I recently stumbled across this thread after making one of these decks myself! I really enjoy the land destruction concept in today's Standard format. Because so many decks rely on a wider range of colors, strategic land destruction can be pretty crippling to many decks out there. Here's what I've been running on MTGO (with fairly decent success - I'm sure everyone hates me):
The ideal situation is T1 Arbor Elf, T2 Elvish Archdruid, T3 Acidic Slime/Elvish Archdruid, T4/T5 Sylvan Primordial.
There're a couple of things going for the deck:
1. Elvish Archdruid can give you a pretty solid Elvish Army. I've won some games without ever using land destruction at all.
2. Sylvan Primordial winning is pretty straight forward. There're very few creatures that can handle a 6/8. There are even fewer that can deal 8 damage and even less fliers that can survive 6.
3. Silklash Spider is highly effective against the occasional Delver Deck or Descration Demon deck.
4. Acidic Slime is a solid deterrent against big creature attacks. It's an excellent staller.
5. Most people don't see this deck often, so they're never really sure what exactly to remove or counter.
A few notes about the deck's weaknesses:
1. This deck is fairly susceptible to creature removal and wipes. Fortunately, there are a lot of creatures in the deck to rely on. The goal is to remove lands before wipes become a reality. I'm a fan of killing white dual lands when I see Islands/Plains.
2. Token decks can be a challenge without Rancor to push damage through.
3. Mulligan if you're not seeing ramp up early. You can get away without the Land Destruction early on, but it's mostly a lost game if there's no ramp up.
Other loose notes:
- If you're playing against control, hold a Bramblecrush (or Slime) to knock out a Detention Sphere or O-Ring.
- I haven't figured out an appropriate sideboard yet, but I suspect Giant Growth and Wildwood Rebirth would be pretty helpful.
- I like Elvish Visionary because it's a draw card option along with being a card that will grow with Elvish Archdruid out.
- I'm not sure I like Wolfir Avenger in the deck. He has fairly poor synergy, but he can be quite an effective chump blocker with regenerate.
