I know this thread gets updated irregularly, but I lurk and like to keep an eye on it because it's such a neat, different deck. With Magic Origins on the way thought I would link a new card for us to consider
To be fair, this is a land drop, whereas the Hive costs 5 to deploy in the first place. Also, as others as noted, it's unlikely the sliver you create is actually going to be a vanilla 1/1.
Ever seen those gold bordered cards? Those come from sets of "World Championship Decks" that Wizards put out years ago. They commemorated great decks the World Championships of a given year. Now, these decks are many years old and the game has greatly evolved in that time, but it made me think... how could they be updated? I happen to own all four 1998 decks, so I thought it would be interesting to go through each deck and update them with the best cards possible, while keeping the spirit of the deck intact. Therefore, I begin with the fourth deck of the 1998 series, Randy Buehler's Twelth Place "Draw Go" deck.
Basically, this mono blue deck counters everything you do, then gets a draw engine at six mana with Whispers. Win con is a slow beat down with Rainbow Efreett or Stalking Stones. I propose we rebuild it, legacy rules, to be the best mono-blue-ridiculously-overstocked-with counterspells-and-man-lands deck it can be.
To get us started, let's consider the 21 counters themselves. Force of Will and Cryptic Command seem like obvious picks.
And how about those manlands? The appeal of Stalking Stones, often forgotten, is that they are permanently creatures. It's not until end of turn. Still, I can see the appeal of Mishra's Factory or even Dread Statuary. What are your thoughts?
I am a long time lurker with like two posts to my name... but I logged in just to say you should really reconsider Tangle Wire. I run a similar 16 post colorless deck and the card works wonders. Your early turns will often see little action... against an aggressive, fast deck you can struggle. This card shuts them down, while doing little for you. Consider if you go first
Turn 1: Cloudpost tapped. Opponent plays whatever.
Turn 2: Glimmerpost. 21 life and play Tangle Wire. Opponent taps four permanents. FOUR. They probably don't even have four yet.
Turn 3: Remove a counter, tap Tangle Wire itself, then tap two permanents. Opponent taps three.
etc etc...
It's a very one-sided card. Not counting the Wire itself, you end up tapping three permanents total. The opponent taps ten.
Dragon decks are always fun (and this very site has a great primer on it) but I wanted to a do a different twist... give it an artifact focus. Off the top of my head, I created this...
As you can see, the idea is straight-forward, heavy beaters made faster by the presence of artifacts, with alt-win condition of Hellkite Tyrant (helped by Mycosynth Lattice).
Clearly this is a casual deck, but I'd still like to make the idea as viable as possible. Any ideas? I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Hi all! Found this forum recently and decided I ought to join proper. Apologies if this is the wrong place... I assume Legacy is right because pretty sure this deck has cards too old for Modern, although I'd love to get it into Modern.
Now, you've already read the title. I know, I know. Life Gain. Not very competitive. So this might almost be better suited for the Casual forum... but I'm convinced it can be at least somewhat viable! I've been playing around with the following...
So far it works fairly well. Once it gets going, it gets great momentum, but it can be slow to start. Earlier fliers in particular can be nasty. But it's got multiple win conditions:
-A big aggro smack. The Pridemates can get huge, as well as the Avatar of course. I added the Warhammer to give some trample so they don't just chump blocked.
-Chalice of Life (and Death) if I can't hit them for some reason.
-Lifegain itself with Test of Endurance or Felidar Soverign
A few questions off the top of my head...
Mother of Runes is great... but wasted here?
Should I have more removal (Swords, Path, etc)?
Should I bother with the Chalices?
Thunderclap Wyvern
In case card linking isn't working yet for this new card, I've attached an image. Thoughts?
