The End of an Era

It's interesting to hear people parrot "he has a target on his back so he's unplayable". What does that even mean? So does nightveil spector then or any other card that makes a player go "ah fck". He's a 3 drop win condition, you're damn right he's gonna get doomblade on him so does boros reckoner or any other card that screws up the board state. That is just the strangest defense I've ever heard for not liking a card.

At any rate as kuro said he's a pretty nasty board lock if you're running ajani and or spear of heliod. I noticed basically any deck has to have an answer for him with in 2 turns or he becomes a fortress meanwhile if you are running a creature deck he walls up the board allowing you to rebuild your board state. I had a couple monoblack players complain that if you're running him and ajani it become very difficult to choose how to blow your removal spells. Because they just only have so many.

You'd think he'd be in Weenies for certain but thats actually where the three drop spot is a little crowded so I haven't tested him much there, oddly he fits really well in selesnya aggro which has many two drops but has rooms for more threes.

U/W handles him but then again that's what U/W is built to do. In selesnya I suppose I'd dump him for skylashers and mistcutters.

I ran a similar setup last night. This was the first control deck I've played but it was a nice jumping off point because its also an aggro burn deck. Guttersnipe just never got into play for me because I was playing 22 lands but Frostburn weird is a champ. He puts the breaks on aggro long enough for you to get your mana up and hand full of cards. Additionally the Chimera Rocks. because you don't have flashback any more he get big sooo quick. Really underrated card.

Augury sucks. At least it did for me. Jace just works better in that he's far more versatile. Why in gods name I wasn't playing turn//burn idk I forgot all about that card. Definitely maindecking that from now on.

Thought I should get another opinion or 2 before I embarrass myself on Friday. Here's a rough draft of what I've come up with so far:

I'd like to pick up another Young Pyromancer and drop a copy of the Weird, but my local shops are tapped out and 3 was the most I could get my hands on.

@Nafix. Good call on the Weird. I was pretty hesitant to drop the Electromancers since they ease the curve on your spells and beef up your X's for free, but the Weird is just plain better against aggro.

After seeing the weird in mono red over the weekend I like the idea of an izzet deck based around him. I think instead of Epic experiment I'm gonna run two thassas but thanks this definitely the closest build to what I want to play.

Mono black control is going to be a big thing no matter who says otherwise. And its going to be a real ***** to deal with.

Green Devotion with Nyela will see alot of play. It is without a doubt the easiest devotion trigger there is and there are already so many great green cards to use with it.

Post rotation Green is going to be retarded OP and it's that exact reason Mono Black and B/u are gonna be huge.

I know a few people in here want G/W to be a thing, I do too "WTF would they print Fleecemane lion????" and all that but I'm sorry its just not "in the cards". All your best hitters are early game and you only gots guildgate bros!

Same reason I'm probably gonna avoid rakdos until the first expansion.

Whats weird speaking of mono-black is that Brad and evan completely disregarded Dark Betrayal in the Set review saying its narrow garbage. I think their high. I think every black deck is going to run 2-3 sideboard for mirrors without exception.

Cackler is already in the list. And, even if it wasn't, Firedrinker is the last thing you'd want to drop for it.

Reckoner, while great, is not an AIR creature.

I'm with Khaos, drop Shock, Flames, and Madcap for 4 Foundry or Loyalist, 1 Phoenix, and 2 Mountain.

Sorry going blind in my old age

Try to think about about how you're gonna get to 20 damage for the walls come up.

Here is a quick itteration of a turbo red deck that i think looks solid enough to do some work in the early days of standard

maybe try to fit hammer of purphuros in there but at 18 lands 16 red sources i would be cautious with that.

Ditch the fire drinker for Rakdos cackler. Just my two cents. Kill gorehouse for boros Rekoner

Mono Green, Mono Red, G/r midrange, R/g aggro, B/U control.

White is kinda iffy. The cards dont seems to be coming together as well as I would like personally.

I'm comfortable saying this is what the competitive scene will be composed of. The G/W aggro got devastated but the loss of buddy lands and the lack of Scry lands for selesnya.

Another thing I piscianstradamus is Keyrunes being big for a bit. G/W and Rakdos.

I'm extremely sad no Rakdos scry land was printed. I really wanna to play Rakdos lately.

I realize some of this is just you guys wanting to be flavorful but I would at least sideboard judges familiar against control and mirror. It can be a pain to play around and would let you stick them for a few damage in the opening turns.

can someone explain why boon satyr is good? I mean sweet he has flash? He's a 4/2. I mean I guess hes a weird kill spell? He survives literally nothing.

I think the combo plan should definitely focus on the Evolve triggering. Also how about Vastwood Hydra? Seems like it would fit I agree Bident is for a different deck. I'm not seeing any synergy with it here. I actually still like the Kalonian Tusker seems like a 3/3 aint the worst way to get evolve triggers moving

    Some suggestions

    Skylasher
    Vorel of the Hull Clade
    Give // Take
    Simic Keyrune
    Nylea, God of the Hunt
    Thassa, God of the Sea

I think my complaint is that there's no consistent combo or win condition here you're just kinda grinding it out and hoping for the best.

Thassa I think at least really fits this deck. It needs scry to get consistent draws and unblockable to push through the big stuff other decks will eventually get out. Also you have Scavenging ooze but not a ton of removal. I spose you'll be eating some of your own creatures but I have mixed feeling on that. Spell ruptures ok but I'd like to mention Cy Cook who I believe is the only person to top 16 SCG with this archetype noted in his interview he sideboarded out spell rupture nearly every match. I'd rather have Rapid hybridization.

Oh also you should move closer to blue with all those blue turn 1 and turn 2 drops you have.

meh kind of a silly poll because you picked a rare thats great in draft and standard. Was not a hard choice...unless this is like a MTG Rorschach test?

I don't see it as being playable mostly because it isn't the kind of card I want to attack with frequently. The decks would consider this card are not aggressive, and often times sitting an blocking with a 3/5 flyer until you get a finisher is the right answer.

Now if it was like a Titan, where it trigger on EtB AND attacking, I would love it.

If it was a pay 1U or 2U to scry 3 I could see it but its just so darn board state dependent I'm just not seeing it.
