I'm willing to shell out some cash if the deck can't play without certain staples. Based on his primer, what would you say are the most important things not to cut? Thanks for the quick reply.
Hey EDH players! I'm looking to get started in the format without spending too much money, although I'm sure after I upgrade things over the months it will end up costing quite a bit more. My starting budget is 100 dollars. I was browsing the internet for a general, and the idea of using Isamaru, Hound of Konda really appealed to me. I'm not expecting to win a lot of games, just to have fun and be able to interact. I assume it would be a voltron strategy at it's core. Anyways, I'm completely new to the format, and I have no idea where to start. Would you guys be able to give me some basic lists or suggestions for cards? I really appreciate it, and I'm excited to get into the new format.
This deck looks interesting, but I don't think it has any good matchups. It can get outblitzed, and can get hit hard by counters. I'm interested to see where future versions go, as well as seeing some tournament results. I'll build the deck and start testing!
I really like that list, and it looks like a lot of fun to play. I will sleeve up some proxies and do testing! If I have money for it, would you suggest 12-post instead of Urzatron?
I've seen the deck done without Metalworkers, but monoliths are a must for it to work. The meta is mostly other budget decks, although there are one of two competitive tier one decks there.
I was recently reading the primer for MUD stompy on here, and it seemed like a fun deck to play. I tested it a few times with proxies, and it was amazing! It currently costs more than $1000, so this will definitely be hard. Is there any way to make this work with, say, a $400 dollar budget? Thanks!
I'm also pretty new to the legacy scene, so bear with me if I don't figure some things out.
Tweaked it a bit for a more reliable early game, hopefully.
So... Uhhhh... How about that land count? With only 18, you have enough creature based mana and fixing, but it's also really hard to actually get the second land for Carytid/Gatecreeper. Some stuff needs to come out for more land, in my opinion. Very interesting take the the strategy though.
I tested the deck in your first post a few times, it's a lot of fun to play. It gets hit really hard by boardwipes and removal though. When the combo gets going, its amazing and really strong. If your combo gets disrupted or you don't draw it, you lose. There needs to be something to make this more consistent.
Magna, does your build on the top of this page have enough card draw? The only things I can see are Kiora and Urban Evolution. I feel like sometimes you would get good draws and have easy wins, but the lack of card draw would really hurt consistency. I am pro-Steam Augury. I feel like there should also be something repeatable as well.
Okay, so this might take it a little bit out of budget, but running 60 cards makes your chances of getting the apostles you need at the end of turn 3 relatively low. Mathematically, because you need to run the demons and stuff, having the most cards possible with the best land to apostle ratio would work better. Preferably, you would have several thousand cards, with the demon toolbox stuck on the end. The deck isn't going to win any major tournaments, but that's the most efficient way overall to make it the most consistent.
My god, that is the awesomest wincon I have ever seen. The cards are also relevant to the core strategy. Your colors are waaaaay better than mine. I would like to give you a hug, and invite you into my fort of pillows. How does this deck do against aggro or control? Aggro seems like it could outrace you on a few bad draws, and control seems like it just makes most of your deck useless. I have a few revs lying around, where would they fit in (I know, not good for budget).
Edit: Sorry, I was too taken with the sheer awesomeness of your deck that I didn't read the whole post. Ignore what I said about matchup questions. Have you considered Claustrophobia instead of some of the mana changers?
Stab Wound is interesting, but I feel like it would kill a lot of things and be very situational. Raka works, but assemble the legion is really all it gets. Wincons are pretty easy to come by, so there's no point in splashing for one.
Sounds like a lot of fun! :3. Sadly, it has no hexproof, making it kind of hard for this type of gameplan. I've done some work, and will probably have a pretty bad list up tomorrow. I am really into this deck :3.
Edit: needs more verdict.
