CoS will always rock in a tribal deck for sure.
So with #SCGNY this weekend, if a spirits player makes it through to 3-0, we will probably see it on camera. So what are some cards we should buy early on this week to avoid the buyouts/price spike, should a player perform well?

I'd rather ditch vial and have more interaction with the board, being more controly.
Since our creatures can be easily overpowered I guess it's better to try and disrupt what our opponent is trying to do than playing a bunch of 2/Xs.
In my list I would try one Cryptic Command instead of a Supreme Verdict to tap out any potential blockers and swing in for lethal.
I will post match results as soon as I can play with the deck

In my opinion the whole point of our deck is that our creatures are control on a body, so I don't see us as just playing a bunch of 2/x guys. In fact, I think it's vital that to win we cast early creatures AND keep creatures in our hand to control the removal sent our way (like Queller). This is hard to do without mana acceleration, which is what vial offers.
I think this will prove to be what sticks. I love the version hoogland suggested.

I've beaten Burn countless times with that board. Nyxathid, Blight, Syphon, and Affliction do tons of work.

Agreed, I think that board is perfect for the burn matchup. Just gotta draw the cards, just like all sideboard games...

Played in a pptq myself yesterday. 6 rounder @Tabletop Shop in New Britain, CT. Dont know how many people played but there were quite a few. Ran DestroyerMaker's stock list.

Admittedly, this was my first time playing the deck in paper, and my first modern event in paper as well. Not a very experienced player, but Ive been following this thread and watching Rob and Sean's youtube videos.

Rd 1: W 2-1 over Burn, I keep a hand with no targeted discard on a mull to 6, he does his thing, nyxathid wins game 2, syphon life puts me out of burn range on the last turn in G3, and he gets racked out.

Rd 2: W 2-1 over Junk, Take his plays away, bridge up on 3, couple muta beats, and racks do it G1. G2 he gets topdeck goyf down and beats me up. G3, enough rats slow things down, a wrench mind devastates his hand, and then rack+affliction gets him.

Rd 3: L 0-2 to Infect, He blows me out pretty quickly G1, he saw all 4 glistner elves over the first 3 turns, i discarded One elf and one Might of old Krossa, but his Inkmoths were too much. G2 I tried and tried, IOK'ed a blighted agent, TS'ed a might, but he had 2 inkmoths coming in, and dropped a become immense on me.

Rd 4: W 2-1 over Bogles, This was an interesting match, we get deck-checked, have some small talk, we both know what the other guy is playing, I saw him drop a t0 Leyline of Sanctity G1 in his rd3 match, and it shows up in all 3 of our games. G1 I manage to get 3 bridges out over the course of many turns, as he had no MD artifact destruction. I tick lili up constantly, though he has 5 cards in hand, making rats the whole way, never realizing that the correct play is to Lili myself and seperate the bridges and swing. He concedes, and tells me im a bad magic player and *****ty at playing my deck, things get a little chippy at this point. G2 he uses naturalize on my bridge, and swings with some huge hexproof japanese card, 1/1 green guy. G3 I get him locked out with 3 bridges(later find out he had 2 naturalize in hand), pumping Lili up and making rats (over 20), ive got him at 2 cards in hand with 2 racks out, chipping away as lili soars over 20 loyalty. Then I rushed and passed turn after making a rat, but before activating my LOTV. I noticed right away, but Comp REL, I couldnt take it back, we called a judge he agreed. So were going back and forth im trying to deck him at this point, not realizing i can just LOTV ult myself and win. I tried to Ult him, but then he said I cant, but I could target myself, and smiled wryly, then I realized how foolish I had been. Ulted myself and swung with rats. I was pretty embarrassed for missing this obvious play, but I just had never been in that situation. He offered his hand and said he just likes to be a ********* while hes playing, I told him hes lucky I couldn't fight him, since hes under DCI protection, we laughed.

Rd 5: W 2-1 over Esper Delve, G1 he got a smoking start with a Geist and later a tasigur, I just couldnt draw the discard, also, never played against a geist before, so I didnt know it was hexproof(jap card) which was a bummer. G2+3 I get him with exact damage off racks/affliction. Wrench minds coming up huge.

Rd 6: L 2-1 to Junk, G1 He mulls to 6 i knock him off course, IOK his first goyf then LOTV his 2nd. Racks do him in, in short order. G2 he thoughtsiezes me t1, takes my ts, no targeted discard left, decays my bridge, beats me pretty good, even after missing an attack phase with his goyf. G3 I mull to 6, he offers to draw again, he was in 2nd place, I was 8th place, and tied with about 5 other players @ 12 points. I keep a *****ty hand, scared to mull further, and just cant get it done. When top 8 was announced, the 8th place was a player @4-2, the burn player I beat first round, who got in on <1% tie breakers haha, he played next to me against the 1st place undefeated player.

All in all it was a fun day and I learned quite a bit and got to actually play the deck in paper. I wish I drew the last round now, but at the time it would have been too risky, 4 of 5 12 pt players lost in the last round. I think at least 3 of the decks in T8 were Burn as well, which would have been great for me. Anyways, thanks for keeping the thread active.

PS- another 8rack player I met there, said he wished he had brought it that day, and then mentioned a card to me, dimir machinations. Has that been discussed here?

Agreed, Tarmogoyf is better with a discard strategy, the reason is that it can grow outside of bolt range. Once you have Liliana, Abrupt Decay, Tarmogoyf, Thoughtseize and Inquisition, you now have the base of a Jund/Junk deck. The more i think about it any deviation from the mono black 8 rack looks like a suboptimal Jund/Junk deck.

Agreed, this is what would drive destroyermaker nuts lol.
