I've noticed Magus of the Moon increasing/has increased? Any ideas to why this is? Considering how much Lbolt is used, why would it suddenly increase. Most places are out of stock even.

Just kind of looks like a slow continued, expected, climb for a playable rare from this set (sees play in legacy as a 2 - 3 of in painter's stone). There are piles of them on tcgplayer. I am surprised by the disparity from regular version vs. foil which (to me) shows that this card should trend toward ~15 - 20$ over time. Blood mooon and similar effects are very good in commander for what it's worth.

Keep in mind that Magus of the Moon also sees play in legacy.

On that note Beta are up to 60 with only MP and HP ones left on tcgplayer (and the 1 LP copy at 59)

Judge promo is also up to ~$130 from $100 a few months ago, not a lot of copies floating around and 0 NM on TCG, looks like pimp bolts are becoming more desirable, ugh i should have got that set at $90/each...

Liliana of the Veil is an amazing PW, shes still played in modern and legacy, shes good in commander, her climbing is to be expected. Rotation didnt hit her hard and shes been on the slow climb since, if you didnt pick up your set when she was still $50 or less im not sure what you were expecting, it was fairly obvious she wasnt going to crash on rotation.

Liliana of the Veil went up to $70 at SCG today, $60 mid at TCG.
There goes my chance of playing modern and most probably my interest in paper MtG as a whole.

One card goes up and your response is "I QUIT PAPER MAGIC"? Seriously?

Silvergill Adept seems to be climbing, i picked up a set last week at $3/per and theyre up to ~$5.50 now for NM copies.

I don't see prophet and kiora as Modern playable cards. Kiora is unable to get herself out of bolt range on the turn she comes down, prophet is a 2/3 for 5, it's too slow and too easy to disrupt. Their prices will be guided by standard. There are currently better walkers to drop down than Kiora, if you want to play Gx you should look into a Naya Zoo list with Domri.

Really depends on how well Tron performs in the following months. I would think around $30 ish

Except that Tron isnt the only thing that is driving Grove's price. Grove's spike is also tied to the price spike of Dark Depths, both cards saw play in Lands which recently performed well. Grove is run in both Jund Depths and Lands to recur Punishing Fire which really hurts Delver decks, and Delver decks are fairly popular right now. With Modern season coming up I doubt the price of Grove is going to tank, especially if Jund Depths/Lands becomes a more common deck.

This may or may not be news, but CFB moved their buylist on Verdant Catacombs to 30 cash/39 credit

As modern season grows closer the fetches will all gain a decent amount of value as people look to build up their decks in preparation. If you don't have your set of fetches now you might not want to wait.

D&T is probably going to get even sillier than it already is.

Pick up your D&T staples now before they go up even further, because that's a seriously powerful ability and could actually have a real impact on the format.

Things like port are going to creep up until the end of time, Karakas might tick up a bit, vial might as well, foils have the most room for growth here.

The only thing really stopping port from going up higher and higher is a reprint, I can see port being a judge foil in the nearish future but I'm not sure if wiz wants port in standard, same with Karakas.

This happens around ban announcement time, BB gets bought out, BB stays banned, people cry to themselves, people sell/trade off their BBs.

Looks like Bitterblossom is getting bought up everywhere. Speculators strike again I guess?

This has been happening for the last few ban list updates, people think it has potential to be unbanned, then they buy it out, ban list comes out and its still banned, then places fill back up with bitterblossom, seems to have happened a bit earlier than the last few times though.

Has anyone noticed Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobiterising? Seriously thought she was $12 last time I checked.

She doesnt see a whole lot of play, might have more to do with casual or possibly even legacy. Shes a good target for reanimation (cripples Elves if you csan T1 pitch/reanimate her) and casual play (she can even be a commander if you wanted) loves making things bigger/your opponents things smaller.

The last deck i saw running her was Gifts and i havent seen a Gifts deck in a LOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.

As noted in modern gainers, grove of the burnwillows is on the rise. Was $25 for NM after last week's jund depth's win, and now Nm are $30, drying up, and rising past $30 on eBay/TCG/amazon.

This is to be expected once a deck comes out of the blue and takes away the cake (somebody bring me a chocolate cake, seriously, i will pay you) combined with the fact that a decently popular deck in modern also plays it (RG Tron), i feel this could go the same way as Horizon Canopy (as in, settling around $40) minus the giant buyout and spike. The FTV print is not nearly as cool looking to me as the FS print so i wouldnt be surprised if the FS print became a few bucks more expensive than the FTV print.

As for therapy, it seems to have already settled on $20 on retail sites. The foil copies (non-pack) are probably going to tick up a few bucks, and then the foil copies will tick up as well. Look at brainstorm, the FNM is $50, the pack foil is $150, sure not the best comparison but just because an FNM promo is out there doesnt mean that the pack foil price is going to be held in place. Personally i dont like how either the FNM or graveborn foils look, the pack foil is beautiful though.

Considering that Cabal Therapy is now a $20 card, where are the pack foils going? Theyre sitting at ~$30 right now and theres only 2 NM copies left on TCGplayer, i feel that there is room for some decent growth here, of course more so for the foreign versions.

I don't see how having your hobby pay for itself can be a bad thing. Poor comparisons aside, MtG is growing, more people want in on modern and the season is coming up. Speculators or not a number of these prices would have eventually gone up to meet the growing demand, and of the demand isn't there a number of people are going to get burned, not every spec target is a winner. I bought a number of jace, architect of thought to play standard when they were $8 and then a few to trade off when I believed they would peak. When Jace and others went up I said screw standard and traded my inflated standard cards into modern and legacy staples. From there I've been able to trade into more staples and expand my collection, it's worked for me so far, so I plan on speculating more, and why shouldn't I? Because somebody gets upset that I can expand my collection and have money to spend on my other hobbies as well?

To me it seems that the people who are upset at speculators are upset that the speculators can get their hobby to pay for itself but they can't .

I only play Legacy and I have a fairly good collection of all the staples. I can basically build any deck I need without too much trouble. So what does a Magic player do when he has all the cards they need? Well, they don't call it cardboard crack for nothing. I started to pimp my deck because it's fun to build a collection from the ground up. Everything looks so much prettier as well. You can't compare a white border, 4th Edition Swords to Plowshares to the foil FNM promo version. However, I understand that some people think it's an absolute waste of time/money. To each his own, I guess.

Things like the FNM promo StP, Judge Lightning Bolt, MPR Wasteland, those things are likely not going to be printed again (especially anything MPR), so theyre also a fairly safe investment should you decide that you no longer want them around.

So I've been looking to get into legacy for a while, and I'm just now getting around to buying wastelands. It looks like they've spiked again from the 60ish they were a few months again. Is this a permanent increase or do you guys think they'll come back down some?

Why would they come down? It's a heavily played card that has been out of print for a long time.
