Hi, all. Looking for info on the PTQ occurring on 7/5/14 in Seattle, which Wizards website says is happening at the Seattle Center. Trying to find out start time, cost, player cap, etc. Any information would be really helpful.
I've recently finished up building my last few commander decks, and am looking to start another project. I am at a bit of a loss as to what legend I want at the helm of my new ship. I was hoping the community could suggest a general that meets these conditions if possible:
Not mono-colored
Non-linear win conditions (interesting and varied to play, possibly irregular ways of winning the game)
Not insta-hate fodder (Kaalia, Arcuum, etc.)
(My current commanders are Riku of Two Reflections, Zedruu, the Greathearted, and Lazav, Dimir Mastermind, so not looking to repeat any of those.)
Hey all. I played this list to the final of a GPT last weekend, and I was very pleased. (Scooped to my opponent in the final because he is going to the GP and I am not)
I played against Zoo three times, and I won them all. Kitchen Finks is an absolute all star in that match up. I didn't see any Bitterblossom decks, so that will still have to be tested. Tokens seems like it could be tough, but I feel pretty good about Faeries. All in all, I think Pod is very well positioned for the new meta, and I look forward to grinding it for the upcoming Modern PTQ season. I'm actually a little worried that Pod will dominate the new meta, and end up being banned at the next announcement, but I guess that remains to be seen.
Congrats on the success!
Wondering why people are cutting Phyrexian Metamorph so frequently. What's your reason for not playing the card? I've never been disappointed in drawing it, or podding for it.
I'd rather board out weak combo pieces (Melira, Seer, Archangel Spike) against them. Board in all your removal. Orzhov Pontiff often wrecks them (I don't maindeck it or Abrupt Decay, though).
Speaking of this, which matchups are best to start boarding out combo pieces?
Hey, guys. After playing pod for a bit, I've decided I really like the deck and want to become more serious with it. Where I'm having trouble with is sideboard strategy, though. Here's my current board, which is pretty run-of-the-mill:
I've decided against stuff like Cranial/Surgical Extraction because I feel like they are sometimes a waste of a card, and Thoughtseize is much better all-around answer and disruption.
I really need help with what to board in/out against Jund and Tron. I'm just not sure which answers are best. Maybe I need to change some numbers in the board too.
Yeah, I was goldfishing with my list a bit last night, and decided 4 Drums was something I wanted. So far, here are my changes:
-1 Dispatch (moved to sideboard)
-1 Steelshaper's Gift
-1 Memnite
-1 Etched Champion (moved to sideboard)
-1 Galvanic Blast
+1 Inkmoth Nexus
+1 Thoughtcast
+1 Springleaf Drum
+2 Steel Overseer
After playing in an event yesterday and stumbling a few times with mana, I'm thinking about switching up my land counts. What do other people find success with in the land department? I run:
3 Glimmervoid
4 Blinky Nex
3 Inky Nex
4 Darksteel Citadel
1 Island
1 Mountain
c) The turn 4 rule is a joke that upsets the balance of the format. If wizards actually had the chops to reprint FoW and wasteland, most of the cards on the banlist could come off, and the format would dramatically improve. At the same time, you would get the return of archetypes like tempo and control, maybe even prison, and LD. It's almost inevitable that sooner or later, wizards will print a card that breaks the turn 4 rule. When they do, it will need to be banned out of the format. The alternative seems to be to print mind-numbingly boring cards that never push the limits. Good luck with that. Oh, and say goodbye to rituals, tutors, cantrips, good draw, decent counterspells, LD, and anything that wizards are afraid will power up combo, or scare new players.
Seems like a Legacy player is mad that Modern isn't Legacy. Let modern be its own format, and if you don't like it, don't play it. Seems like a simple answer to me.
I think Ill try it out. It's pretty standard practice to do Perfect fits with the openings at the bottom of the card and then feed them in right side up to regular sleeves? That seems like it would offer the best protection. Would this fix my issue of cards sliding up in their sleeves?
I am kinda worried about double sleeving as the size of the deck will highly increase and be more difficult to shuffle. Can anyone convince me on double sleeving?
I just sleeved up my T2 deck in Hyper Mattes, and I love they way they shuffle and feel in my hands. My only issue is that after a hour or so of playing, the cards will slide up a bit in their sleeves and I'll have to go through and push them back down which I don't particularly enjoy or feel is good for the cards. Does anyone else have this issue or know how to fix it? I'm considering double sleeving because I've got 4 Voice of Resurgence, 3 Obzedat, 12 Shocks, etc. Any help from anyone would be appreciated.
I generally bring Lingering Souls in against midrange/tempo (Jund/UWR Midrange/Delver/Faeries/GW Hatebears/not Pod), non-Tron heavy control (it's too slow against Tron, but other heavy control decks like UWR Control tend to have no clock), Infect, Affinity, BW Tokens, and maybe Zoo. It's good in the match-ups where Chord of Calling is bad.
Thanks in advance.

Teams aren't allowed byes anymore for GPs.

For Islands I use Lorwyn #286 and Lorwyn #287
Zendikar #246 and Zendkiar #248 are what I use for Forests.
I use the split of full-art and half-art mainly because those happen to be my favorite arts, but it also makes tutoring for basics a lot easier.

What did you double sleeve with? Perfect fits?

When is Chord bad?
