Pick 4 out of the following please to fit into the Tempo and Flier archetype for Blue 2/1 fliers.

    Hypnotic sprite
    Skyclave Aerialist
    Skyship Plunderer
    Stormchaser Drake
    Zephyr Sentinel
    Zephyr Winder

    important Context:
    • Currently there are no +1/+1 counters decks of focus but rather they are incidental synergies in my cube.
    • Fliers is the main archetype for UW and this often is the staple cards to getting that aggro going in the decks it seems.
    • there are currently 0 combat tricks in blue and in the cube overall there are 12 main tricks.
    • Cube size is 460 and is mostly higher powered with only 6 cards cut for power concerns.

I remember coming across a This or That discussion at some point but don't recall if it was its own thread or not. I was wondering what other people thought about:

Fireblade Artist vs. Slaughter-Priest of Mogis

I keep going back forth and can't really make up my mind. In calibretto's amazing MTGS Average Peasant Cube 2022 thread, Fireblade Artist is vastly more popular (9 cubes vs. 1 cube) but the threat of activation on the Slaughter-Priest seems so useful. I suppose it does open you up to being two-for-one'd if your opponent blocks with what would be a trade, you sac something for first strike and then they have a removal spell.

Anyone else ever consider these two against one another?

I just made another thread for it as it was for sure removed.

This is the thread for simple cutting questions. Examples of the kind of questions that belong in this thread are.

Should I run card Ω or Card ♂.

    Pick 2 of 3
    Card π
    Card Φ
    Card ♀

Try to give a bit of context if you can around what you are looking for in that card slot.

That's really funny. Someone asked me two days ago if we should get a wrath. I said Kirtar's Wrath, and that I don't think we should get 5 mana wraths. Now we have 2 new sixes. Happy Leelue

Same. I've been championing Kirtar's and Rain of Daggers for peasant for a while

Well an auto include for me just got downshifted to uncommon.

    Anafenza, Kin-Tree Spirit

I'm so hyped about all the counters combos that become available for the format. This now makes it the 5th(?) source of add a +1/+1 counter on etb for persist creatures.

    Rakka Mar just got downshifted.

Now that I had a client cancel on me I wanted to talk more about this. I think Rakka is enough of an aggro pressure card that I think it might be worth it. While it is kinda slow on the turn 4 I think this might give aggro some closing power but it might also be a few years too late given how the power creep has been in peasant

Well It's Master's Season which means its also downgrades season. Anyone want to call your shots now that themes are released for the set about what they thin might get downgraded?

I'm so hyped about Kirtar's Wrath getting downshifted. Its been one of two wrath spells I've felt are okay at Uncommon for a long time and I'm just excited to see it lowered. It will be a snap include into my cube.

    For standard Peasant Cube:

Reprieve: Snap include for me. I am playing with Peasant power in my cube so this slots in perfectly.

Stern Scolding: I love this. I wish we got more cards that play in this space of power and toughness mattering. This hits 151 out of my 206 creatures out of a 460 cube which is solid numbers for a specific counterspell.

Rally at the Hornburg: I love making tokens especially in WR and honestly I love the fact Humans matters is showing up ever so slightly as I do find Humans a fun tribe to have in the list.

    NOW ONTO TURBO CUBE:

Eagles of the North: More land-type cyclers which become another way to reduce land count in your deck. Now that I will have 3 full cycles of these I think I'll cut fetchlands and add back in the shocks to balance out the fetching.

Reprieve: White counterspells help the White control deck heavily. Its an easy add for me as more interaction is key to balancing white in the cube.

Samwise the Stouthearted: for a single W Samwise can return any of the cantripping artifacts like Chromatic Star or cranial achieve to play at instant speed. It will be a welcome addition even though it makes me play the ring tempts you.

Gandalf, Friend of the shire: A possible addition to the cube as for a single U to allow decks to up the tempo of their plays. Also the body is decently sized for the single mana and might help slow the aggro decks.

Lórien Revealed: The first monocolored basic land cycler that isn't a creature. I'm adding it to the cube even thought its just another draw spell that's mediocre as it is ramp or draw depending what the user needs.

Saruman the white: This card seems to be a solid engine with ward which is much stronger in this format than most settings. However I'm not 100% sure the power is fully there yet.

Mirkwood Bats: HOT DAMN I AM EXCITED FOR THIS. Treasure tokens are a very common on this setting and the withering this card will have on players seems way too good. Additionally this has flying which is surprisingly uncommon in this setting compared to normal peasant cubes.

Troll of Khazad-Dûm: Reanimator is going to love this card. Its a swamp-cycler which means its always in our graveyard which is huge. I keep thinking about adding more reanimator support given all our land type cycler creatures and this one is one of my favorites as the triple menace makes it nearly unblockable in the format.

Oliphaunt: Its thicc and hurts when it attacks. Not much more needs to be said.

Rising of the Day: This is borderline useable and I think it might make the cut but its going to be tough.

Generous Ent: Seems super solid for a land cycler not much mroe needs to be said on this.

Rise of the Witch King: A decent Reanimator card which feels like it might be worth it to run over the Rotwidow pack.

Lembas: Really solid food for free.

shire Scarecrow:A mox every turn. Love it.

Stone of Erech: DAYUMMM solid gravehate and it cantrips.

It looks like a solid draft. My only thoughts are what is your kill condition? if its just the big creatures often that can be solid but given how many will sub in for land in early turns that is one thing that might be concerning mid game (ie turn 3)

Thankfully Turn 1 kills are very rare as they require a near perfect 7 cards. That said turn 2 kills are currently common enough that they have warranted a few cards be cut from the cube due to power level. I have been messing with the idea of the player on the draw has a treasure that says sacrifice this at the end of turn so they can interact. Still not sold on it but its being tested. If this cube is interesting enough I can always make a separate thread to discuss this in greater detail.

So I don't know If I have talked about my Turbo cube before on Sally but the premise is that its a peasant cube where everyone gets an emblem at the start of the game with the following text: "All spells and activated abilities you control cost 3 less." All that said it shifts how I evaluate cards for the cube compared to my normal peasant cube so lets go with my thoughts.

Do you have a link for this? I could imagine building something similar

I now have two Cubes at Peasant level (Normal and Turbo) so I will make my includes separate as these have vastly different rules.

    Normal Cube:

Coppercoat Vanguard - I run 55 humans in my normal cube out of 460 cards. I think that I will include the Coppercoat given its a bonus lord effect for the one tribe that constantly gets more creatures and possibilities at peasant.

Feast of the Victorious Dead - I might test this one. Its big downside is that it is kinda do nothing on it's own but it plays well into lifegain, aristocrats, and +1/+1 counters which all are things I keep in mind in Black and White in my cube so its tough but I'll test it.

Outside of that nothing is tickling my fancy for normal cube.

    NOW ONTO TURBO!!!!

Harnessed Snubhorn: a 2/5 Vigilant creature for W is a decent rate in the cube but the ability is huge in this cube as there is a high density of artifacts in the cube due to the free nature of artifacts spells MV 3 or less. This will likely make the cube.

Campus Renovations: Refurbish + light up the stage for WR feels like a great rate. This one will need to be tested but I think it's worth a spot.

I still very much on the Shivan Dragon should be uncommon

We got a few more additions with the Shadows of the Past bonus sheets.

    Séance
    Sever the Bloodline
    Somberwald Sage

I'm not sure any of them make my cube to be honest but I will say I was disappointed to see mayor of avabruck and Angel of Flight Alabaster both get reprinted at rares as they seemed like cool cards to downshift in the given the recent power upgrades over the years.
