  • posted a message on Japanese Foil Prophet of Kruphix--Clash Pack promo announced
It was just announced that Prophet of Kruphix will be printed as a foil promo with new art and the new frame in the M15 Clash Pack. Should I sell my Japanese Foil one now? Will its value likely take a major hit? (They were ~$35 on Ebay last I checked.)

From past experience, Duel Deck reprints and mass-release promos can easily preclude any chance of a price jump in the future, unless the card becomes a MAJOR staple when long out of print. (I'm looking at you, Reaper of the Wilds...)

    Thanks.

Cards like Chief Engineer and Ensoul Artifact, and good hate like Shrapnel Blast to go with it. Not to mention quite a few powerful artifacts. Could there be an Equipment matters subtheme in Khans? It would make sense in a war-torn plane where many rival factions are constantly battling.

Thanks. I guess I'll just hang onto it for a while until I can find someone who *really* wants it.

  • posted a message on Apocalypse Spanish Box?
I just won an auction on Ebay at $125 for a sealed Spanish box of Apocalypse. I have a few questions:
1: Was this a good deal? English boxes are pushing $300, for comparison.
2: Should I open it? Are Spanish singles worth substantially less than English ones?
3: Is it worth holding onto or should I flip right away?

    Thanks for reading.

Got Power Hungry at my Target for MSRP. They didn't have Eternal Bargain or Mind Seize--not surprised. When they restock, I'll pick up Mind Seize--I don't really want the others as much.

  • posted a message on So I just scored a box of Japanese Theros...
I got mine for $105 best offer with Free Shipping. It was $125 BIN. I was comparing it to the BIN's I saw, which were closer to $150.

So I didn't get that killer of a deal? Also...my luck with foils is terrible, so I doubt I'll be cracking the box. Theros singles prices haven't hit their floor, so I'll still likely lose money if I crack it.

    Any second opinions out there?

For $105 on Ebay. Some deal, if I say so myself. The question is...should I crack it, or sit on it for a while and resell after Theros goes out of print?

Got every god except Nylea, also Xenagos, a Thoughtseize, 4 scrylands, lots of playable rares like Steam Augury, Sylvan Caryatid, Swan Song, Fleecemane Lion, Soldier of the Pantheon, and Hero's Downfall. Also Nykthos. Only noteworthy foil was a foil Rageblood Shaman ($3).

The rest were bulk rares, but overall I have to say, pretty sick box. About half of all packs had money.

Some people were comparing him to Goyf.

Not even in the same galaxy for power level...

but still, he could see MODERN play. Flample is very, very strong. Never underestimate it. Run him as a 3-of finisher/mid-curve beater, and remember that you're in the color of counterspells! Removal coming your way? Just say no. In standard, the Searing Spear retread could be a pain, but just play around it, and be ready with a counterspell if you need to.

Negate is a card. Bring it in from the board if you're up against midrange or other decks loaded with removal.

It boosts devotion to blue AND red. It's cheap, so it's a cinch to leave mana open for counterspells and removal on your opponent's turn. Spellslinging should be viable, especially with the scry spells and card draw in this set. I don't think we've seen the last of Grixis or America Control. If they give us Preordain, I'll be dancing in the streets.

I still can't believe this is an uncommon. I share the majority's opinion: this could have just as easily been a rare. And I love how this amazing card will be more affordable because of this! Thanks, Wizards. You're finally showing Izzet some love after the letdown of RTR block.

No. I'm not going ballistic, I'm just trying to offer a more positive opinion here. These are way better than Guildgates, and guildgates are playable. A guildgate is "1: Fix your mana next turn." Nothing else. Scry keeps you from flooding and also tucks dead draws. The versatility is important.
As for the "can't be countered" bit, I'm pointing out that the scry isn't tied to a spell. Magma Jet, for example, is powerful and is definitely worth countering. It "actually" has an effect beyond the scry. But then, so does mana fixing. These lands aren't just "1: Scry 1." They also have a useful effect, which is fixing your mana. It's not a valid comparison. If this were an artifact that cost 1 and had scry 1 as ETB, then it could be countered, screwing you out of the scry. A land can't. Get the point?

Since they're the best duals we have in the new format, they will be played cause that's all we have. It doesn't matter that they're weaker than checks, because they don't coexist in the same standard. They're playable, and they will be played.

I have to admit, I HATED these lands for the first 10 minutes after I saw them spoiled. But once I had time to rub some brain cells together...

Seriously? These lands are unplayable jank? They're FREE SCRY. FREE. SCRY. That costs NO MANA, can't be countered, and can go in ANY DECK. That's INSANE.

They help you hit your curve. They dig for answers. In slower decks, ETBT is hardly crippling. We still have shocks in the format. And they are never totally dead draws because they essentially thin your deck.

In 2 color, that's EIGHT extra scry 1's. Don't underestimate library manipulation, especially in colors like red that don't usually get it.

Welp. Time to wait for an official ruling on this. In the meantime, watch out for instant-speed removal.
