folks re: the following:
-With the addition of red, what 1-drop creatures would you guys put into a D&T build? Goblin Guide is terrible in a mana denial, resource restriction strategy. Grim Lavamancer may not have enough fuel. With Red in the mix, would you guys still run Dryad Militant? I'm running Vexing Devil because when I ran traditional D&T builds Dryad Militant may get through 1x or 2x at most, which is the same as the sacrifice price.
-Do I have enough value creatures to even be running 1xFlickerwisp + 4x Restoration Angels? I think the Flickerwisp can probably be substituted with a beater (Blade Splicer) or another hatebear (Vryn Wingmare or Aven Mindcensor). As the manabase is a little shaky, there are definitely times when I don't have double white mana to pay on turn 3 so am thinking of casting away Flickerwisp for some other 3-drop without the double-white. Having trouble doing this since I know how AWESOME Flickerwisp is and essential to the WW traditional builds to this deck.

Any thoughts would be great. Been doing a lot of playtesting but plan to take it to LGS Modern night (20-30 players on avg) this Thursday. Will report back.

Streetmage, all fair points about Lodestone. I didn't share my sb in my original post but I do run 2 Lodestone Golems and 2 Thorn of Amethyst which are both very good when they are good. A Storm player scooped a game against me when I got Lodestone out and Familiar.

Nice videos thank you for sharing. I don't play MTGO but would love to share my lgs matches with yall.

How does your deck perform against the field? You've got more lower cost drops with good synergy and less threats/bombs on the high end so I'm inclined to think your matchups may be slightly different than mine. Looks like you've got a mono blue aggro strategy with good disruption and less closers on the high end. How are you liking it?

Just posted this on a similar thread earlier but hope it helps:
big fan of the archetype and love Modern also. I've had a reasonable amount of success with the following deck on the small local game store scene - don't see this taking down a PTQ anytime soon, but you'd be surprised with the results:

    Decklist:
    2 Judge's Familiar
    2 Spellskite
    2 Perilous Myr
    2 Etherium Sculptor
    2 Chief Engineer
    4 Grand Architect
    2 Treasure Mage
    1 Master Transmuter
    3 Kuldotha Forgemaster
    1 Batterskull
    2 Wurmcoil Engine
    1 Steel Hellkite
    1 Duplicant
    1 Platinum Angel
    1 Sundering Titan
    1 Blightsteel Colossus
    1 Chalice of the Void
    4 Expedition Map
    3 Aether Vial
    1 Lightning Greaves
    1 Dismember
    4 Urza's Power Plant
    4 Urza's Tower
    4 Urza's Mine
    6 Island
    2 Cavern of Souls
    2 Tectonic Edge

This deck is surprisingly versatile as you have multiple ways to pump out fatties - 1. assembling Urza Tron 2. Etherium Sculptor, Chief Engineer, Grand Architect 3. Master Transmuter/Kuldotha Forgemaster. It's versatile also in that stopping Urza Tron doesn't stop us from getting the fatties out as we still have 2 other packages to run them out.

We run mostly the same heavy hitters as Legacy Mud (Platinum Angel instead of Platinum Emperion, Wurmcoil, Sundering Titan, Steel Hellkite, Blightsteel Colossus). The Perilous Myr is a strange choice, but the reasoning behind is that is gives an additional form of quasi-removal (especially if Vial-ed in), killing up to 3 toughness creatures, small synergy with Kuldotha Forgemaster, and is honestly a chump blocker against much faster decks than ours giving even the slightest hesitation to attack into it that can buy us time and turns to get going.

The deck interacts with others with 2 Spellskites main, 2 Judge's Familiars, 1 Chalice. Removal is limited to the 1 Duplicant, 2 Perilous Myrs, 1 Dismember, and 1 Steel Hellkite. Everything else is devoted to a Tron type strategy of getting the big creatures out to win the game.

From my testing, I've beaten the following decks pretty handily and consistently:
    -GW and WW Hatebears
    -UWR Midrange or Control
-Skred (yeah yeah not that popular of a deck)
    -Grixis Delver

Basically this deck matches up really well with non-combo/fair decks, the sideboard could probably be optimized for our weak spots. I'm stoked to see others are interested in finding a way to port this into Modern. It's pretty difficult to do this without just going into Tron or something else entirely, but after a lot of refining, this is what I've come up with - if you have the cards, sleeve it up I think you'll be very surprised at how quickly you can dump out your entire hand with this.

Lodestone is too slow. My first iterations of the deck always had the 4xLodestone Golem as its such an important part of the Legacy version. It tested horribly to be very honest. It would come down turn 3-4 and be nothing more than a slight nuisance to opposing decks. Zoo or burn decks didn't give a crap about him. 63% of all modern decks have lightning bolts. He really was better substituted with spellskite and perilous myr which are much more useful. Spellskite comes down turn 2 and is basically a wall for zoo and shuts down twin, boggles, infect and acts as another lightning greaves in a way by protecting your big threats. Perilous myr also comes down turn 2 and can at least chump and trade against anything up to toughness 3....heck perilous myr can kill a lodestone golem.

posted a message on [Idea] Grand Architect
    Hi guys,
Long-time lurker but am a big fan of the Grand Architect build. Went 3-1 at a local shop with this, beating Splinter Twin, Storm, and Soul Sisters and losing to an Eldrazi Ramp deck that I mistook for an Elves deck (siding in 2 Ratchet Bombs was not very useful)
    2 Judge's Familiar
    1 Spellskite
    2 Vedalken Engineer
    4 Etherium Sculptor
    2 Pili-Pala
    4 Grand Architect
    2 Treasure Mage
    1 Solemn Simulacrum
    3 Lodestone Golem
    1 Batterskull
    1 Wurmcoil Engine
    1 Myr Battlesphere
    1 Platinum Angel
    1 Sundering Titan
    1 Memnarch
    4 Aether Vial
    1 Chalice of the Void
    2 Mind Stone
    1 Tezzeret the Seeker
    1 Lightning Greaves
    1 Staff of Domination
    14 Island
    4 Cavern of Souls
    4 Tectonic Edge
    1 Academy Ruins

    Notes:
-Pili-Pala + Grand Architect combo is cool, but not essential. Basically, if it does happen, the 2 primary outlets are Staff of Domination for gaining infinite life or card draw to fill up your hand or Memnarch to steal all of your opponent's permanents, but most times I just dump out my hand with the infinite mana and have good board position afterwards.
-Tezzeret the Seeker can help me search up a Pili-Pala or Staff of Domination if I have Grand Architect and one of the other pieces out or sideboard hate but not really much else us for him that I would need more than 1 of.
-Aether Vial works in this deck.
-The 7 drop fatties are about as high as the engine can go. Throwing down 7 CMC creatures wasn't hard to do in any of my games, but the Sundering Titan did get stuck in my hand a couple times. I thought about an Inkwell Leviathan at one point but 9 CMC is hard to support with the Vedalken Engineer/Grand Architect/Etherium Sculptor engine.

Feedback/Questions I'd love to get from you guys:
-The 2 Mind Stones I put in for more ramp and figured I can recycle the card later game, but I was wondering if 2 Thorn of Amethysts would work in its place or any other utility artifacts I could put in its place?
-14 islands was perfect amount to always hit my Grand Architect on Turn 3, are there any useful lands in Modern that produce blue that could fit in this deck also? I'd like to have less islands but still have enough blue color sources.
-I didn't even know about the card Renowned Weaponsmith until I read about it on this thread. I will have to get some of those. Ehterium Sculptors + Grand architects are must-haves, but I wonder if my Vedalken Engineer x 2 could be replaced by Renowned Weaponsmith OR Chief Engineer instead? Which of those 3 is best and why?
-Any other feedback would be great. Overall, this deck is quick, surprises people, and has fun taxing effects for your opponents and fatties that are hard to deal with. I love it and will be refining and playing again soon!

Agree. I guess the difficulty is really finding a way to see objectively which is most effective (the white splash for Ajani, Lingering Souls, or the straight BGR one, or even the new BG only Jund that's populating top 8 and dailies now). It is very hard to measure which is more optimal vs another.

    Hi guys,
Long time lurker. 1st time poster. I have been playtesting Young Pyromancer as a 2 of. 3-1 with it so far on MTGO paid 2 man queues. Can't really get a sense of whether he adds value or not. Was useful in a few of the games, but can't tell if he is worth the slots. Feedback welcome.

Argetlam - re: dryad militant, I think she fits well into d&t because all builds of D&T are always so clogged with 3 drops. Dryad is a nice bodied 1 drop that doesn't require extra mana investment like student of warfare (plus no risk of opponent time walking you when you try to level up). And gives you a turn 1 play without a vial that can start the clock on your opponent so we don't get stuck with our opponent at 1-3 life when they finally regain their footing. She basically provides aggro with a hint of taxing.

dolzero - the fetches with arbiter isn't bad at all. I would like 4 sacred foundries so I can take out the singleton marsh flats so 4 fetches with arbiter is no problem (as opposed to 5 though its not problematic currently and can easily be played around).

With regards to Thalia, 7 1-CMC non creature spells is doable. But with re: 1 Boros charm and 1 Ajani Vengeant, I could certainly plug those with something better since I am also concerned about my creature density (only 24 creatures vs D&T standard 27-29). I have enjoyed yalls discussion on Thalia replacements not sure if there is a better boros 2 drop than Thalia right now. Definitely would be open to replacing Ajani Vengeant or Boros Charm (they haven't shown up in a large majority of the games so haven't gotten an idea if they are worth the slots yet).

Overall the deck is a lot of fun (I also have uw , gw, bw versions of D&T) - lot of fun things to do (vialing in magus in response to scapeshift or anytime for that matter or vialing in reckoner to pyroclasms or to chump block and redirect damage).
