  • posted a message on Assistance please - my wife gave me a Nether Void and I need help finding it a good home!
    Hello all,

Recently I have come into possession of a Nether Void my wife got me for Christmas (yay!) however the initial deck I utilized it in Mishra, Artificer Prodigy fell short in my competitive meta.

    Meta:
~Ezuri UG Wizards (G is used for ramp & tutor while Ezuri gives access to counters for sage of hours and fathom mage - it actually seems more cutthroat than Azami)
    ~Two Tasigur control decks
    ~Krenko goblin rush & combo
    ~Derevi resource denial
    ~Meren reanimator
    ~Kozilek turbo ramp
    ~Animar

I would love to find a good home for this Nether Void, but I am struggling trying to tune a deck to the level needed to do well consistently. I've considered using it in a Staxx based build or enchantress style deck with Humility, but I am curious what the fine community here thinks would be best. Here is a list of the decks I can/have built on my Tapped Out profile for reference: http://tappedout.net/users/stubear89/ and any card is at the very least eventually accessible as there is a local vendor with access to anything (that's how I traded for my Mishra's Workshop this summer) so suggestions like, "Well you could play _____ as commander but you would need to add a tabernacle," are fine to make as I can save and trade for it sooner or later.

Thank you for your time in reading and I appreciate any and all suggestions!

Except that pretty much every tier 1 deck under the sun laughs at Mana Leak. Every time I've played Junk and saw my opponent playing with Mana Leaks, I knew I was basically given a free win.

As far as the discussion on top 8s go: that's laughable. Top eights mean nothing. The real results come from meta shares, top 16-32, day 2s, etc. Decks the consistently go deep but dont win are good decks. You dont know how many of those decks missed a top deck or got a gameloss or any random thing and could have easily won the event with a bit of luck on their side. But as far as top eights are concerned, look at GP Omaha (right before Tcruise ban). In a format "entirely dominated" by Pod and Tcruise, only two Delver decks and a single Pod deck top eighted. The other five decks were unique. So take from that what you will.

Nobody relevant cares about who finished 2nd. The only thing that matters is the winner. You don't care who got to the super bowl but lost, so why would you care about a top 16 placement? Its literally irrelevant.

This is the silliest thing I have ever seen. The winner doesn't matter as much as the top 16 if you want real data from a GP. When naya blitz won a large tournament for standard it did not mean naya blitz was the tier 1, it just got hot and finished on top (making it a viable archetype but not necessarily the best). If one burn deck wins the next GP but 15 out of the 16 decks at the top are all junk, then junk clearly is the better deck to have out lasted the field that consistently. The sample size of just winning three times in top 8 is too small (especially when chances are it is against fewer archetypes in top 8 than in the rounds previous) vs 15 rounds prior. I'd rather play a deck that put 8 13-2 lists into the tournament than one that went 13-2 and won the whole thing after top 8-ing on tiebreakers. So it is relevant if an archetype wins the whole thing sure, but not as relevant as which deck consistently can put players in the position to top 8 (which is what top 16/32 results show).

so people expected every rare in MM2015 to be valuable and the hoarders to not take the product and make the packs cost 2x as much as they did with MM1? Okay...

  • posted a message on Why the lore/flavor points to enemy fetches in Dragons of Tarkir
Now, I want to preface this by saying this is not a, "I'm in the know, or I know a guy who knows a guy..." etc. This is why I believe and am 100% certain that fetches will be in set three of Dragons of Tarkir.

Khans of tarkir had the allied fetches featuring the dead allied colored dragons from Fate Reforged. Now, the clans have dropped their enemy color in the recent lore for the upcoming Dragons of Tarkir set, where each clan appears to now follow a dragon. This coincides with Maro saying that set three is not a wedge set, since it would be the five allied factions. While this points in the opposite direction of an enemy mana base, the flavor from Khans of Tarkir begins to shine through. The reason being is now dead are the, "rebellious clan heads," who were what held them into the enemy colors since the clans dropped them after the leaders died. The time shifted lands no longer have the bones of the dragons, there is no more flooded strand or polluted delta. Instead, set three will have the enemy fetches (Zendikar ones) featuring the Khans's grave sites.

Wizard's list is old. Metalworker was unbanned two banlist updates ago. Check http://mtgcommander.net/rules.php for the up to date version.

Whoops, thank you for that clarification, my apologies!

Metalworker is banned in multiplayer EDH (http://archive.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Resources.aspx?x=magic/rules/100cardsingleton-commander)

It is legal in singleton but not in multiplayer.

So last year Wizards unbanned Nactyl and Bitterblossom to try and add Zoo and Fae to the meta and they never took. With Pod out of the way, both now have much more likely opportunities to arise, though Fae is less likely, probably needing Jace or Visions unbanned to beef its control shell. Still, it is an overall exciting time for modern because the meta will be drastically different now and possibly again at the next B&R announcement, which is the one I expect will have more unbannings.

Before KTK it seemed so obvious that pod would be banned come january but when people lamented TC, I assumed Wizards was going to ignore the elephant in the room. And unless you just bought into pod when pontiff was $12, collections didn't just die. NH will still be $55-70, Voice wont drop, Pod will go from $8 to $5 because edh and casual will keep it there, and edh will keep Thune in double digits. The overall price of the deck won't take much of a hit and they keep the Abzan land base still. I'm glad I traded my pontiffs a month and a half ago, but otherwise I don't expect the only pricy cards in pod to take much of a hit. And playing with the modern survival of the fittest for most of the year after the DRS ban, I knew it would eventually go but I did not want to sell off because it was more important to play the most powerful option. All pod players made that call, even knowing that it was pure fire we were playing with.

As with what others have said, I am going to go move into a BGx shell, most likely Abzan.

It was either or maro or Forsythe who said last year, "onslaught fetches sooner rather than later, zendikar later rather than sooner." Most likely, next fall when zendikar is most likely to return (7 year cycle of return) will be zendikar fetches. Not to mention they currently will have in standard 5 enemy pain lands, 5 allied fetches, & 10 temples. They will not give one set of buddies/enemies 5 more lands that aren't in block flavor (meaning the 5 tri-color lands are the only exception).

The best chance this movie has is the Brother's War simply because it would need the fewest exposition to explain things. "Long ago an ancient civilization called the thran lived in splendor with powerful machines. Now, we artifacers try and find these machines and build our own based on their ancient constructs." Boom - flash to young Mishra and Urza and the whole lore unfolds for them as a proper protagonist should (see Luke Skywalker learning about what Jedi are, physically seeing aliens, etc.). We even get to introduce the Phyrexians and planeswalkers with literally no stoppage in the movie for explanation, because the first shows up and Urza becoming one can show the audience what it means. It is a well paced story that would work the best as a movie.

If they go with a story with Jace for instance, we have to give some background on what he is being a planeswalker and what is going on. I feel starting with the brothers war would most assuredly give the movie its best chance.

Okay, I have now found the true story, okay?

What I was told while I was there was that it was someone from Wizards by multiple people who were there (so was I, but I was still playing on day 2) but I have heard from one of the vendors who lowered the cards. It was not a Wizards representative, there was a card allegedly leaked in Japanese. One vendor in particular had the card translated specifically as an onslaught fetch. Right when they found this, multiple vendors cut onslaught fetches and one guy bought every single DRS at the GP. He went to every booth and bought what they had. All of this is true according to one of the vendors from GP Chicago.

Where I join all of you in being doubtful is I have yet to find an image of the leaked card and it seems against Wizards' MO. So, yes I'm not saying, "oh I've seen it, it's there," but what I am saying is why would a lot of rational people suddenly make such knee jerk reactions?

I do apologize for the initial source being incorrect, that was what was told to me but the rest of the evidence I saw first hand and knew that part to be true. This however is the, "correct," source, but I cannot validate the leaked card as real because I have yet to find it. All I wanted to even initially say is a lot of stores and some speculators seem to think this was real, everyone maybe keep your eye out.

I'm skeptical at best. Even if the fetches were in M15, which I doubt, I can't see them only printing the allied half of the cycle, based on their new policy of equalizing enemy and allied color pairings when it comes to mana fixing.

That was what I said when I was first told (wizards stopping land cycles in core sets, wizards does not like life loss in core sets, DRS still is in standard with shocks) but I saw the prices dip and it seemed too odd not to be mentioned. When no one posted it, I figured I'd at least alert the community. Like I said, I'm not trying to troll, I just wanted to report on an underlying story from the Chicago GP on Sunday.

Scg has cut the near mint from over $100 to 99, which is less than TCG mid at this point. They still are trying to move product. If anyone in the midwest is familiar with Pink Bunny games, they slashed their's online from the news as well. I'm not trying to stir the pot because I still am not convinced a set of lands will be in the coreset but I am saying it is becoming a substantiated rumor.

    Hello all,

On day two of GP Chicago, a Wizards rep visited the vendors. After speaking to them, SCG and the local vendors cut the price of Onslaught Fetches by up to $30 a fetch, most notably on Polluted Delta. According to one of the shop keeps that I know, they confirmed the Wizards rep said that Onslaught fetches will be in the core set. Vendors don't usually have such a knee-jerk reaction to things, so I feel this is a strong confirmation of the buddy fetches entering standard & modern. Also, DRS is going to be insane if true for standard.

So just cause you guys couldn't get MM 1st time at walmart or even MSRP, no one around one of your shops opened it? I traded my gaea's cradle from when I was a little kid and played before I quit for one and change, two voices and a dread bore (when voice was $55 and goyf was $110) for #2, a bunch of standard stuff for #3, and a stack of shocks last summer for goyf #4. MM was a heavily drafted format with a lot of players just playing it for limited that never play or planned to play modern. I was able to get into modern thanks to MM which at the time lowered staples and in my area suddenly allowed a lot of people the ability to trade into the format.

As for standard, the whole, "mono B dies because demon, vault, and pack rat rotate," is really, really stupid. We have no idea what is in Khans, Herald of Torment is still a good option for BB devotion, and black will get some kind of draw effect again. As for right now, LotV is massive card advantage with underworld connections. Standard right now is on a power de-creep with black being the best color...and you people want LotV, the second best walker all time to come back? That's like asking for JtMS during Uw delver, sheesh.
