So it looks like foil Innistrad Ghost Quarter are being bought up. I was looking at getting a playset for G/W hate bears and they have doubled in a day. They were around $2-$2.50 just this morning. Looks like I gotta go ahead and pay $5. Is this hype or is this just the latest modern card to catch up with the other staples? Being that it was just reprinted I don't foresee a reprint anytime soon.

How does one deal with the orzhov midrange and esper midrange decks that are popping up?

Chandra is really good in this matchup. I take out boon satyr because it trades with their weak creatures. Add in shocks because it kills almost everything. Domri fight ability works great with a rampaged creature to kill desecration demon second main phase. Destructive Revelry works well too. Also, don't forget to exile there graveyard with Ooze early and often.

Cartel aristocrat seemed like a weak Xathrid necromancer trick anyways. What are the optimal plays for this deck? I've been fooling around with it on tappedout but I'm not always exactly sure what to do.

Get a bunch of humans out. Then board wipe and finish the job with zombies and obzedat or Demon. Or just chump block to keep you alive if your are playing a more aggressive deck then finish the job with one of your bombs. Remember two Necromancers gives you a double trigger so you can create a nice swarm. Also use your removal for Demon to swing unchecked so they can't tap him. Whip of Erebos works great with Lyev Skyknight and Obzedat.

So i placed High priest of penance in instead of Cartel Aristocrat and I think it seems better. I only played 8 or so games (4 against MBD and 4 against R/W Devotion). It slows down almost all the red decks and I don't mind getting chained to the rocks on a High Priest versus my demon or other big threats like Xathrid Necromancer, plus overloaded mortars gives you a free destruction on something good(it killed a Chandra!). In the MBD matchup it slowed down the Rat onslaught as well, and that is probably the matchup where its worse(except maybe U/W control). Its just with Cartel Aristocrat I hardly ever sac a creature, so it seems like the weak link in the deck. Also, if you watch the Sam Black video up today, he boards out Aristocrat often and it seems like High Priest would have been great in a lot of those matchups. Will post after FNM tonight to see if I can go 4-0 again. Wish me luck!

Good to know its been doing well. Mind posting some match up summaries for us?

    Round 1
Played a Selesnya populate deck. Only deck that beat me a game. First game he gets out an Armada Wurm and that's that.
Second and third game add more removal and he is unable to keep up. Blood Baron keeps me out of the danger zone

Can't remember what I played round two

    Round 3 vs. Vesper Control
First game he mulls to 5 and some quick beats from imposing sovereign and skyjek puts the pressure on. He drops Jace, which I detain and its over pretty quickly.
Second game I mull to 5. Its looking pretty bad for me but I resolve a ghost dad and he never has an answer for it. He said when he sphinxed for 5 it was nothing but land so maybe I got lucky. Also, mutavault put some work in.

    Round 4 vs. MonoBlack Devotion
Game 1 he drops a couple kill spells and is playing the control role but a 7/7 demon makes short work of his game plan. I far/away and d-sphere to get the damage through
Game two he trys to rat race me (pun intended). D-sphere stops the first Pack Rat and a verdict stops the second. He gets me down to 3 or so life, but then Blood Baron of Vizkopa slowly drains him and gains life for me. After a few turns he scoops after he saw he was losing next combat

So I'm thinking about 2 High priest of penance in place if cartel aristocrat. I'll see how it goes tomorrow at FNM and post results.

Went 4-0 at my local FNM last week. I think I'm taking it to the super IQ in NC this Saturday. I'm not entirely sold on the Cartel Aristocrat though. I've been playing Daring Skyjek in it's place, but I'm not really sold on that card either. The matchup is pretty abysmal against Rakdos Deck wins though. Might just put in two more removal cards in the place.

One change I made that is awesome though is cut the 4th Imposing Sovereign for a singleton of Blind Obedience. been working very well.

3-0 now. Just beat a U/W in a close one. He took game one but I got 10 cards I board in and took games 2 & 3. A lot of people (myself included) are looking tired and rough. I think Vegas itself is the toughest opponent.

I'm actually in the standard open. Saw BBD play, awesome guy. I'm 2-0 so far with R/W devotion. I've beat Jund aggro and MUD. Lots of Green cards in the field.

I'm at the Standard open in Vegas and I'm seeing a lot of play for the card. Its in green white decks as well as naya hexproof. I don't know if they will make top 8 though.

That R/W player just got owned hard. Don't know why he put madcap skills in against U/W though. Seems like you would just lose with a 2 for 1 too easily

A guy I know won the IQ in Fayetteville last weekend with this deck. Definitely gimmicky and seems super fun to play.

The basic idea is run Nivmagus elemental, Akroan Crusader, or young Pyromancer

Then he ran cypher spells, such as trait doctoring or hidden strings. Also ran lots of pump spells like Titan strength and mizzium skin as well as shock.

turn 1 the nivmagus elemental. Turn two hidden strings, untap land trait doctoring, exile, shock exile. You have a 5/6 turn two and after it swings the cypher trigger goes off and you can untap your lands. He also ran Quicken I believe.

Is it wrong for me to say that I "PERSONALLY" want that thing banned.
I mean no ones going to agree with that but if I never had to see it again, it'd be too soon.
3 land = 18 mana, and seeing it fully take advantage of the New Legend Rules, is pretty sickening and not in a good way.

I'm almost surpised no ones started throwing fireballs with it. "Dome you for 20?".
Sigh. Still congrats to the Mr. Hall of dallas.

He definitely navigated the meta well.
Which I feel like is more important than anything else right now in standard. Navigating the meta well.
    end rant.

I'm waiting for these G/R decks to throw in a clan defiance as a one or two of. Am I the only one who thinks this card would be bonkers in this deck.

Gotta play that Judge's Familiar pre-combat. I guess that camera is throwing people off.

Also, that may be the first female judge I've ever seen on a stream.

So I have a question about the stack. I put it in my Domri R/G deck. I have essentially all permanents except a couple Mizzium Mortars. I boarded it in against Esper Control figuring I would win the permanent count. I did but how does the stack go. I dropped a planeswalker, a creature, some land and a Burning Earth. He had a Detention Sphere come down. How does this go down. Does one player go first? Do we alternate permanents on the stack? Any help would be appreciated.

What is the order of permanents being placed? Does the opponent put his down first? Do you alternate order? I ask because I boarded it in against a control deck, and he had a Detention Sphere come into play which he targeted my Burning Earth with.
