  • posted a message on What's the point in Bolas creating the Eternals?
I think the piece people are missing is that bolas didn't have to collect his eternal army anytime soon he has an endless amount of years where the fact that he can't really do anything with his army doesn't matter. all he needs is for some unique event or unique technology to give him the opportunity and suddenly he has an army on standby that he can use.

so the fact that he didn't know the planar bridge would be invented before he started his army doesn't really matter. he's seen enough of the multiverse to know that something can happen to make an army useful even if he doesn't know what specifically.

i don't think there can be any question that DTK is better for intelligent species as a whole. in KTK not only was an entire intelligent species completely annihilated but the remaining species were all (with the possible exception of the jeskai)still being ruled by either out right tyrants, or people that were being forced to be cruel and ruthless for the sake of their perspective clans.

we saw what both sides did when they had the key to ultimate victory placed in their grasp. one side wiped their enemies out completely and went on to turn against each other. the other side spared their enemies and while a lot here make a fuse about how badly the clans have it with their dragon tyrants most of the so called tyranny was either 1. still happening in the timeline the khans won 2. the khans had a different kind of tyranny that was arguably just as bad. 0r 3. it's only speculation that said tyranny is happening at all.

most of the neo walkers are also either really young or not featured very heavily bolas and ulgin might still be capable of making planes. and some of the younger neo planes walkers might eventually gain the ability if they can find a way to live long enough.

and that's where the old walkers advantage comes in they had immortality standard came with the package neo walkers? not so much.

i dislike how often her first response to things is to think kill or at least curse. I prefer black characters that can think a bit more than that an kill only when it makes a bit more sense than well I can kill it so why not.

I always disliked george r r martin's works I would be sorry if uncharted followed his example. actually to clarify I always hated his dialogue his action and intrigue sooo good but man the dialogue is atrocious.

    Quote from Ashiok »
Two conversations from books for kids or from our times:

Extracted from Maze of Bones, by Rick Riordan (same guy who wrote Percy Jackson):

"Remind me to fire your au pair as soon as we return to Boston" Beatrice grumbled. "You two have been estirely too spoiled"
    "Nellie's nice!" Dan protested.
"Hmph! This Nellie almost let you burn down the neighbor's apartment building!"
    "Exactly!"

"What are you readin this time?" he asked. "Medieval European Doorknobs? Barh Towels Through the Ages?"
Amy gave him an ugly face - or an unglier-than-usual face.
    "None of your business, dweeb"
"You can't call a ninja lord dweeb. You have disgraced the family. You must commit seppuku".

Extracted from Neverwhere, by Neil Gaiman:

"Jesus!" said Richard, and he threw the remote control at it as hard as he could. It chrashed into the videos with a bang. Of the dark shape there was no sign.
    "Richard!" said Door.
"It's okay" he explained. "I think it was just a rat or something."
She glared at him. "Of course it was a rat. You'll have it scared now, poor thing".
She looked around the room, then made a low whistling noise between her front teeth.
    "Hello?" she called.

Now let's take a look at two historical novels:

Extracted from The Winter King, by Bernard Cornwell:

"Touch him, Gorfyddyd", said a new voice in the hall, "and your life is mine. I shall bury it in the dungheap of Caer Idion and call the dogs to piss on it. I shall give your soul to the spirit children who lack playthings. I shall keep you in darkness till the last day is done and then I shall spit on you till the next era begins, and even then, Lord King, your torments will hardly have begun".
I felt the tension sweep out of me like a rush of water. Only one man would dare speak to a High King thus. It was Merlin.[...]
"You speak or this man, Lord Merlin?" Gorfyddyd asked.
"Are you deaf Gorfyddyd?" Merlin snapped. "Derfel Cadarn shall live. He shall be your honored guest. He shall eat of your food and drink of your wine. He shall sleep in your bed and take your slave women if he desires. Derfel Cadarn and Galahad of Benoic are under my protection!"

Extracted from the Iron King, by Maurice Druon:

"What's the matter with you, Philippe Darling?" Marguerite asked, her arms extended towards him, her face raised to receive a kiss. "Aren't you happy this evening?"
    "Perfectly" he answered coldly.
"What's happened? What are you angry about now?"
"Have you put that on merely to annoy me?" asked Philippe, pointing to the purse.
    She laughed loudly and happily.
"How silly you are, how jealous and how sweet! Didn't you realise that I was teasing you? Just to calm you down, I'll give you the purse. You will know then that it was no present from a lover." [...]
"Yes, yes, I want you to have it" she said. "Now it really is a love-gauge for you. No, don't refuse. But don't ask me again where the purse came from, or I shall have to take it back. I can only swear to you that it was not given me by a man. Besides, Blanche has got one too."

The firs extract I took from a speech from Merlin, considered to be a powerul wizard/druid. The second I took from two lovers talking to each other, one of them (Marguerite) having a personality very similar to Liliana's in some respects. Please compare and tell me which one do you think the uncharted realms is more closely related to, the first two or the last two. In my opinion clearly the first two, the use of 'hmph', casual colocations such as 'just a rat or something' that make the text sound too modern or too out of place, while I wanted it go in the direction of the last two extracts, that sound less childish and more mature, without seeing 'wooden' or 'formal'.

That said, this is my last attempt to point out this matter. If everybody thinks that the text is fine, great. There is nothing I can do to argue otherwise. I think we could uphold higher standards for writing, but if people think my standards are inappropriate or innacurate, then patience.

better to ask which is better dialogue. I see nothing good about the two adult pieces you quoted.

first off being there once with a world soul as a guide does not mean that you automatically know how to get back there again especially since the world guides thing was kind of submerging her in the world so much she had little situational awareness.

second her first meeting with dwynen was five minutes why would that of been her only meeting with her though?

third the lorwyn elves didn't disappear they changed temporarily eventually they change back which makes it completely possible for her to study with them.

fourth perhaps I am not sure.

people really throw the word ret-con around for every little thing seemingly without much thought on if it's actually applicable.

I think Gideons origin story was fun, even though it seems weird that the Kytheon card would be a soldier. To me he really felt more like a warrior, but hey, that does not concern the UR-story.
Even though I really like the idea of Kytheon's gang of friends and misfits, it felt a little weird that they did not appear for most of the story. When all of them came to help saving Akros it felt a little like that moment in the movie 'Desperado', when suddently there are two more guys with deadly guitar cases! XD But that's only my personal feeling, after all, their appearance was definitely foreshadowed by Kytheon talking about them pretty often and one of his friends (even though he was kinda swallowed by the background during the training montage) even was together with him at the prison.

Also, I felt the twist of the story that the death of his friends was supposed to be Gideons fault a little bit... out of nowhere, but I guess that was the feeling the creative team wanted to evoke with that scene?

Well, I guess the story was pretty solid. Or, all the things I did not like that much can be explained away easily, so there's that.
Although I certainly hope that upon Gideons return to Theros he starts trying to slay the gods that betrayed him (or simply all of them), after all, he is as indestructible as they are! XD

sorry how did anyone betray him? erebos was never on his side and no one told him hey you should totally attack this god that doesn't have any reason to like you it's totally a good idea. he decided on his own to provoke someone far more powerful than him who he already knew to be an enemy he should feel lucky erebos either didn't realize he was going to survive the retaliation or was content with leaving him alone afterwards.

you keep repeating that as if it was a big deal it isn't they changed a few words that could as well of been a mistake in the first place. the more you try to make it one the harder it is to take any of your posts seriously.

barinellos occasionally falls into trap of thinking his interpretation of what is official lore is the only correct one and backs it up with sources that don't actually implicitly say what he insists that it says. and he can be quite condescending on insisting the issue.
