For Voice you must have splash red for your deck and have 4+ pillars of flame to deal with it. It is even then still very tricky to deal with.

Mono black hasnt been well positioned for awhile, so people arent coming here to play a veyr competitive deck, mono black is just a very unique playstyle that can still win by catching people off guard.

As promised. Assuming you have all these cards of course.

Added a couple devour flesh. I hate hex proof and this is better in that regard. Dropped 1 victim of night. Too many vamps and zombies out these for this to be a 3 of IMO. Dropped a gloom surgeon since in my experience 4 is too many and he is often sideboarded out vs any deck other than a fast aggro one. But he's still good so I like to keep 3 in. Consuming abberation is just a beast and its a different win con. The extra mill helps. I also removed far/away. If you have multiple creatures to deal with and 5 mana open just mutilate. Also bouncing anything other than tokens is usually counter productive with all the Entering/leaving the battlefield perks these critters have. For the SB I moved your counters and added illness and pillar for tokens and the troublesome undying and VoR that is everywhere now. Slaughter games is a must have for any B/R and notion thief is fun vs control. Really slows them down with just the threat of him. Pithing needle is in my mind almost a must have in SB's now.

I like your ideas here, your right about Victim of night, devour is much better.

Anyways heres a report of my lovely tournament going 1-3 Frown

Game 1: Reanimator: we both got up to speed quickly, I got Lilliana online, and was able to find a ton of swamps and get some ridiclous mutilates that then turned into 2 seperate crypt incursions each for 20+ life. He got good board presence for a 3rd time, and I could not keep up. Was a 40 minute game. Round 2 he boarded in a **** ton of fast creatures and I boarded out surgeons............ Ouch.

Game 2: U/W/R Midrange. Game 1 was very quick, 2 reckoners got removed then a Desecration Demon beat the **** out of him. He had some land problems. Next game was very close, he got his aetherling down first and beat me to it. Game 3 was horrid, I mulliganed to 6 and as I was putting my cards down somebody asked me a question, I anwsered the question and pulled up my hand to find 7 cards in it.... forced mull to 5. He got online then got assemble the legion and rolled me. Very upsetting.

Game 3: U/W/R control Game 1 was long and drawn out, he kept dispelling while I kept killing any creatures and stocking up on land. Countered a sphinx Rev and then later RR him to 2. Next turn he got a land and was at two cards and I took a big risk and tried Sire, but he had the dissipate. Then Assemble came down and owned. Game 2 I dont remember much, it was a similair situation where he burned me bad, tried a desperate sire and got countered again.

Game 4: After losing 3 in a row I talked to some of the people and they gave me a lot of suggestions to go down more into control and work on the mill. So I went two Memory adept and added a nicol bolas for additional wincon heh. I added turn//burns and lots of other removal and got rid of alot of my creatures. I played a Junk Token deck, and destroyed it easy. Dreadbore killed his Sorins, Mutilate cleaned tokens, and Desecration Demons beat the **** out of him.

Pretty rough 2 weeks of losing a ton, However, I really had a good time with this deck, way more fun than turning stuff sideways. I love the Grixis colors, It just doesnt get the job done that the other main stream decks do. I am going to keep trying to refine this and see what I can do with it. Here is my new list, that I am going to try at the next tourney.

The theme here is for more planeswalkers and ramp with keyrune. Planeswalkers seem so good for Grixis, as I can keep em up with the removal I have. And they stop that horrible feeling of, "I can kill anything! ... except his life total o.0" I am keeping the nighthawks for life gain and the desecration demon for some good midrange. , with an Olivia, and an Aetherling as my creature finisher. The one problem I forsee tho is maybe not having enough card draw. I am a fan of the double fuse cards, Far//Away is so good, kills token stuff espcially Advent of the wurm, Sacing is always great espcially vs 2 creature fields, and Far can save some creatures to. Turn//Burn is a monster helping me vs Thragtusks and other annoying ****.

    What do you guys think?

Great suggestions, I forgot about the 3 u you really need with aetherling. I think I'm going to go in the middle ground and go 2 aetherling and add 1-2 islands for more reliable casting. 3 is way to many aetherlings tho.

I am also considering a sire of insanity over rakdos return the 6/4 body and perma hand sack seems good. He may be to costly tho.

I like your sideboard ideas. I am also going to put duress in for control.

Yea jave and the drown yards are another win condition in the deck. They have good synergy with crypt incursion for massive life gain. I like them as they are give me more options when the board gets locked up or cleared from mutilate. Back when I played MBC with red I would always find myself having good board presence with the demon but no way to push the advantage over the top. So that's why I am trying have and drownyard

Running this list tommorow, any thoughts before I take it in?

Havent decided on a sideboard yet. This is the first build with minimal testing.
I dont have Lilliana of the veil due to $ so dark realms is in there. This deck kinda follows what Tatebomb is doing with B/U, but doesnt give up the RR and dreadbore. No griselbrand, as IMO aetherling is a way better finisher as he can actually stick. Lots of nasty stuff in this deck, I dont know how the synergy will be tho. On the little testing ive done, think twice seems a bit slow for the deck. Id rather get the 2 cards for 2 life. I was also thinking about the Staff of Nin, but I have so many expensive win cons already it just seems that if I get to that point I will be good to go anyway. I am scared vs control with this deck. Any dispel will hurt very bad.

What do you guys think? I know its Grixis colors, but its definately MBC at heart.

Yea it appears this way, I think I am going to switch to dark bant control for a week or two and see how this deck progresses in the meta

My gut feeling is that this deck is going to go off the radar real quick tho, I think the problem is that the deck blew up too quickly for its own good. I think this deck is gonna get get even more hate and the problem is that it does not have the consistency and adaptability of something like jund or reanimator.

Hello, I am brewing up a dark bant control deck.

Here's what I am looking at

    Dark bant

Basic idea is to ramp far seek into fast verdict then take control and plasma into aetherling ghost council or lord of the void. I like the resiellence of these 2 creatures I also have jace, memory adept in there for some milling and drawing. I chose lord of the void over griselbrand as it is cheaper on b mana and helps mill with jace.

Sideboard is random and needs some work. Also not so sure about the lands and if I should adjust that.

    What do you guys think?

Finally had some success with the banty chanty.

    Rough memory

Game 1: Win Bant Control: Really mean guy, right off the bat, tells me about how he saw my deck last week and how stupid it is. I got some pretty damn good hands with geist and stalkers. Baited the verdicts with stalkers finished with geists. I traded out fencing ace G1 for strangleroot, and took out an unflinching and a pilgrim for 2 negates. Beat him really fast. He got super pissed. "really good deck man!"

Game 2: Loss 4 color control: Game 1, couldnt kill him fast enough. Got some strangles out but he had pillar of flames ready. Geist got out but then got cloned(cmon new rule!) Game 2 = Thrag tusk got blinked twice nuff said.

Game 3: U/W/R control the deck I hate, Game 1 got a nuts draw and rolled him with a triple ethereal armor stalker. Game 2 he got the verdict and some counter spells in, AEtherling ruined me. Game 3 he got a bit land ****ed with no verdict, stalker takes the game.

Game 4: Some wierd Black/Green/White deck, couldnt hit any removal. Got two smiters game 1 with enchantments to roll.

Game 2 Raced with an invisible stalker with pants and won.

Made top 4 by a slim margin.

Had to play vs Reanimator in finals.

Game 1: Got Geist up to 15/12 with lifelink, and first strike. Was pretty sick, he had some thrag and resto out, but I could first stike damage his whole team o.0!.

Game 2: He got some acidic slime blinking in, killing my blue, then got thrag in GG

Game 3: Mulled down to 6. Kept a really risky 6 with lots of auras and land. Got turn 3 Smiter out. Smiter quickly got enchantments and hit him down to a lethal swing. Then he got a Gaze of Granite to sweep the board, followed by blink tusk and GG.

Im really considering 21 lands, way to much flooding over the course of the night.

Still cant decide on S.Geist and ace. My plan as of right now is always Game 1 ace for the quick pants win. Then side him out G2 for the strangle root, since alot of the midranges add more removal and sac effects come Game 2.

I got a lot of hate tonight for the deck, saying it should be banned even from other people past the game 1 guy. Anybody else getting hate?

    A bit confused here,

Is MWS a way to play online without using MTGO?

Isnt that what Cockatrice was? If so how is this still allowed?

Tried out the Fencing Aces tonight-- first in my FNM, then in our midnight Game Day. They were amazing pretty much all night and stole a lot of games I had no chance winning. I played a wide gamut of decks, from Naya Blitz to Aristocrats to Jund. I never lost a single game in either tournament-- wound up scooping to a friend in the Game Day Top 8 because he loaned me the Voices to use and I didn't really care about the playmat.

Like Fett2 and some of the others, I am now firmly in the Fencing Ace camp. The hardest decision is figuring out how to bring in Strangleroot Geists and Loxodon Smiters-- both of whom are amazing against aggro-- while leaving in the Aces, who are also amazing against them. I think the answer, ironically, is to board out at least the Invisible Stalkers, as without the right enchantments they can't even profitably stop aggro assaults.

Saw a card tonight I forgot existed-- Elgaud Shieldmate. Honestly if we were ever even remotely considering Ascended Lawmage we should've just been trying to play this chica instead-- especially considering how many great/dangerous creatures we have (Smiter, Ace, Voice) that are almost unkillable once they have hexproof. Not saying she should be included but if this deck ever evolves into an 8-mana-dork-into-Sigarda-style of deck, I think she earns slots over Lawmage.

Nice man, seems like you had a good turn around.

Seems like a VoR is a powerhouse in this deck.

Looks like I need to invest the $100+ into him Frown

    Ah,

I know with MBC decks two colors itself is pushing it, but what about splashing a bit of red for the RR and Dreadbore? Maybe like 4 Dragonskull and 2 blood crypt. Those cards are just so good for the MBC, destroys control decks and Dreadbore would be even more help vs Jund. Its okay to be weak to reanimator if your solid in so many other MU's.

    This looks nasty,

Why no blood artist? He fits in the zombie decks so well.

    Crushed FNM with this deck.

Round 1: r/g aggro. 2-1. First game he just came out guns blazing and I couldnt keep up. 2nd and 3rd game was won with a turn one slip and a turn two removal or gloom surgeon followed on turn 3 by a pilfered plans or another removal. Turn 4 either a demon or a mutilate. If not turn 4 then turn 5 or 6 with the mutilate followed up by a crypt incursion and GG.

Round 2: u/r delver sorta thing. 2-0 Not much to report here. I crushed him. Demons and aetherling really shined here.

Round 3. B/R control. 2-1 Similar to many decks in this very thread he got me game 2 with a rakdos return. Games 1 and 3 were pretty much aetherling and jace doing work.

Round 4 Aristocrats. 2-0. Fantastic games. Game one I just mutilated and crypt incursion and he couldn't overcome my massive life gain. I had gotten a jace in to mill him a couple times and he had a bunch of critters in the graveyard. Think I jumped to 60 life or so. Game two illness in the ranks did good work and a late game crypt incursion kept me alive long enough to finish him with aetherling.

    MVP's in this deck:
crypt incursion: the life gain crushed the will of aggro opponents.
Aetherling: one of the best finishers in the game.
Gloom surgeon: dude really can slow an opponents critters and give you time to wipe the board.

Wow Man, I like that deck a lot, youve inspired me to get back into MBC. Have you had any other experience with the deck vs other stuff like Jund or reanimator?

    Ugh,

    Took it in tonight.

Round 1: 10 year old girl new to magic

Round 2 15 year old guy with bad orzhov deck

Round 3: Made a massive mistake taking a draw with a Bant Midrange as we thought it would help us top 4 based on the people there. We took the draw and I proceeded to beat him 3-0 in practice

Round 4: Needed to win to make top 4 but I end up playing 4 color control that
has 4x Victim of Night, and 4x Far/Away main board............. Really really pissed me off, out of all the decks that **** came at me and 2-0ed me knocking me out of the top 4..... I sided in an extra simic charm and 2 negates but they didnt get the job done.

Really rough two tournaments and since I had to play 2 newbs, I really didnt get much more experience. Pretty upset about it, but its whatev I learned that

Never take draws until it guarantees top 4.

Control vs Bant hexproof is a slow miserable death unless they get land ****ed. The board wipe + sac stuff is killer, I dont know what to do, unless you get a god hand it seems really hard, I have yet to win vs control, so any tips here? I think the judges familiar stuff is a step in the right direction sideboard wise.
