What a weird card to speculate on. If you ever fo to a big event. Just dump as many as you can to each vendor at their buylist price. You may have to trade into tournament format staples cards to convince them to take that many.
From what I can see in the photos, it is real. If it passes the light test, you should be okay. So far, I have not seen any counterfeits with the blue core, they all have black cores, like Bicycle playing cards.
If you have a Jeweler's loop you can be 100%. Just google it to see videos of people demonstrating how to check for the rosette pattern.
I play legacy, so I guess this is kind of expensive as a casual deck. Nevertheless trying to figure out how to use some of these cards. Looking for suggestions as my card pool knowledge is kind of limited. The strategy is to basically control all the creatures on board from attacking you, gain life and try to win with a celestial convergence as you delay the game for as long as possible.
This is a Human-based aggro / prison deck playing enough hatebears and disruptive creatures that plays a small number of spells. This deck is based strongly on the builds by Sam Castrucci and Jogee (mtgo) seen in the vintage meta game. If it is powerful enough to see play in vintage it could have a chance in legacy. However, color fixing and acceleration must be taken into account as there are no moxen when adapting the legacy version. Also, the hatebears need to be wider as there are more than the only four prevalent decks in legacy than vintage. Artifact hate slots were thinned out since MUD is not a strong concern in Legacy, while storm and dredge hate slots were kept the same. Nevertheless, the deck is still in progress, but here is a current list.
This particular list is built so that Unclaimed Territory can cast any creature in the entire deck alongside Cavern of Souls. The only non-human here is Phyrexian Revoker, but is only uses the colorless mana.
Mana Confluence is...mana confluence, a rainbow land in a five color deck. It is technically better than City of Brass, but I've yet to see Tangle Wire-like effects become mainstream in legacy.
Both Thalias' roles are similar to their role in most decks they are played in such as Death and Taxes. A resistor effect combined with Wastelands and disruption to slow down combo while being a threat at the same time.
Harsh Mentor, Meddling Made, and Kitesail Freebooter are disruption creatures that are also threats.
Kambal and Scab-Clan Berserker give this deck protection against the broken combo decks by making most "one big turn" type strategies impossible to utilize. The brainstorm, ponder, preordain builds that many Legacy decks use also become a liability when facing down Kambal, Consul of Allocation or Scab-Clan Berserker.
Manic Vandal isn't incredibly impressive, but it's a Human that can take out an artifact. Not sure if it needs to stay in the Legacy version, as it was main deck include for vintage due to the widespread use of Moxen and MUD archetype cards.
Aether Vial is pseudo-acceleration to replace the Moxen and allows creatures to be put into play at instant speed. As a result, Null Rod is removed from the main deck. Also, Null Rod is not as strong in Legacy as it is in Vintage. Once again, because there are no Moxen in legacy and MUD is not the strongest deck in Legacy.
Reflector Mage is one of the only ways this deck has to deal with an opponent's creature. This is an important ability that could save your life when you're fighting against a Griselbrand or a Spaghetti Monster.
Mayor of Avabruck and Thalia's Lieutenant act as anthem effects.
Noble Hierarch is great mana fixing and acceleration.
Dark Confidant is the only source of card draw advantage; the mana curve of the deck is low enough to use Dark Confidant.
The sideboard is mostly made up of additional hatebears.
Containment Priest and Grafdigger's Cage are good against any cheat creature into play decks such as Natural Order, Show and Tell, and Reanimator builds. (Grafdigger's cage doesn't work against Show and Tell).
Aegis can also do some work against combo decks that win with Tendrils of Agony, but good protection against any discard based deck that may also use cards like Liliana of the Veil and Diabolic Edict. It is a Leyline of Sanctity on a creature.
The Pontiff's ability to shrivel the opponent's creature's power and toughness is good against decks like Elves, Death and Taxes, and Merfolk that can wipe the board without wiping our side of the field.
Melira, Sylvok Outcast is kind of narrow and only good against infect. It can probably be removed since Infect is on a downtick in popularity lately. But it is good to know there is a human that exists for infect if it it rises in popularity again.
Grand Abolisher plays a bit like a Defense Grid. Good against blue decks with a lot of counterspell effects. Sometimes, Cavern of Souls in not enough, or cannot be found naturally.
What do you guys do with old card sleeves? Do you save them and give them to kids? Clean them and use them for some type of life hack? Or just throw them away?
I feel bad that I keep throwing mine away cause I change my sleeves every month but they’re really not that bad of condition. I’m just OCD compared to other people.
Combo Decks
Deck still has some issues against Show and Tell decks, especially the Omniscience builds. Karakas in the main should help, but it is minimal with only one main board.
Mindbreak Traps were better than Thorns of Amethyst against storm, because they are also blue cards to help Force of Will as well. It was a rare corner case, but I had two Mindbreak Traps in hand one game with little gas to put pressure on the storm player.
Surgical Extractions seemed to be enough of a deterrent against Reanimator based decks. Dredge is fine if you cant hit Ichorids or Narcomoebas early, and if they get too many out to fuel to combo, it can hit combo pieces.
Again, without Brainstorm the deck if very opening hand dependent. I did not like sideboarding to hate, but seemed necessary against combo decks.
Fair decks
Delver decks were not too much of an issue. Though Force of Will against an Aether Vial can be devastating because it is one way to develop the board around their counterspells. Wasteland was annoying because it always went for the Cavern of Souls.
4 Color Control/Leovold decks were okay because it can outspeed the Leovold and True Name Nemesis threat. However, the board wipes like Toxic Deluge and Pyroclasm were devastating. Learned to not overplay the flying slivers and hold them back for Force of Will fuel. Even Lingering Souls was annoying because it generated so many blockers.
It was difficult to out value the midrange and control decks. The deck really just needs to power out as many Sliver Lords and get swinging.
Striking Sliver is good, and works well with the curve. Sidewinder Sliver may have an argument if more Karakas come in the mainboard.
Prison Control Decks
Lands is a bigger issue than expected. Punishing Fire, Wasteland Lock, Tabernacle, Maze of Ith, and Glacial Chasm are all real problems. It was tough to decide whether Pithing Needle should name Thespian's Stage or Wasteland some games.
U/W Miracles/Control was surprisingly okay. Cavern of Souls is a life saver in the matchup. The deck is able to get enough pressure out quickly to prevent them from setting up. Yet, there were some games without a Cavern of Souls where they are just able to counter everything and by turn 4 they have turned the corner with Jace or just enough answers like Back to Basics and no Aether Vial on board for us.
Why is Lingering Souls starting to see play in some Lands sideboards? I get the lists usually run Bojuka Bog, Riftstone Portal, Horizon Canopy, and/or Murmuring Bosk somewhere in the list to help with the color fixing. Yet, I do not see what this is supposed to come in against.
Some lists popping up on mtggoldfish moving away from trackers and into lingering souls. What do you guys think about this change and would you put riftstone portal back into the list to accompany bosk to support casting the spell?
If you have a Jeweler's loop you can be 100%. Just google it to see videos of people demonstrating how to check for the rosette pattern.
