Burn isn't a bad choice. It needs shocks, fetches, and Deathrite Shaman, which are expensive, but are also staples in a number of other decks.
Everything beyond that is fairly inexpensive.

Just because they're pushing modern doesn't mean that they can't support legacy. Its not in WotC's interests to let both eternal formats effectively die (because in terms of support from WotC, vintage pretty much has) because it means that basically the first 10 years of magic has been consigned to the void.

And what financial impact would it have on WotC if the first 10 years of of magic went into the void? How much money did they make last year selling packs of Legends or Urza's Saga?

There are currently two viable non-rotating formats, Modern and Legacy.
All cards from Modern can be reprinted in money-making sets like Modern Masters.
    WotC is pushing Modern.
How is it in their interest to support Legacy?

I was wondering about Cavern of Souls myself - many posts and misc internet snips claim that its worthless in legacy outside of goblins. I'm not sure where its played in modern (Faeries?)

Cavern has a huge casual appeal. That's going to help it a lot. Look at Doubling Season

In which eternal formats? Certainly not Types 1 or 1.5.

    Modern.

I think most of the price rise of type 2 lands post rotation is due to people switching decks and needing the new lands, thus increasing demand. We also can't forget about modern season in the winter.

WHat is our opinion on the value of foils and original set printings?

I think he knew the answer was Modern.
A lot of people like to point out the fact that Modern is not "eternal", it's only considered "non-rotating".

Modern is booming at my LGS, thanks to Modern Masters.

For the first time last week, the standard players were told there wasn't enough to run their event, but they could join the Modern event if they wanted because we had more than enough.

However, I must add that my store may be the ones the "blame" for this.
Standard constructed is $5 and prize packs can be picked from RTR, GTC, or DGM.
Modern constructed is also $5 but prize packs are MM for the month of June.
Winner doesn't get a ton of packs, but that's because everyone gets at least one pack.

Im buying for trade fodder, not specifically for one deck.

You are better off buying singles for trade fodder as well.
Spend $100 on trade fodder singles and you will end up with $100 worth of cards to trade.
Spend $100 on a box and you will end up with less than $100 in trade value.

Drafting is the way to get trade fodder. With prize packs factored in, I'd say I end up paying $15 for average of 5 to 6 packs when I draft. On top of that, I am drafting to play and have fun. Getting trade fodder is a bonus.

But to answer your question, go with Return to Ravnica.
The five shock lands are always strong pulls. Easy to trade.
Sphinx's Rev, Angel of Serenity, and Jace are all decent money mythics.
Abrupt Decay and Deathrite Shaman are multi-format staples.

GTC wouldn't be a bad choice either.
The five shocks seem to have a slightly higher value than the RTR shocks, but there aren't as many great pulls outside of the shocks.

DGM would be the worst to buy, imo. Yes, you can still get shocks, but they are half as common as they would be in the other two sets. All of the value is currently concentrated on one card (Voice)

It's completely selfish, gross, and inconsiderate to ban and ostracize someone who has done nothing wrong.

Doing nothing illegal is not the same as doing nothing wrong.
"Wrong" is in the eye of the beholder.

    I would pass the Goyf.
That said, it's $100. If some other player didn't pass it, I wouldn't agree with their choice, but I'd understand it.

So far with what's been spoiled I feel the value is there but the playables are mostly not. There are so many rares/mythics that don't/have never seen play that I can't help but question why they even named it "modern masters".

Sure, value is fine, but... I thought this was to help the format. Confused.

PTE, Cryptic, Pestermite, Spell Snare, Clique, Bob, Blood Moon, Kiki-Jiki, Goyf, Lightning Helix, Knight of the Reliquary, Kitchen Finks, Aether Vial, Ravager, Relic of Progenitus, Vedelkan Shackles, and Glimmervoid.

All 17 of these cards saw play in MY personal matches when I went to the Modern PTQ back in March. 17 cards. Out of 72 currently spoiled. That's 23.6% of the currently confirmed cards in the set.

There are entire blocks that don't have 17 total playable cards for Modern. This is one set. I think it's looking just fine.

He may or may not be very good, but I think Ebay has seen a small price spike recently. He is pulling at least $6 each now.

A lot of his price has to do with Modern. He is much better in that format where RDW is much faster and can really capitalize on the opponent taking 4 to the dome.

Being a bad topdeck in the late game doesn't matter. RDW aims to win by turn 4 in that format.

    1) Bolt - Obvious

    2) DRS - Mana dork, Lavamancer, Lifegain, and GY hate for one mana is crazy.

    3) Snapcaster - Enables both versions of UWr.

4 and 5) Splinter Twin/Kiki-Jiki. I wish they weren't this high, but with the banning of eggs, these cards are represent an entire third of the aggro-control-combo dynamic. If there were other options for combo, I'd probably put Path to Exile and the Fetches here.

it is not the ban itself, it's the message. You can't play creatureless combo/decks?, and you cant play a deck that wins a couple of tournaments without fear of a ban

and nothing is unbanned, and that is even worse

    1) Scapeshift is nearly creatureless. The creatures that it does play are not really meant to be turned sideways. Check it out.

    2) I play Affinity, RDW, and Junk in Modern. All of them have won a couple tournaments. None of them have fear of a ban.
And there is a reason we all knew an Eggs ban was coming. At the onset of the formant, Wizards set out to ban cards that caused an issue with the length of time added to rounds (see: Sensei's Divining Top. The Eggs deck was clearly in violation of this standard. The ban had nothing to do with the deck's success level. It was a time issue. The writing was on the wall.

    3) I agree with your last point. Some unbans would have been nice.

If they give us the fetches, wasteland better be right behind.

I don't think that would happen...but I really wish it would. I would love to see wasteland in modern.

Mana bases have gotten so greedy that even traditional mono colored decks like RDW are running a minimum of two colors and have some players experimenting with three.

We probably won't see a reprint in MM...

You don't need to say "probably". It has already been confirmed that the Fetches will not be in Modern Masters.

"Cards are reprints from Eighth Edition through Alara Reborn"

Note that allied fetches were in Onslaught and enemy fetches were in Zendikar. Neither of those sets fall in the "Eighth Edition through Alara Reborn" range.

I run 4 x Inquisition of Kozilek and 2 x Thoughtseize. 4 x Goyf seems to be an auto for any iteration trying to be competitive at the top tier. Hence I agree, and would go the Goyfs. However if you have the time/ patience maybe try ur hand at some Modern Masters drafts and try and pick up Goyfs when that comes out.

Yeah, I plan to draft as much MM as I can, but if I snag even one goyf from those drafts, I'd be more than happy. I'm usually not that lucky.

Thanks for the help guys, I was leaning goyf anyway, you made my decision easy.
