SSG, Soul-Scar Mage, Mentor, some hate bears in some flavor? How’s your meta looking? Are you looking to pick up the pace, slow the whole game down, or currently just try to go a little bigger than opponents?
A little more my style. With that many three drops i’d like to see some SSG or bringing back into the main deck some form of Walker for card advantage.
I’d kind of like to see how Legion’s Landing would do in your current shell. Brimaz and Rabble will go wide fast, and i’d be interested in wether you can do a few turn jumps to power down a turn 4/5 pair of 2-4 drops. Especially with SSG to have dropped Brimaz or Rabble turn 2 for a flipped Landing turn 3.
I’m still not a fan of Seeker in Modern but if it’s working, even if anecdotal...
I’d still make my usual suggesting on the lands. 1-2 Ghost Quarter and drop Foundry to 2-3.
Other than that I just have too much fear of you getting a board online and they wipe it right as you hit top deck mode and have no recourse but to flounder or try to hold up everybdraw until you can try to push even more than one spell at a time.
A League 5-0 doesn’t always translate to repeatable. MTGO meta is also notoriously both random and inbred at the same time. It seems to be following closer to the Amber’n’Taxes list that people are trying but attempting to go into red for more power. I’m still trying to get ahold of some more Moxen to test with but i’ve been side tracked trying to fill in some other multi format cards like the last 2 Masterpiece Painter’s (which I will be utilizing with said Moxen just to try some new stuff).
Mox like Vial is a very touchy tool. Both can empty your hand fast but leave you without gas and drawing multiples early can get clogged in the hand. The important thing to find is a pay off but I still feel Bedlham is just the extra top end pull needed. IDK I haven’t been able to play in so long i’m both rusty and had too much time brainstorming without the scientific method results to proof anything out. So SOOO many new variants to be able to branch into now too. Like Knights with GAoZ and such.
IDK I kind of just want to go back to Boros splashing Taxes and LD. Mox might let me do that depending on the suite of dudes and Walkers I run. I need Ajani the Angry Kitty back in my life flinging Boom//Bust’s and Lighting Helix’s!
Are you in a control heavy meta to need 4 Firecraft main? I would think Searing Blaze or such would work better right now? Have you tried 1-2 Bedlam Revelers yet? I’m flip flopping between 2-3 in the main... The only time you get sad-panda’d to draw one is when you already have one in hand.
Working on simply getting back to a working list. Both trying to assess what a working list looks like again, what’s needed in this meta, and what’s plausible for either giving a Taxes package for the main or the side. Also kind of want to try working Steppe Lynx back in. Haven’t gotten a solid idea of how Soul-Scar is. Might up my Flamejab up to 3. The Prowess roots of the last time I had what felt like a solid working list.
I’ve been playing a Devotion Deck with Karametra’s Acolyte and Umbral Mantel...I’m thinking Marwyn, the Nurturer May solidifi it.
I’ll post the updated list this evening after some testing.
It’s exciting to think of brewing. Even a 1 of since I play Leap combo. She could either become MASSIVE to attack or fling, or straight tap and add a ton of mana to either keep going with the combo chain or hardcast Emrakul or Craterhoof without having to sac your board at the same time. Being a Druid could be helpful if I try to retest Elvish Archdruid as a draw engine i’ve used in the past.
A quick question (partly to subscribe to this thread): Has anyone tried to use Aether Vial? I only ask because I feel like a) Instant speed creatures would help circumvent some of the problems we have, and b) it would help play out our threats faster.
Edit: Never mind. I played it tonight and it sucked.
Yeah, your dudes ARE your your Vials... You just open to a Vial taking the place of a G creature to trigger your untaps of your Nettles...
It’s fantastic, even if it only got sided in. It becomes extra copies if whatever your best sideboard card in the moment. Well it’s not quite a true tutor but I’ll take it! Only so many Cages or non-mainboard Walkers, Legendary anything... Saga? WHOLE mess of potentially good Sagas to reinforce the Pillowfort! How about some real fun being able to really fine tune knowing your can find things. I love 4 of lists but sometimes it becomes too rigid.
In the Twin days I would run Volcanic Fallout over Pyroclasm or Anger as it was uncounterable and able to help close out the last few points of damage in my Boros Midrange that ran a more Aggro package with board control elements. It might be time to sleeve them back up in any R shell looking to pressure Jace while keeping creatures in check also. I’ve always been a Boom//Bust fan and with even a singleton or pair of Ajani it helps play that heavy roll of suppressing mana developement and keeping heat from creatures off you. With Jace possibly looking to - threats off the board would it be a good time to test Goblin Dark Dwellers? They bounce it and just give you a chance to gain more card advantage again flinging Molten Rain’s in their face and redirecting to Jace. Chalice to lock out their counter Magic or Defense Grid to also lock things up?
Eh, any of the more aggressive lists I don’t thibk need to worry about Jace too much. Firecraft is a must though and this sort of thing is exactly why I have Flame Jab to peck away the last extra points off anything. Sudden Shock DOES have significant play in the Jund or other GBx decks. Gotta be able to hit that Scooooze!
Also correct on the fact of trying to jam 4 drops off 21 and under land bases that are also fetch heavy. You’ll hit 4 lands but probably after the point Chandra was gonna DO THE THING! Same reason I regularly back down or out my Ajani’s.
Sooooo... Jace... Make sure if you run sweeper spells Volcanic is probably top choice again. Basically i’d Suggest being ready to go back to Twin erra builds. Sleeve up those Exquisite Firecraft too!

Not remotely... Yes it protects your Walkers where Leyline won’t any more but being a creature is a liability. Also Leyline comes down turn zero...
