I really like the looks of them. And I'm glad WotC decided not to shoehorn a particular archetype into this series of Masterpieces like all enchantments, or instants, etc
Well, after seeing a few of these get opened, it's not that great. The fact that the foil can be any janky common is really disappointing.
Don't get me wrong, free added value is always great. But that foil slot can really be a downer.
Still, if you want to get a box for someone for Christmas or whatever, it's better than getting nothing at all!
I still have faith in this card. She fits into pretty much any current red deck in standard with, perhaps, RW tokens being the lone exception.
Though it's hard to be a dominant Planeswalker in this current standard format because there are so many tier 1 decks right now. Her price tag is a victim of the exceptional variety of standard. That's not entirely a bad thing.
The price of Fatcaster Mage is kind of surprising seeing as it's not going to be a 4 of card in most decks.
The better question is if the card's busted ability to replay instants will mean that quality instants printed while Torrential Gearhulk is in standard will be few and far between...?
Torrential Gearhulk has spiked also and is pretty much equal with Verdurous Gearhulk (which is also seeing a good amount of play including the day1 top decks).
Kaladesh EV is crazy, crazy high right now. The set is all over the Pro Tour. So much for Masterpieces holding down the value of the rares/Mythics at least in the short-term. This is an example of a great set like Kaladesh's demand creating value where a lackluster set like Battle for Zendikar was held back by Expeditions but was held further back by few tournament staples.
I agree. There are so many good build around rares and mythics in the set. I'm really interested to see what deck ends up coming out on top at the end of the weekend.
I only ended up going to one prerelease, and saw one invention (Aether Vial) out of 22 participants. Though I was told that the 3 previous events saw 2 others.
I'm kind of the opinion that there may not have been that many seeded into the prelease packs simply because most of the Inventions are outrageous in limited, and prerelease events are supposed to be as fun as possible. But that's pure speculation. I do recall the Expeditions falling more frequently during the BFZ and Oath prerelease events, for whatever that's worth.
At any rate, I just finished opening my sealed case. I was VERY fortunate to hit 3 Inventions, Mind's Eye, Sculpting Steel and Crucible of Worlds. I can't imagine that's the norm, but thy don't seem to be any more or less rare than the Expeditions were.
Once I heard about the Inventions, I decided to take the plunge and preorder a case. I did so with Oath and found it worked out quite well for moving cards that I opened if I moved things QUICKLY. There were some cards that were easy to spot as eternal playable that I didn't push out right away, but I moved pretty much everything else out of the gate and was able to make a profit. Now I'm lucky that my area has a few LGS' that offer decent trade in bonuses and kinder cash value. I was also able to use trade credit to cover most of the cost of a case, which is always a plus.
I'm hopeful that this set is stronger than the BFZ block cards were and the prices don't tank so drastically.
I agree, there's a lot of overhype for this card, but there is also a fair deal of promise too. I think when the price does start to fall, it won't fall much.
I really can't believe they decided to stick with the current broken combos.

Good luck with your packs!
