Going to be taking this Mono-Red Aggro deck at my local FNM this week. Pretty comfortable with the MB but im still tinkering with my SB and looking for some critiquing. Not sure if I should include Skullcrack or Brimstone Volley over something else?
Hey guys first time creating a Mono-Red Aggro deck but have done A LOT of research. Will be taking the deck to a local tourney in a couple days and im looking for some critiquing or suggestions. Kept the lands low at 22 since im only running 1 4D. Removed Brimstone Volley completely due to having Searing Spear, Pillar, Firebrand and Motars. Sideboard is what im needing the most help with. Would like to fit a Skullcrack in my SB to help against lifegains but not sure what to remove. Open to anything. Thanks!
Unless you know that the vast majority of your MUs will be R based, I'd leave the Volcanic Strengths in the SB or at home.
Also, you need Boros Reckoner if you have access to them.
So, changes I'd make would be VS -> Brimstone Volley and Pyreheart -> Reckoner.
SB depends on what you think you'll be facing unless it's a completely unknown meta.
Ok cool changes made. So Boros kinda took over for Pyreheart as far as 3 drops go? I know it's new and in Gatecrash so I didn't read any info on it. I'll leave Volcanic Strength SB'd.
Hey guys first real post and first time creating a Mono-Red Aggro deck. Will be taking it to a local tourney in a couple days and im looking for some critiquing or suggestions. Kept the lands low at 22 since im only running 1 4D. Have heard good things about Volcanic Strength on MB but id like to know your opinions on it. Also need some help with my sideboard for this deck. Already know I want to include Mizzium Mortars, Brimstone Volley and Flames of the Firebrand. Open to anything else. Thanks!
Hey im interested in joining your group. Have been reading threads based on this theme for the past couple days now and want to start a Red or Red/Black Aggro deck. Have read soooo much info in the "Primer Aggro Red Deck Variants" thread and have enjoyed it. Just want to be able to post and get some feedback before taking my new deck to the local tourney and of course become part of future discussions. Look forward to being a member and contributing!
a heavy hitter is thundermaw hellkite, he costs a lot but it is really good. maybe you could use victim of night for your kill spel. i would not even SB rakdos, zealous conscripts could be a good SB and mabye MB depending on what decks run at your store. i do live in portland btw
Trying to decide between MB'n Tragic Slip or Victim of Night for the kill spell. Drawbacks to each but both are great. Could keep Victim of Night in and SB Tragic Slip unless I play a Vamp, Werewolf or Zombie deck.
*Updated Deck* Let me know what you guys think. Really want to add Legion Loyalist. Just seems like such a great 3 or 4 turn drop card. Just not sure how to incorporate it. Not sure if it's worth replacing Stromkirk Noble or not? Also what are peoples thoughts on the new Gatecrash instant Skullcrack?
i would take out hellhole for vampire nighthawks, yes theres friction between zealot and him but as long as you have one of your dual mana's, rakdos is bad, he will get killed by kill agro and counterd by control each time you try him. archwing is ok, i'd SB them. as for mizzium, take it out it's only good for tokens. (i don't see anymore token decks) add a dreadbore and possbly another kill spell depending on what decks run in your area
That's funny I actually live in Portland, OR like you (or so your info says). Well if I SB Rakdos and Archwing I feel like I really have no "heavy hitters". Hardest hitting creature would be Hellhole at +4 if I unleash. Maybe "heavy hitters" aren't needed in Aggro decks? Any suggestions of what I could substitute Rakdos for or if I even should? Anyway replaced Mizzium with Pillar of Flame. As for adding another kill card only one I can find is Ultimate Price and im not sure how well that does in standard play.
Thanks for the advice. Im pretty solid on wanting Rakdos Cacklers but is there another 1 drop card that is comparable or as good as the Stromkirk Nobles? Or should I stick with these guys?
This is my first Aggro deck build and I wanted to share it to get some feedback and see how it looks. Going for heavy Red with a splash of Black. I don't have a sideboard as of yet but am open for suggestions. Decided to go with Archwing Dragon over Hellrider due to the better base stat's, end step and Flying. Let me know what you guys think of that. Also not sure if I should stick with Mizzium Mortars or put in Pillar of Flame.
