hey all, after taking a break from playing Lantern, by trying out different decks, planning on taking it to tournaments in the near future.

When I last used the deck, BGx was the go-to configuration but since then the Whir list has surged in popularity and preference. While I'm saving up to get the necessary pieces to try out the Whir list (waiting for Mishra's Bauble price to drop), I will rock the BGx list.

Trying to fix my list, I'm looking at crexalbo's and skitzafreaks BGx list to see any recent changes, but I was wondering if anybody has other BGx decklists that I can refer to? MTGTop8 has mostly the Whir list when looking at Lantern.

Had one more card altered, worthy one since it's the first thing in my end when I saw the card name for the first time.

Commissioned artwork that I had done for my Lanterns. Love it.

@Vocquat: If the answer to your question ends up being *yes*, then would you agree that, at the end of the day, blind self-milling is more of a personal preference since, as one user pointed out with Economics terms, the assumption of an advantage/disadvantage is a psychological construct?

@shadowgripper: Because I need all the options I can get against Tron variants (and to a lesser extent, Titan and Scapeshift decks) when it comes to the land denial gameplan.

In other matchups, I've always liked a way to force the opponent to shuffle their library (yes I know they have the choice not to, but I like to take advantage of people not realizing that trollface )

I feel like I should contribute a bit to the mill/ non-mill debate. I have made up a rule for myself, that isn't based on numbers but on the feeling for the situation:

    - You should mill yourself blindly only if you have a way and the time to regain what you have milled.

We may have the tools like Shredder or Ruins to get cards back from the graveyard, but often we either don't have the mana or the time to get them back when we need them. If I need a bridge I won't mill myself if I only have 1-2 turns to live. Smaller trinkets like a needle may be possible to get in time but often not the bridge. The possibility of drawing Ancient Stirrings also emphasises a non-mill startegy.

This times a BAJILLION. For all the debate about blind self milling, it all depends on the game/board state you are currently in. The ONLY time I'll blind self mill is if I'm staring at a board state where I'll die next turn if I don't have an Ensnaring Bridge.

Congratulations on the GP win Oks. I found it extremely fitting your shirt choice for the event. trollface I want to get a Bray Wyatt shirt that I can wear in the next major event I join (because Lantern, etc.)

Would you recommend, going down to 3 main deck brutality then?

I still love the set of Brutality on the mainboard, it just so happened that it wasn't that useful whenever I drew it because my matches weren't traditional aggro, where the card shines. I still love it against Ad Nauseum decks but I would remove 1 or 2 to put in other sideboard options.

While I really like the list of @warwizard87, the sad reality of that event was, while the 4x Collective Brutality was a good call if you are expecting a ton of aggro, I didn't match up with any of the big 3 aggro decks. Because I this, I had to take out 1-2 of the 4 Brutalities during sideboarding most of the event.

@blueX49er: It can really be a tough matchup. Game 1 is actually pretty easy (Bridge early, needle on Engineered Explosives) but sometimes they can have a pretty good hand and kill us early, similar to how Infect game 1 goes. Post-sideboard, put in your artifact/enchantment removal, Battle of the Bridge does wonders delaying a turn by taking out a fatty and gaining life. If you are having trouble with Thought-Knot Seer, Leyline of Sanctity is your best answer as it can also prevent them from doing Eldrazi Displacer shenanigans to attack through Ensnaring Bridge (the draw effect on Seer is target opponent). Against Noble Hierarch, Collective Brutality, Pyroclasm and damage win conditions such as Pyrite Spellbomb and Ghirapur Aether Grid works

So last Sunday, I went to a major tourney using a modified version warwizard's list from post#7610 because I was intrigued with the card choices. The differences are:

    - No Crucible of Worlds
    - Because of the above, I went 17 lands
    - 4-4-2 split of millrocks (Codex-Bells-Pyxis)
    - Traded 1 Abrupt Decay for 1 Lost Legacy due to meta call (was expecting combo/Tron)

I finished 3 wins (Restore Balance, Bant Eldrazi, Mono-Red Blood Moon) 2 losses (Grixis Delver, BW Tokens) and 1 draw (Eldrazi Tron). No extensive tourney report but I wanted to shout-out Battle at the Bridge. Was able to have that card show up during the Grixis Delver and Eldrazi Tron matches even though I lost and drew on them respectively. Being able to kill a Gurmag Angler or Oblivion Sower with little land count and then gaining a tempo swing due to life is pretty satisfying. I would also be siding this against Burn since having X = 3 will not trigger Eidolon damage. I will do more testing on this card but I currently love this card.

I like how colorless EDH decks now have a Splinter Twin-esque 1-card combo win if they have Basalt Monolith + Rings of Brighthearth (or any way to generate infinite generic mana)

To add to the top card ruling, since it happened to me in a recent major tourney I participated:

    Scenario:
    Lantern of Insight in play.
Opponent casts Ad Nauseum with Phyrexian Unlife on the board.
With Ad Nauseum on the stack, I cast Abrupt Decay, targeting the Phyrexian Unlife

While Ad Nauseum is resolving, the opponent can see the top card of the library before deciding whether to continue putting said card into their hand and lose life or not.

Glint-Nest Cranes can be pretty good against the mirror match. I say this because how I would sideboard is to remove the Bridges entirely.

In one PPTQ I joined (didn't make a tourney report), I fought against the mirror during swiss. My sideboarding plan consisted of:
    - Remove all Ensnaring Bridges
    - Remove all but one Lantern of Insight
    - Put in all the P:ithing Needles, extraction effects and artifact hate

For the record, I can't take credit for the idea of siding out discard vs Jund. I agree that siding out all discard is likely irrational, but siding out discard first for relevant top decks appears to be correct. I wouldn't suggest siding out cards for cards in our sideboard that do absolutely nothing in a matchup. I think my wording was a bit too open to interpretation there, which is my fault. But it does seem that Mike Maz was really on to something with the realization that excessive discard hurts us in the Jund matchup. Congrats on your top 8!

I guess to add to the Jund sideboarding plan, personally, I would take out my Thoughtseizes and keep IoK and Collective Brutality (Confidant, Ooze in certain situations). IoK is still important in taking out an Abrupt Decay that they have in their opening and Brutality as your way off removing Shatterstorm from their hand.
