Really? Four of them? Has Negate been a rockstar while I've been away?

Seriously, it's not like control mirrors are all over Modern right now.

    - 2 Anger in the sideboard might be replaced by a quick clock (Geist or Clique).

I disagree with this. Geist doesn't help you deal with big mana decks or graveyard decks. I'm not that high on Clique either but it's definitely better since it can be disruptive and/or useful for gaining info.

Dredge, in general, is too fast for us. Assuming they don't have average draws, it's still a slog for Jeskai to get a game win. Amulet is too fast and makes all your Bolt effects worthless. Cavern of Souls naming Giant takes care of the rest. Tron just does Tron things and we generally fall over. We could get lucky with Bolt-Snap-Bolt, but you're never landing your combo against their average draws. Hardened Scales goes big pretty fast if they get to start off with their namesake enchantment. Otherwise, we can handle it as we would most Affinity matches. It's still easy for our Bolts to become useless though, and applying pressure to finally win can be awkward.

Of all those matches, Amulet Titan is probably the only one where I would want the combo. That's not enough for me to wreck my mana base.

I don't know why this combo keeps getting brought up. It is supremely sketchy to rely on a 2-toughness creature to get you across the finish line in almost any combo/unfair match, and what Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker does to your mana base is not a small thing either.

Jeskai isn't that good right now because Lightning Bolt is of questionable usefulness. That combined with it's inefficiency at dealing with graveyard-based decks makes it not so good against the top tier decks right now. Against the rest of the field, it seems fine but not stellar.

I have a hard time understanding why Lingering Souls matters against Elves. They go wide faster and can get big faster than you can. Even if they matter against Elves, that's far from the main decks I would be concerned with.

I think that's a terrible idea. If you cut the mana dorks, there's no reason to play this build over a traditional midrange deck (Rock, Jund, Abzan, Sultai). If I try something like this, I'm cutting Lingering Souls first. It is definitely the weakest card in the deck these days imo. By "fast decks," do you mean combo or hyper-aggressive decks?

It's really cute and really close to being something I would want to play. That whole having to "survive until combat" is a drag for me in a big way. It's probably the fairest way to bring Cabal Therapy into Modern, and it's probably actually somewhere between decent-to-good, but to me, it's a pale imitation.

Jund is probably the worst deck in Modern that is a playable deck, GB isn't too far behind it. I would not recommend playing this deck or any mid-range deck if you are looking for wins or competitive games. I would also not recommend Jund or GB if you suffer from depression or have suicidal thoughts.

Just look at this thread. I scrolled back a few a pages, there is nobody on here celebrating anything. Entire weeks go by without a single post. And when there is a post, it is someone suggesting something new for the deck, that is only immediately shot down, with good reason usually. I've been playing this deck for a long time now, hoping that something would make midrange playable but we are beyond that now. Nobody wants fair games, they want infinite loop or instant kill. Playing anything else, you are just wasting your time. Move on to some other deck, that is easier to play, like Burn or Tron.

    Close this thread. It's over.

That's because we're on Facebook and Discord.

GBx decks are far from dead. They're just not the top of the food chain any more, and probably won't be ever again. I'm fine with that. Otherwise, why so salty?

    Just something in my mind.

Why can't we run 1 or 2 Kessig Wolf Run to deal with problematic flying tokens which mostly probably our weakest match ups?

Skarrg, the Rage Pits seems better to me if you're going that route. However, making colorless mana is not where you want to be. There are occasions when even Twilight Mire is a pain in the ass and that makes two of our prominent colors but not red. So you can easily get hosed with bad opening hands. Not to mention, this way seems like a very roundabout way to deal with tokens. Why not play Grim Flayer instead?

    opinion?

    https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-abzan-65818#paper

    I'm going to buy it

    it could work?

    any change?

Kitchen Finks is not a card that excites me but this is about as basic as Abzan Aggro/Midrange gets. I'm not sure you still want a full play set of Path to Exile if you're also going to play that many Assassin's Trophy, but I do like that combo of spells for my removal suite. I'm also certain Loxodon Hierarch is supposed to be Loxodon Smiter instead. Loxodon Hierarch doesn't really make sense to me. There are way better 4-cmc spells we could play while staying aggressive. That said, playing 1 or 2 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. I just don't think it's a card that normally sees play in this shell.

The thing is that the deck doesn't need selection, not really. We play a combination of cards that through Search triggers or cycling/casting Heiro we can find the cards we need without playing weaker cantrips. The strength of Heiro is that its good to cycle early game, but it's not a *****ty rip in the lategame like Visions is. I think if you play with only Serums and then you play with only Illuminations, a clear winner emerges.

While I generally like some number of Hieroglyphic Illumination, it's largely for its speed and flexibility (can be cycled early, more keepable opening hands, etc) instead of its card drawing "power." I say "power" because the fact that these are the cantrips we're debating about shows how bad Modern cantrips are. That said, I still like Serum Visions if I'm playing more silver bullets from my sideboard. The real problem I have with it is that it's a sorcery. They each have their uses though.

Maelstrom Pulse seems pretty bad against Scales Affinity from my recollection. You generally need/want instant speed answers.

EDIT: Scales Affinity is one matchup where Kalitas is far more useful than Huntmaster as well.

Cherry on top would be the keyword you "May" exile them to get Dredge when Kalitas isn't out and to get Zombies when he is.

When there are two replacement effects, doesn't the player who controls the effects get to choose which one is used?

True. If there are multiple replacement effects, the owner of the object chooses which one will affect it.

I don't believe that's the case any longer. Tron, Scapeshift, Amulet, UW Control, and Lantern are all poised to be good now and all have positive matchups against Jund. Burn is still good and I believe that matchup slightly favors Burn. Affinity has morphed into a harder deck to beat with Hardened Scales. Jund has a positive matchupu against Storm, but that isn't overly prevalent right now. Humans and Spirits are probably 50/50 - Jund does well against creature decks but those 2 decks pack a lot of disruption on the bodies, which brings the matchups closer.

Lantern is a bad matchup?? How??

    Also, Tron is definitely 50/50.
