Whoops, you guys are correct; I read Skinrender as "put a -1/-1 counter on three target cretures" instead of "put three -3/-3 counters on target creature".
You'd get to eventually draw two cards if you wanted to:
1. Wall of Omens ETB (Mentor of the Meek already there)
2. Wall of Omen's ETB trigger goes on stack at the same time that Mentor of the Meek's triggered ability does. Since you control both sources, you can choose which goes on first (but it really doesn't matter with these two since they don't affect the board state or each other in any way save for in niche cases.)
3. The first ability resolves
4. The second ability resolves
Note that you choose to pay :1: for MotM when his ability resolves, not when it goes on the stack.
Yup (to the article being outdated). Before, damage was put on the stack, so you could do something like this:
1. Declare attackers, blockers, Giant Growth, blah blah
2. Damage step, damage on the stack
3. While damage on the stack, Unsummon my Grizzly Bear, which was blocking your 3/2
4. Unsummon resolves, Bear back in my hand
5. Damage resolves. Your 3/2 takes 2 from my bear, but deals no damage since it was blocker, and its blocker is no longer on the field.
People really took advantage of this with cards that had activated self-sac abilities (Sac this creature: do stuff), especially when the ability dealt damage, so they would block a creature, sac their blocker, and then deal damage to kill another creature for easy 2 for 1's.
But now damage just happens, and would be dealt (with both the bear and your opponent's 3/2 dead) before anyone could make another play.
Yeah, now that you mention it, those are definitely the dates for Gatecrash.
I've never been more excited for a prerelease. I mean, I haven't been playing for that long, but the whole cooperative maze thing is really interesting. I wonder if they'll normalize the guild teams to make it more fair.
Nice! Now if we find the probability of any of those scenarios occuring (ie probability that you will have 50 cards in deck with 19 of them being instants/sorceries), then we can find a weighted average for the percentage chance that you'll draw at least one instant/sorcery out of the three from Augur; that should represent said percentage at any given point during the match.
This is a very interesting question, and makes me wonder how many other cards can be confusing when played in other formats.
No, Dark Imposter wouldn't have Trostani's activated ability. The choice to put your Commander from either the graveyard or from exile to the Commander Zone is a replacement effect ("instead"):
419.5. If an event is prevented or replaced, it never happens. A modified event occurs instead, which may in turn trigger abilities. Note that the modified event may contain instructions that can't be carried out, in which case the player simply ignores the impossible instruction.
Thus, Trostani was never exiled.
It's similar to how regenerating a creature wouldn't trigger any "Whenever a creature is destroyed" abilities.
That's helpful, but only in that niche scenario. A better way to visualize Augur's usefulness would be to create a probability density map; there's only three variables (library size, instants/sorceries in library, and probability of draw), one of which (probability) is a function of the other two, so that works out easily.
Ultimate Price resolves, killing AoS and sending her to the GY
AoS's leave the battlefield trigger goes on the stack
AoS's leave the battlefield trigger resolves, but nothing happens because nothing is exiled yet
AoS's ETB trigger resolves and up to three other target creatures are exiled
If you Ultimate Price AoS in response to the trigger, the creatures will be permanently exiled. If you don't want that to happen, then UP the Angel after her ETB trigger has resolved.
AoGR's ETB trigger resolves, and zombies are exiled/humans enter the GY
The key to both of these is that abilities, once activated or triggered, exist independent of their source. If they're already on the stack, then they'll resolve even if their source is destroyed.
Sphinx's Revelation is obviously a huge bomb in Standard, and in a vaccum it looks like a great card. My concern with it, though, is how fast Modern is as a format, and how slow SR can be; you usually want to play it at X=3 for a good balance of timing and effect.

Is this correct?
Also, any word on how this maze thing will work for MTGO?

Thoughts? Is it worth playing in this format?
