The land base is probably way off. Obzedat is the only white in the main deck, but hard casting him is going to be a necessity at times so I want to make sure hitting WW isn't going to be too difficult. Green is important, but less so in multiple.
I'm going to try Deathrite over Caryatid and Lotleth over Desecration Demon for now. With 8 salvage effects, chances are much higher than previously of Deathrite ramping (Mulch never let the lands hit the graveyard), and we don't really need him every turn. Desecration Demon is great for a Rock deck where the board is thin and you can pressure an opponent, and makes a killer finisher, but I don't see him working well for this style of deck. We can't afford enough point removal to keep the board clear, and Demon makes an awful defender. Lotleth is there for stalling the board, and pitching Obzedat for the Whip to find.
Shadowborn Demon is also in the main as insurance against digging all of our kill effects into the graveyard. There's already more spells in the deck than I'd prefer, but at least it gives me a way to nekrataal someone with a Whip if I have to do it.
There could be some space for Deathrite, but why over Caryatid? Deathrite obviously has more versatility, but Caryatid is better at blocking small creatures if needed and with hexproof is guaranteed to stick on the board. Both of those get us closer to the goal of casting our big cards.
On an unrelated note, I cannot decide between Alms Beast and Desecration Demon. Desecration is great for forcing sacrifices, but is susceptible to being shutdown later. Alms Beast with the whip out is a non-negligible life gain. Anyone have thoughts on this?
This really seems like the most competitive version I've seen. However, what is Everyone thoughts on Golgari Charm and Nemesis of Mortals? It seems like both of them could work pretty well. The Nemesis may be counter intitiuve sometimes, but if you are throwing a lot of creatures into the graveyard via Salvage or Commune, it could be useful. I like Golgari Charm for the Enchantment Destruction and Regeneration aspects of it.
This post is kind of buried back on page 3 of the standard deck creation forum, and I agree that it is one of the stronger lists I've seen. Personally I took out Pharika's Mender as I'm not sure about it yet.
However I feel like the biggest thing is that 3 Lifebane Zombie is necessary. 3 power evasive creature and it takes out one of the big threats to the deck, which is scavenging ooze.
EDIT: After rereading the original posts, maybe Mender is a pretty good idea, I haven't tried against too much enchantment hate and Mender will be able to bring back the whip.
