So I take it retailers like Wal-'Marks' and Target won't get this even though they usually get all of the other expansions and Duel Decks etc...?

Well, it costs only 6 ticks, I think it's worth one play even if you're not confident about winning.

You are correct, but I literally can't even figure out how to complete a turn on there and I've been trying to learn for 2 months.

All I have is the batch of awful commons and intro pack I got when I donated my $10.00 and downloaded the software.

It hurts my brain even looking at it. Slant

Oh. Meh. I guess it could be fun. But I haven't even figured out the 'simple' turn mechanics yet online so I'll watch from the sidelines

stupid "noob" question here: Do you keep the cards in these packs as well?
Are they "special edition" or will they go to your library to be used however you see fit afterwards?

    Boros,

Welcome to MTGO. I've been playing Online since 2009 (after I got hooked on Duels of the Planeswalker for XBOX). It's been a while, so I forgot how steep the learning curve is...i.e. the UI is not very user-friendly.

With that being said, I have zero regrets about signing up for MTGO. I play almost every day (usually just for fun). My in-game name is the same as my forum name: Lafave. If you want to add me to your buddies list, I would be happy to help you through the basics of building a deck, setting up games, using the bots, etc.

I live in the US, and I'm usually on between 4pm and 7pm (EST). Hope to hear from you soon. Good luck and have fun!

So helpfull. I most definitely will add you Grin
It may be in a couple of days as I work crazy crazy hours. But I'm looking forward to it. Thanks again. THis has been a very helpful community...for the most part:p

The Pearl looks good to me , the back of the recall has me concerned. But I am not a pro by any means. Just collect the older MTG cards from Unlimited so I've seen quite a few

Thanks to everyone for their willingness to reply and help.
I am still just as confused as day 1 as I am a little "slower".
However, I am daily watching videos and clicking links on here and MTGO Academy ..but every link leads to 5 or 6 more links which leads to 7 or 8 links..and by that time I'm reevaluating my life Smile
I'll keep clicking and trying to learn

To put it simply now... I am as confused as I have ever been. I finally figured out how to view the C/UC cards they gave me an my intro pack but I have no clue how to make those into a deck and I dont understand that black server when trying to play a game...
Why is there no tutorial from WOC on there for new ppl who sign up .. Talk about flying blind. I had to keep the FAQ sticky from here opened the entire time just to try to figure out what I was looking at, but even then it doesnt really walk you through in a logical order.
    Very confusing.
I'll try to figure it out though....

Hey Boros, Glad to see you on and getting back into the game. I was in your position about a year ago. I wanted to play but playing FNM's are hard when you work in the restaurant industry. So I started an MTGO account. It's been wonderful so far. You really can play when ever you want, especially if you have the money. I have personally found Pauper to be my "go to" format online. For about $30.00 you can have a competitive deck that can fire in 2 daily pauper tournaments for $6.00(tix) each. Also there are 2-man queue's if you want a quick match for $2.00. Payday no where near close? You can find a game in the "just for fun" or "tournament practice" rooms for free.
With the current payouts, if you place 3-1 in 1/3 of the pauper events you join, then you will be in the money.

Also, Standard is seeing quite the showing from our friend the color "Red". If you have $75.00 you can put together a reasonable Red-Deck-Wins and try your hand at standard. I've seen a $35.00 list go 3-1 in the Daily Events.

Grab your account and play with the planewalker decks that come with it until you are familiar with the program (like 4hrs time maybe)

One last thing, to re-iterate what an above poster mentioned. The level of competition goes up drastically when the payouts get higher. If you draft, stick to the swiss drafts if you want to have fun or until you have a solid draft strategy.

Gives me confidence about singing up a little while ago Smile
THanks a lot for relating our experience. I have heard it's a mixed back when opening up the planeswalker packs as they get 'mixed in' with your regular cards and can be a pain to sort or something? Just want to make sure I don't mess up right off the bat.
Unfortunately, my work pc was able to download everything quite well and allowed me to sign up and to buy my starter kit..butttt once they had my money..firewall kicked in and it won't connect to the server Slant
Gotta try to download it on my laptop at home

Server behind the times? How? OMG

The grahics are kind of functional, but it's a cardgame afterall and no shooter :p
Sinking ship? WotC stated that 60% of their income is generated through MTGO so MTGO seems to be doing fine :p

    :p

I based my info on internet chatter..which, as you know, is always factual and gospel Grin

Glad to hear that it isn't dying or 'behind the times'.
There are so many links to click in the stickies above about getting started

These F stops and setting stops and even knowing what the heck a 'stop' is is confusing the fire out of me..I have no clue how to translate half this stuff

Just getting back to the hobby and have spent the month being 'back' on this site and others researching a deck to build and re-learning the new rules and formats.
However, "real life" prevents me from playnig paper magic too much..in fact I haven't yet..since 1999 as a matter of fact, because I don't know anyone that plays personally and I can't go on Fridays to FNM at the local shops.
If I open an account online are there enough 'beginners' or at least 'intermediates' on there at any given time that will play ..or can I just expect to get lashed and throttled until i dish out big bucks on something I will never actually hold in my physical hands?

Also the graphics and server seem..well..behind the times to be honest.is this a sinking ship?

    Thanks all..

Let's keep this focused on Boros Reckoner .

    I agree Grin

It seems like it has gone down just a little on the 'bay the last 48 hours. I sold 2 of them for 39.99 on Wednesday. I'm holding on to my play set for now though as I just love the card.

I really want to run Boros Charm with it as I believe it makes it even 'nastier'.
What other White could be put into an Agro deck so I'm not just putting plains or R/W shocks in the deck just for 4 b. charms,,,
Is Frontline Medic still a popular choice

edit: hot dog..I finally figured out how to wrap/insert card into the text...whew

How about some of the greats from Fallen Empires such as...
    uh

    ermm.

    uhhh Merfolk?
    Haha
THose were the days...they couldn't GIVE away boxes of FE. You'd be hard pressed to sell one at 35-40 dollars.

As far as 2014, I'm just now getting back in so I wouldn't know any of the more recent blocks..but I wouldn't mind seeing some of the goodness I missed in Lorwyn or WorldWake etc, though I'm not sure how that would flow with the current story line

I'm hesitant to respond here as I'm afraid I have missed a 'Read Before Posting' sticky on this sub forum.
I am new to the forum and returning to the game for the first time since 1999 which may as well have been a century ago in terms of gameplay and the structure of the hobby now.
This site and the members have been so VERY VERY helpful in welcoming me back and answering questions.
I have received a handful of infractions right off the bat for posting in the wrong sub forum, posting something that got labeled as Spam? and then Got another infraction for apologizing for the aforementioned post which I didn't know was spam by editing that post to remove it since it was, for some reason, considered spam.

ALL THAT SAID, the moderators have all taken the time to PM me back each time I have responded to their warnings and have all been very fair and understanding.

I don't blame THEM one bit, it just seems to me that the rule structures and rules are so confusing as they vary from sub forum to sub forum and the amount of stickies to be read per sub forum has been overwhelming when wanting to post.

I'm loving this community and the wealth of goodness contained within it but, again, the rules and required culture can be convoluted at best to a brand new community member.
    Thanks
    -BR
