So I finally have Lantern assembled in paper and I was able to get some games in. I played against 4 different decks but I haven't been able to quite figure 2 of the match ups. Any help would be great.
1. Infect- This match seemed 50/50 or 60/40 favorable to us. A few of our games we went on the Noble Hierarch and Spellskite beats plan.
2. Bogles- I think this is as close to 100% us as a match can get. I felt bad for the guy.
3. Grixis Midrange- This one was tough for me. I was able to take a counter away but Cryptic Command prevented me from landing an Ensnaring Bridge almost every time. Any thoughts on this one?
4. Abzan Aristocrats- I won game 1 but after that I had trouble. I was able to land bridge but he didn't seem to care. Every card I milled just seemed to fuel his plan of Return to the Ranks and Rally the Ancestors. I'm not sure if all of the Aristocrat decks run Melira and creatures with Persist with a sac outlet but this was tough. Their deck is so consistent it seemed like a rough matchup. Tips? Grafdigger's Cage?
I'm a little nervous about the Grixis and Aristocrats decks b/c I'm guessing they will be at the GPT coming up this Saturday. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
Also, is there a Mulligan/Sideboard guide out there somewhere? I'd like to read as much on this as possible.
..I often see the 4th ghoulcaller's bell swapped for a pyxis of Pandemonium. Can anyone explain to me why? Do we really need 8 mill-effects? I think 7 ought to be sufficient...?
First off, I am completely new to the deck and I'm in the finishing stages of completing it in paper. My guess would be why some people don't use Pyxis of Pandemonium is because it makes your Academy Ruins and the 2nd ability on Codex Shredder worse. Sure there are some upsides like exiling Eldrazi and shrinking Delve abilities and Snapcaster Mage targets but I'm not sure if it's good enough.
I'm just now thinking about getting into Lantern Control but with the new banning and OGW coming out I'm waiting for new lists before I splurge and get stuff (I'm missing a ton). Is Inquisition of Kozilek as good now will all of the high CMC stuff floating around or should we up the count on Thoughtseize? @shadowgripper what is your list looking like now in light of the new banning and OGW?
I've been looking for a good budget deck for legacy. I've been wanting to make this deck for awhile now http://www.starcitygames.com/events/coverage/deck_tech_no_stax_with_nichola.html. The deck in this thread seems even cheaper. Is the power of this deck one that could win an FNM against some of the Top Tier decks? Is there any video footage of this deck in action? Any help would be great. Thanks.
Does anyone know of a way to find the Kurt Spiess list from SCG Baltimore? I tried reaching out to SCG, Matthias Hunt and Patrick Sullivan (Commentators that weekend) and Kurt Spiess via Facebook with no responses. I'd love to get my hands on it. I think it could possibly help us further the conversation more.
The only thing I could see green adding to blue-Tron that would be an *improvement* is a Moment's Peace-like effect, as older lists (circa 2007?) used to do. You still keep the draw-go approach but get an upper hand against the worst matchups (Merfolk, Infect, Affinity...).
But for these lists? I don't get it.
Maybe you can think about it.
Picelli89 talked about using a Moment's Peace-like effect like older lists. Has anyone tried Kiora, the Crashing Wave? She does have a Fog effect and she gives the opportunity to ramp and draw a card. Or is the thought that by turn 4 we already have Tron or the we have control and wouldn't need Kiora? I'd love to hear if anyone has given her a shot.
You make a lot of great points. Maybe there is no reason aside from Life from the Loam to go U/G. Even Tarmogoyf seems like a win more card. Is the artifact/enchantment destruction enough to add green? Does it water-down Mono Blue too much? I'd still like to see the Spiess deck from Baltimore though.
You can watch the match. It's round 2 around the 3:28 mark on the video. I was able to get some of his list but I would like to get the exact numbers. Matthias Hunt did run through his entire sideboard though. I don't have Tarmogoyf due to it's high cost and I'm wondering if I could play Hooting Mandrills instead. Thoughts?
I currently running a Bant TurboFog deck and I'm not sure what I should have in my Sideboard. Any ideas? I'd appreciate any help that you guys could offer.
I think I'm going to go down to 20 lands and add a Brain Freeze and Memory's Journey. Any ideas on a sideboard? Are Aegis of the Gods and Circle of Protection: Red cards to include? As of right now all removal the opponents have are dead cards and will probably be sided out. Should I add any creatures? I'd love to hear thoughts and I need some direction. Do cards like Propaganda have a home here?
